Boots Advice (Dalmar v Premier Equine)

I've used Prem Eq. Found they rubbed my boy's fetlock a tiny bit, not to make him sore but enough to ruffle the hair so didn't suit me for everyday use. But I really like the length of them, I find a lot of boots come-up on the short side for a fine-boned tb (NEW were too short), but PE really...

Unsolicited advice...how to deal with it

Rollkur is unnatural and inhibits the horse's correct use of it's spine. But you don't need me to tell you that I'm sure! I feel so lucky having my horse in a yard full of grown-ups....

Recommend me a winter yard/riding jacket...

Then, on another post here I re-engaged my brain and remembered about all in one ski suits (the modern ones, not the 80s fluoro jobs!) - you can get them for £30 - Trespass, and fully waterproof :D I was bidding for ski all-in-ones on ebay last year! Thought everyone in the yard would think...

what would you expect to pay for this!

Ummm, don't think I can afford it....

Recommend me a winter yard/riding jacket...

Thank you all for the advice! Keep the ideas / recommendations coming! Will def check out Musto - I have their summer show jacket which is a lovely (dare I say feminine?!) fit and has washed really well ie stayed waterproof! I have a ski jacket, but I find it too warm and a bit on the bulky...

    Simple Systems/ Pure feeds-experiences, good +bad please!

Yes - grass is 80% water apparently, so you soak the nuts / pellets / pencils to rehydrate.

    Lungeing?

You can use side-reins (I like elastic to the bits rings, but we're all different) and then get a stretchy bandage and tie it to the roller in a loop. Once your horse is warmed-up pull the loop down over his bottom to encourage him to engage behind. I don't need to do this with my horse, but...

    Simple Systems/ Pure feeds-experiences, good +bad please!

PS - re grass nuts, I spoke to Deb at Thunderbrook this week re. feeding for weight gain in case my lad loses weight over winter. She says best thing is to increase forage but if your horse is already eating as much hay as he can manage (like mine is) one of the things she suggested is grass...

    Simple Systems/ Pure feeds-experiences, good +bad please!

Ummm, without wanting to confuse the issue, have you considered Thunderbrook? Suits my TB, and my friends' horse who has history of ulcers. Warped my mind for a bit - I went from feeding tons of muesli & alfalfa to 'dust' as my hubby puts it... The Thunderbrook base mix looks expensive...

Recommend me a winter yard/riding jacket...

... that will keep out wind, rain and cold, not make me look like a michelin man, and that costs less than than the average horse! Can it be done? I like the look of the Mountain Horse Winnipeg jacket, but I need some seriously good reviews before I shell out that much. Over to you...

    Advice about behaviour at shows

PS - I have no help either, but he seems to understand that we're in it together. He's an angel now, except with dressage boards, hey ho! Teach him how he should behave, and praise him when he's good, but be patient and don't get cross at minor things while he gets used to the party atmosphere.

    Advice about behaviour at shows

Enjoy it. Relax. Have fun. Don't worry about the little stuff, he'll improve! Everyone knows my horse very well - because for about the first two years I couldn't leave him tied to a trailer so he came everywhere with me and someone would have to hold him if I needed a wee! But they do learn...

    Advice about behaviour at shows

Parties are exciting! How experienced is your horse? If he's fairly experienced but gets bolshy at shows then I wouldn't stand for it, but if he's young or green, then keep it fun. Praise him for being good and don't get wound-up - it'll only make him anxious.

    Supplement for maintenance of ulcers??

A yard-friend has just gone through all this with her horse. Talk to Debbie at Thunderbrook for long-term gut health. It's what I feed my gut-compromised ex-racehorse and my friend's horse is doing well on it too. Debbie makes a 'Gut Restore' product which I feed twice daily (my friends horse...

livery yard pettiness this one will amaze you

I think she needs to grow up and apologise. You are a paying client and personally I think you've put up with a lot already in the name of 'fun'.
