Another fatal dog attack

Unfortunately he was badly bitten by a collie that dragged him out of the the car boot by his hind leg so was my hand some years ago, it took two people a few minutes to drag the attacking dog away, very aggressive

He is quite small, a rescue and very docile for a jrt

Also I have known several small dogs grabbed by larger dogs around the torso
which resulted in internal injuries needing operations, and one often hears about very small dogs killed by larger dogs.

I am not a very doggy person just came the zero tolerance approach as the easiest way to avoid trouble before it starts

never very happy when some great lolloping hound dashes up while the loving owner yells oh he won't bite

I loooove the he's friendly and/or he won't bite. I've taken to telling people I'm not friendly and that I bite.

I had a crazy GSD who was dog aggressive. People would say things like he will just sniff or some such. I finally started answering, well, she'll just leave holes. Was very useful.

Apparently there was a move to put CCs on dangerous dogs list which provoked the usual crap on Facebook with small dogs being cited as the most dangerous canines on the planet 🤔. If I had a choice of which dog to be attacked by, I would choose a yorkie any day over a CC. It's just getting worse now.
Yep every time. Someone being attacked by a dog. I’m likely to wade in and try to help if its a terrier as a good boot to its ribs will likely stop it. A boot to the ribs of a CC is at best going to be ineffective at worst going to redirect to me.

Use of the breed specific legislation for additional charge and conviction on top of dog dangerously out of control, due to breaching the DEFRA exemption.

Doesn't the UK not require rabies vaccination? In my state, rabies records are sent once a month to some office. Then the owner receives a license fee notice for payment from the county. In my county it is $10 USD.
It does help keep track of owners.

The UK has been rabies-free for a very long time. Some types of bats can carry a type of virus which cause it, but the risk is very low.

UK has been Rabies free since 1922.
Thats why we have fairly stringent requirements for animals coming into the country. Though many would argue that it is not stringent enough

Surely we dont need to change perceptions as in 10yrs give or take they wont exist in the uk anymore

I find it really odd that XL bully owners want people to say hello to their dogs. I am the opposite, I don’t want random people coming over and stroking my dogs especially with the hype about dogs biting. My 2 tiny terriers and whippet cross are very friendly but I don’t want to risk anyone saying they have had a bad experience with them so don’t allow petting ever…

I'm with you on that. Shouldn't all responsible adults stop their kids randomly approaching unknown dogs, especially ones of a size and strength to badly hurt them? (and yes, keep them away from the small ones as well).
Also, if I'm reeling my dog in at the sight of your dog approaching, that doesn't make it about you. A) I don't know either you or your dog and B) have you considered that my dog might not be dog friendly?

I used to get upset when people made assumptions about my dogs (the crossing the road, comments etc are not a new thing) but I bet it would be a lot more upsetting to be the victim of a dog bite (or worse).
Some of my dogs have been excellent ambassadors for their breed and have helped change peoples' perceptions but it was on the other person's terms, I wouldn't walk over to people and demand they pet my dog.
I guess if I found it really was impacting on my life that much, I would get a type of dog that people were less wary about.
I reel in my dog because she's a tw@t.
