Another fatal dog attack

Once again an attack in the home, we don’t know the full story but I can’t understand how so many people are happy to let their dogs be so close to babies and young children. The internet is full of videos showing that and people are commenting saying how sweet it is… I would never let my dogs be loose around babies or toddlers, even though they are not aggressive, no one knows what their dogs would do if a child suddenly screamed or tried to grab them. So sad for that poor baby

I don't have a dog, just cats, ferrets and horses, but I would be wary of leaving any animal unsupervised with a baby. Babies (never had any of them, either) make loud noises, are unpredictable and smell funny, all things that could easily trigger an animal to give an undesirable response.

That poor baby, it doesn't bear thinking about. The family must be distraught.

I was reading a another report of a small child being in a coma after a dog bite (fortunately she seems to be ok). It was an XL bully, it had previously bitten it's 19 year old owner, there were quotes like " he was a softy, he & the baby loved each & they used to get on the travel cot together"
I wish I could say I'm shocked!

It's honestly frightening how many people are unaware of what their dogs are capable of/or are trying to telegraph to them through their body language.
I've had it countless times where I have told people (who are long-time dog owners/breeders/exhibitors) to be careful because their dog is looking unhappy with a situation and they look at me like I am speaking Swahili.

I had it with a very insecure dog had a go at me a few weeks ago and I had diplomatic conversation with the owner that this was a management issue, they should be very careful in their interactions and to not assume this would ever be cured.
They took dog away and said they'd tried it with lots of new people and it was 'great now', yeah right.
Yesterday the dog was exposed to some stimuli in a controlled way and was fine, but that was not good enough, oh no, we have to try and do what everyone else is doing. Owner later asked two people who should have known better, when my back was turned, to come and interact with the dog, I hear a commotion and guess what's happened, yes, it's been pushed too far and no, it is very much not fixed, now I have to be the bad guy, to keep everyone safe, when neither the dog or anyone else should have been put in that position, just because the owner wanted to satisfy themselves about something rather than think about how the dog was feeling.

Yeah, I was just speculating that the dog's stress bucket may have already been full and something like fireworks could have caused it to overflow.

this! My uni research is just confirming what we already know. People either cant read dog body language or just ignore it.

I know that when my niece's dog attacked me it was nowhere near fatal. But, she was thinking of trying to rehome that mess. Now she realizes that that isn't a responsible action.

I have my sister's cat since my niece and her dog moved back in. There is a looong story behind this. I finally told my sister that they have to make up their mind within the next 2 weeks. They may euthanize the dog or rehome the cat. Oy Vey.

There are 29 cane corso puppies for sale in our area, not counting crosses which are very popular now. Most described as brought up with children, friendly and will make good pets.
some show a picture of mother to show size. This problem is not going away. Cant have a XBully, get a Cane Corso.

If they even are cane corsos!

It'll be fine, it's all in how you train them! And of course, lots of love 💕💕💕

I laugh, but... This probably is what they think.

(I'm also picking up a new dog this weekend. A precious little border collie puppy from a reputable breeder, parents health / genetic tested, all that jazz. If he turns out evil, it probably will be my fault!)

This is very exciting news. Pictures will be required

When he's home and there are photos that aren't in his breeder's house (which it would seem rather rude to post on a public forum), I will endeavour to oblige! There's currently a row of puppy toys sitting on his bed in the living room eagerly awaiting the little teeth that are going to rip them to shreds :D

And of course dogs are like their owners, so if you aren't a terrible person, you won't have a terrible dog... (That one can sting when you have three dogs with varying degrees of reactivity - working on it and vastly improved in at least one; give me time with the other two)

So sad.

You really cannot trust any dog with a baby.

Maybe a year or two ago, I was walking my Lurcher past a lady with a pram.

The baby was screaming and my Lurcher became alarmingly aroused at the sound.

People get so wrapped up in the notion that their dog wouldnt hurt a fly...
I think my dogs are lovely but totally agree, I passed a toddler having a full blown melt down recently. Kicking and screaming on the floor in the road. My younger lab was really worried by the situation. His hackles were all up and he was desperatly torn between running away and running at it. It was quite a disconcerting response I thought. However we dont have little children, It was ear piercingly loud and i think the fact he was squirming on the floor didnt help either.
I obviously had him on a lead and we just kept walking past but I honestly, as much as i love him couldn't swear what he'd have done given the chance.
