2 horses...

Do you vaccinate your horse?

That grey does not have the scope for affiliated tracks at 1.10m+ - with the lead issue it should really be ruled out, imo

The dun is a nice horse but not you. Keep looking

Feel free to ignore and I haven't read any of the other comments but I don't really like either of them - sorry

My reason is they both look more all rounders than serious sjers and look like the type that would help a junior coming off ponies to do a bit of everything. If I owned them I could see me getting bored with either of them quickly, but I do own a quirky mare

I just don't think either fit what you are looking for. Although they both look like they would hunt ok

I'd go for the grey - she looks genuine. I think she would be easy to sell on if things didn't work out too. Though it doesn't sound as though you have that 'got to have her' feeling? Really hope you find one soon!

I think you look more at home on the Dun, the grey looked a little sticky and not as scopey.

You don't have to have either though you could wait.

All v interesting, i'm enjoying this! Regarding the grey's problems in canter in my experience from a professional view point this would concern me, horses i've treated that won't canter on a certain lead/disunite in 90% of cases had an underlying cause, one in particular i remember i refered to the vet had spavins. Do you know a good back person who could go with you? I often check horses a SJer has on trial and we discuss any ridden problems and if i feel explainable cause from what i find when palpating spine pelvis etc.

Thing is, like all things in life, you have £1 to spend and everything you want is £5! I want a class horse for less than £7k and I cannot find it. It has to be a big 16.2hh or over and it cannot be highly strung, it MUST tolerate days off. MUST hack alone as I hack to my school and it MUST have competed as this was the downfall with P, took me a while to stop her getting so stage struck when out. I know what I want, believe me, but maybe I just look in the wrong places?!

You want Dan the unbroken version of course, well he not broken anymore but he can't jump, well no I just won't let him jump

The only other box he wouldn't have ticked for you is he isn't grey

ha ha

Looking at the grey i'm not liking the lead issue, I do agree it is often a sign of an underlying problem.

Have i missed something?

What is wrong with your mare you have currently? From the pics you've posted she seems to have a good jump?

Do you plan to sell her? You've not had her long?

Lill I have had her for 18 months, that is quite a long time for me
tongue.gif
yes she has a super jump and yes she is a great horse but she is not the right horse for me to jump competitively on....am trying to work out whether I can keep her too tho, watch this space.

I think in the time i've been on here you have had a few! I've had a few come and go but always had the consistant one! Has it really been 18months? Doesn't seem that long.

What happened to the grey gelding ? Casper was it??

Yep you could say that, there is a list further up the thread somewhere! I never owned Casper, he belonged to a friend
smile.gif
I tried him but he wasn't right for me and she sold him to a hunting home.

Ah i will back track and try and find it, haven't read all the thread and i can't watch the videos so can't help you on the 2 horses that you mention. Have to say it would worry me if the grey finds it so impossible to canter on one lead though, did you say it was ok SJ on both leads ? Or does it change?

Woo got it right! It was Casper, i remember him he looked lovely!

I'm a neither too! Both have good points but neither did it for me! The grey is weak behind and the dun looked a bit stuffy and lacking scope but more powerful behind. Both looked like nice horses for lower levels.

I liked the way the grey jumped so calmly but there was just something lacking in the power and scope dept! She wasnt using her backend which would concern me. I would keep on looking but it is your choice not mine!

See if you'd bought a youngster (not the 2 year old!) from Alvescot last year, you'd be starting to affiliate it now!!!

I agree with above posts, neither of those look right. The dun looks like a pony and the grey isn't bad, but not quite there either.

I wondered why i liked the grey (and i much prefered her from the original videos), then i saw her breeding and it clicked :P (love the ramiro z lines every damn time).

I like the grey, she looks a sweetie and something to work with. The dun does NOTHING at all for me. I dont even like the trotting movies (theres something behind that niggles me and i cant put my finger on what)

I do wonder if she has the real scope or potential that you're after. Even her advert describes her with the potential to be a top RC horse - i dont know you that well weezy but im wondering whether your ambition will exceed her talents?

Yes she has weakish looking hind quarters - so does my PSG horse, nothing wrong with him at all and he still performs, so that by itself wouldnt bother me.

The grey just looks tidier and more to work with for me than the dun (but as i said, he instantly did absolutly nothing for me).

Id go with the little grey mare
smile.gif

Of course... i know nothing about showjumping at all :P

If I had to choose it would be the grey. BUT - I do think you are panicing and just taking the first half decent thing you can afford. This is a false ecconomy. I understand how frustrating it is to not have a horse and be desperate to ride - I have been looking for about a month now - had one failed vetting and other dissapointments. However, do you want to be posting the same thing in 6 months time - grey mare not scopey enough, looking for another horse? I saw a few really nice youngsters for sale on the net a few nights back - both have jumped 1m courses in Holland and ready to go on. There was a HUGE difference in scope and schooling compared to the dun and grey - both were £7500. Above your price range as I think you mentioned you wanted a box. If I had the choice of a scruffy but safe box and a horse that went out every time with no ifs and buts and did everything asked & always in the money, that would be my preference than a swanky box but driving home in tears each time as horse plays up or just can't jump!

Oh Lou - really sorry, but I don't like you on the grey at all (and I KNOW that you like to make the right picture and I just don't think you looked right together). And I would be a little concerned that at 8 years old the hores won't take the correct canter lead - that would ring more than a few alarm bells. I am sure that the grey "would do", but I bet you would be selling her before long. I preferred you on the dun, but that also did not strike me as the sort of horse you wanted. The grey seemed to dive over the fences, which meant that you were never able to go with her as it must have felt like you were jumping down a cliffside the whole time.

Sorry if this sounds horrid (and what do I know as I don't jump any more!!!!)

I wish I knew of something that would be suitable for you - I am sure there is one out there.

Well fate has thrown in her view, the grey was kicked last night in the chest and has had to have veterinary care this morning to drain a hematoma

So the search continues!
