Decision between fusing hocks or stem cell treatment - experiences?

I have a pony who had a surgical fusion in one hock in Summer 2019 (due to injury he had pretty severe arthritis in the hock - injections didn’t help) he was around 14 at the time. He was on box rest for around a month, then box rest with hand walking for a couple of weeks then small paddock...

    Hollows above eyes squishy?

This might be a silly question but are smaller native types less likely to have defined eye sockets? My pair of 13h native ponies both have puffy eye sockets currently when there heads are down grazing, less puffy when there heads are up (watching them like a hawk also!) both diagnosed with EMS...

    Feeding Ertugliflozin

Both my ponies had a course of it last year - my 12hh Welsh was on 3ml per day and my 13hh chunky cob type was on 4ml per day. After around 6-8weeks they both were dropped down a ml (after new set of blood tests) then eventually stopped once insulin levels came back normal. I had the 100ml...

    Ertugliflozin Paste

I brought syringes from Amazon (5ml) and metal blunt syringe tips that twist/lock into place (think they are usually used for ink or arty stuff!) Works a treat! ☺️

    Ertugliflozin and EMS

My mare suffered no side effects (apart from being a bit wetter in the stable). Insulin levels were down within two weeks, no longer has a crest and looks much better. I pay £44 per tube, which lasts 2-3 weeks (she’s on 2ml per day)

    EMS & Cushings HELP!!!

My mare has EMS (recently diagnosed) & cushings, she has been on Ertugliflozin for around 6 weeks. Her insulin levels went down to near normal levels after 2 weeks so certainly did the job 🙂 her crest has gone and has lost weight (although wasn’t over weight to begin with but did have a...

    Tooth extraction

Last year my pony had to go to the vets to have 2 x fractured/infected canines removed The EDT noticed it first, I then had the dental expert from my vets come check it out and X-ray. The canines were too difficult to remove at home so had to be done at there practice, took a good few hours as...

Making a decision to PTS when it's not clear cut

I’m in a fairly similar situation, my late twenties mare has Cushings and also found she had EMS last year after a lami episode. She’s also got severe separation anxiety with my other ridden pony, to the point where I can’t hack him out or take him anywhere. If she is on box rest then he has to...

    Lame and injecting hocks

My pony had his hock surgically fused in 2019 - i think it is still a current procedure, but doesn't seem to be very common

    Mctimoney versus physio

I also wondered this, i have an Osteo for my boy every 4-5 Months but have wondered if thats the right choice. Also there's massage therapists, i tend to do a yearly visit for that. I'm not sure if they are more muscular though?

    URGENTLY SEEKING RECOMMENDED GRAZING MUZZLE

I use dinky rugs muzzles for my ponies, never had any rubbing issues with them (unlike shires which rubbed one of my ponies raw after one night!) I make a loop in there mane/forelock to stop them getting it off

Hock arthritis help - steroids, ethanol or other options

My boy had a surgical hock fusion op done in 2019 for his arthritis (left hind). We did try osphos injection first however it was unsuccessful. He has been back in work for around a year now and so far so good *touch wood* . I am always careful with him and don’t over do it. He is sound enough...

    VIP pads

I tried a brown one not so long ago. Liked the concept behind it but made no difference to my boy. its not supposed to adjust the fit on the saddle but I’m sure it made my saddle fit a bit oddly when using it. Also wasn’t too keen on how it bunches up in the middle, I did message VIP to see if...

Pony, Cob and Horse Saddles - anyone?

I have the Pendle working hunter for my chunky pony (He’s XW/XXW). Had it for approx 2 years and brought it second hand. I love it, it’s very comfy! It hasn’t got big knee blocks but that’s what I prefer. We have done a bit of everything in it.
