Thanks for all the suggestions and help everyone!! :D I've got a few options to try now... I believe the ones I was thinking about was indeed the ones that lay on the edge of the shelf, does anyone have a link to that one or know who does them?
Thanks for the offer Leo Walker, much...
I seem to recall that there was a company or person in the UK that made personalised horse models/figurines specific to your own horse, generally the horse was lying down I think? I can't remember what material it was made out of but it wasn't stone or anything like that, more like soft material...
My average from winter and summer, for 2 horses is about £500 a month, but a lot cheaper in summer in many ways in summer as they are out 24/7, however we hire a trailer and go out a lot in summer so not that much cheaper!!
Yes and having spoken to a barefoot trimmer he seems to agree that the vet is right in saying that it could be laminitis and is quite likely to be, but more due to the trim than any other factor. Box rest is for 2 weeks with bute every day. The vet said that if no improvement then will go...
He has only had one barefoot trim so far, which is the one that straight after, we had all these problems. To be honest I couldn't tell you whether he had trimmed his soles or not, I was not able to be there when he was trimmed so had my friend there instead but she did say she wasn't with him...
Do you know how the vet would know for certain if he has laminitis? I know that being barefoot wouldn't stop him getting laminitis and he should be rested, but whether that can actually involve turnout, although vet has advised against it.
Just don't know what to do as it doesn't look like...
This may sound like a stupid question but I just don't know the answer - What or how can the vet absolutely say he has laminitis? In the sense of, how they can say for absolute certain that's what it is, how do they decide this instead of suggesting it is something different?
I would prefer to...
Do you think or know of people that have barefoot horses that have farriers who do a good job of making sure the horse has the correct trim and management advice? I'm not sure whether I should think about seeing if I should find a barefoot trimmer to do him.
Yes I was thinking it is probably more likely something to do with the trim as afterwards he did look quite boxy and short in front, and of course had no problems before the trim..but obviously difficult to know what to do with the vet saying it's because he is barefoot and should definitely...
Thanks for the links I will have a look at those and ask on FB and the laminitis page to see if they can offer any further advice. Not sure metabolic wise, he hasn't had any other problem previously..
He has bounding pulses, more in the main right front foot but strong pulses in both anyway...
My pony has been confirmed as having stress/concussive laminitis, which the vet says has been caused by him going barefoot (from front shoes only). He now has major bruising on his soles which he was walking on, and after box rest will need xrays as she thinks there could be pedal bone rotation...
Ours are having a duvet day today... didn't want to risk our lot getting injured from running about/tree branches/fencing coming down.. plus trying to turn out and bring in! Ponies aren't bothered, quite happy in the warm and dry!
Even if it is a well known Charles Owen fault, I would definitely be getting a new hat! Also, it is always a good excuse to visit the local tack shop..
My new youngster has just arrived yesterday, she is only 20 months, so will spend a little bit of time Sat & Sun to get to know her :D Other ridden pony is currently not able to be ridden as he has bruised soles so will be having a little pamper session I think to make sure he is not left out!
