From what I’ve read this is the case - I’m no expert in the slightest but have read in several places that early covering has longer gestation than later in the season

that’s good to know. I guess it makes sense doesn’t it !

Congratulations IHW! Absolutely gorgeous filly. My vet, who also events, has just had a Diarado filly from her 4* mare, she is so delighted with the filly she is putting the mare back to him again for next year.

At the moment my grey mare is next door to a grey jack donkey....a 13.2hh mule ???

How funny! I'm hoping for a bay filly! Mare is grey sire dark bay but from a family of greys, so will probably get a grey colt!

Grey is a simple dominant therefore the sire is just bay, no grey to contribute. If the mare is heterozygous for grey then you've an equal chance of getting a non grey so hooves crossed for your bay filly!
