a "how much"? with a twist...taken out of the meat chain

[ QUOTE ]
What question are you actually asking - now I've been back to read the replies? How much would they have cost when you got them (which is what I answered) or how much would it cost to keep them til they were ready for sale? Or how much now?

Gah, woman. I've lost, haven't I

basically how much do people think these ponies would be worth at an Abbatoir?

i was VERY surprised TBH...
But things are going to get worse before they get better with this dumbass regulation coming in end of June.....

is that on the hook? & how do you work out on the hook weight verses walking?

[/ QUOTE ]

2/3rds is hook weight

[ QUOTE ]
Have they gone to the Pie in the sky then? Or will they be visiting there shortly?

[/ QUOTE ]

no they're now in my back field..they were due to go this morning...

What is their breeding and they have not got any ailments and have they been handled at all.

If they are sound and healthy and you took some better photos of them you could get more money for them.

I have had a quick look on NFED for you forest bred ponies born in 2007 are being advertised for between £400-£650 but you need to handle them a bit and maybe smarten them up to make them look more appealing to get that sort of price.

I have a 7 year old forester who I bought a few year back as a just turned 5 year old and paid £3k for him - they may not look very special now but who knows where their talents lie in a few years time they could make lovely riding ponies for kids or adults.

I am a bit confussed - are you trying to buy the ponies off the meat man or sell them to one?

Why are you asking for a how much if you already know what they could be worth?

don't give up JM, am a little confuzzled to.

They are new ones to you they were due to go this morning from someone else and you bought them instead and cos of low price of meat they were cheap? or am I missing the mark and we are all being a bit dim?

Or were you sending them?

JM - How is the bay bred?

[/ QUOTE ]

newfie's

[/ QUOTE ]

I know they are newfies - you said in OP they were registered.. wondered what sire and dam.

I believe the original question was rhetorical and used to highlight just how low the meat value of horses has become.

As I perviously tried to indicate, if the meat man does not want them and the sale price has dropped to such a low level, then what is going to happen to the constant stream of foals that the horse breeding industry keeps producing?
