Badly Named Horses Thread

I must be weird. Most of these names sound fine to me!
Yes same, not seeing anything odd about "Frank", "Dusty" or "Tina"!

I love old man names for horses - Barry, Dennis and Colin were particular favourites. Barry was one of the nicest looking horses I've ever seen.

I did once ride a riding school pony called Bush, which I thought was a bit odd. I think it was because of his bushy mane rather than being an homage to an American president! And I always find it funny that my Welsh is called Legend when he's been retired since the age of 10 and he has achieved absolutely nothing of note in his 20 years.

Steve, Colin, Alan, Eric - all ex racehorses.
17.2 RID gelding called Buttercup - sweet story to it relating to his birth and his name has stuck.
Wizzard- tall black wb gelding
Kelvin - tall bay wb gelding
Turnip - hwt 18hh ISH

I'm not a fan of human names for horses, although I've known plenty and my best horse ever was originally called Justin Thyme and my new one is called Jack

The most spoilt rotten homebred (not mine!) 2 year old gelding, pushing 16hh already, with a rotten temper, zero manners, a permanently pissy expression, who had been allowed to walk over everyone and everything all it’s life. The breeder thought it could do no wrong, and it was unironically called ‘Handsome’. Blehh.

Best name ever for a Shetland!

I can even recall the reason behind it, she was in primary school at the time and the class novel was about a baby owl called Plop who was afraid of the dark.

I'm sure our first hamster had the same name as the hamster who lived at her nursery school as well.

My horse is named Lexi I always hated the name I wanted to change it but I couldn’t because she wouldn’t respond to any other name. Turns out she was called this name since she was a foal. It’s to human for a horse in my opinion. It’s also a gypsy name and my horse is a Irish draught so it makes no sense.

Sugar Plum! A 13 hand pony with the temper of a mad alligator. Some fool climbed two fences to put his very small child on her back. Result could have been a lot more nasty than it was! A few days later she flattened a silly bloke who tried to feed her grass. Surprisingly she was a great kids pony once caught.

My uncles horse is called Baby - he never got around to giving her a proper name when she was born! I had one called Disgrace, and he really was.

At one time in the yard we had a Thomas, Tom, Tommy, Tim, Timmy and a Tam. All of the owners wanted their horses called Tom or Thomas so we had to get inventive. With the exception of Tam, he was always Tam. We are back to having a Thomas and a Tommy again.

I don't like human names for horses either really but we have a few of them in the yard. Hank, Henry, Jess, Ronnie, Lou, Dora, Maddie, Ivan, Joe, Jeremy, Douglas, Hugo, Mary, Max, Bruce, Humphrey, Marty and Donald.

At one time we had to change the names of a lot of RDA ponies as they all arrived called Bill or Billy. Merlin the one I took on retirement had been known as Bill in his previous home, I think that he was the seventh to arrive so named. The first Billy is still with the group.

To be honest most of the horses at the sanctuary have human names. We had a little family of Charles, Annie, Harriet, Edgar and Violet all of which I hated at the start but they grew on me. Except Edgar, calling such a beautiful, perfect little colt Edgar was a crime ?
