That sounds cautiously good progress but utterly grim for you @Michen :( I think all of us would want the familiarity of 'home' as such so that seems really normal and yes the whole fear of previous trauma would only add to terrible stress and distress. I am sorry you are having this but hopefully Bog will soon feel and look much better and can go back to the barn to fully recover. Hope you can take a breath, get some rest and that things really do start to move upwards now.

Oh Michen I'm only just catching up after FB showed me a story. Talk about put you through the mill, and not surprised you've been struggling post Basil. Fingers firmly crossed that things are improving and many hugs in your direction.

Brilliant news!

You had to stand 2 feet away? That is strange. What is their reasoning for that?

I had my mare have an eye operation. When I turned up she was standing depressed at the back. She was a very opinionated mare and when she saw us, she practically dug her way out! It was quite touching. Bless Bog, he knows his mum is his person alright, even when off colour!

Because of their suspicion that it’s viral. Particularly if it could be salmonella which is another theory. He’s in an isolation ward at the moment. Don’t want me taking anything out or bringing anything in when his immune system is so down.

They had a tape thing around his stall and a dip in dip out, all the vets in protective clothing etc.

Utterly miserable for him.

I was pretty shocked tbh I expected him to look the same or better but he really didn’t to me, I hope they put him back on the banamine when I left.

I don't often venture into the tack room, I'm very sorry to hear Boggle is poorly.
He looked absolutely fantastic in your most recent photo, hopefully it won't be too long before you're both back out having fun.
Fingers crossed for better news the next time they update you.

This also caused a wry smile.. does travel protection include your horse getting sick I wonder? 🙈 Haha. Obviously the only thing in the world that matters is Bog getting better but I can’t help but feel his timing on this was a little bit off, just when I was meant to be heading off on a bucket list trip 🤣

Not so fast, he says.

Thank you! The vets said how incredible he looked and I really hope his general health helps him get through this.

Right now I’d settle for being able to give him a big hug (even though he’d hate that- but maybe not at the moment!)

Not good guys, his fever is higher than it ever has been this morning and he's refusing any food. They are icing his front legs because they are also now worried about laminitis (apparently that can correlate?).

Back on the banamine. They think he really should be perking up by now if it's what they expected ie day 3 of a coronavirus.

F***.

Oh blimey @Michen :( :( Horribly, horribly worrying for you but Boggle is in the best hands and care you can give him. Hopefully banamine will help and give more time for the vets to work out what the problem is. Really sorry to hear this continued worry - was hoping he was on the road to recovery. Stay strong, everyone is rooting for you both. xx

Oh no, so sorry to read this, maybe they could let you in for a cuddle, it may help him fight this, perk him up, or take hand feed from his mum?
Any blood test results yet?
Thinking of you and feeling useless that there is nothing i can do to support you from over here.

He's had regular bloods, all have stayed normal ish. The fecal test is what should come back from NY late today that may (or may not) show a virus.

I think I will ask them on the phone later re going in, I don't see why I can't if I have the same protective clothing that they do. If the results come back with no virus then it should be allowed anyway.

I'd be sat in there with him all day and night if I could :(

I would be telling them i am coming over to sit with him, not ask. Try the 'psychological support' to encourage him to eat might persuade them if they are resistant.
Remember they are working for you, to get the best, and fastest recovery.

Ohh my goodness, poor Bog. Such a super little horse - fingers and toes tightly crossed for him. I’m really sorry you’re dealing with this, keeping you in my thoughts x

I feel so fricking sick, laminitis I mean really- that hadn't even crossed my mind. I had no idea a fever could induce that.

This is utter, utter hell.

Laminitis in a septic/toxic or fever situation is a potentially expected complication but the good thing is that they know that and can work with that in mind. I wish there was something to say that would help.

Yes, fever or even stress induced laminitis is a thing 😥 but it sounds like they're on it and aware of it. So there's that.

Ii feel like he's infected with *something*

Poor Bog! And poor you!

Just lying in bed staring at my laptop. Can’t exactly work. Can’t do anything really though other than wait.

My dog isn’t even here as I offloaded her when I had to take Bog in and I just can’t bring myself to drive up there (very close to the barn) because I have this awful feeling he won’t be going back.

Plus as much as I love her she’s not exactly in tune when you are feeling devastated, unlike my surrogate lab who didn’t move from my side the week Basil died.

Fingers crossed for Boggle , his condition must be a help with recovery… can’t imagine how you are feeling but agree you need to tell them you are going in to see him , if he is worse it might need his mum spending some time with him.. lots of good vibes winging their way xx and yes Baileys is perfectly acceptable instead of milk 😊

I'm so sorry Michen my heart literally sank when read Bog was ill I am keeping everything crossed for you and sending every healing vibe I have.

My Arabi got colic suddenly a few years ago never had colic in his whole life he was pretty bad wouldn't eat and just stood shaking, vet thinks his was a virus and or possibly an infection as while blood cells were low, they put him on antibiotics and he started to perk up and eventually would eat small amounts of very wet feed and then was totally fine.

We never really knew what was wrong but it's never happened again thankfully.

Yeah, my dogs (well, one is more sensitive/receptive) are clueless at such times! That's ok though, I'm sure Pepper is fine where she is.

I'm a worst case scenario type, but it's entirely possible that Bog will indeed go back to the barn and a you'll be gracing us with lovely photos of him and the scenery again! I think having prior trauma of sorts does not help in these situations. At all. I get it to some extent, because I've been through some sh*t in my life, albeit not this exact scenario, and I know how bad things can just...suck. Or how quickly things can change. That goes both ways though. Things can change for the worse or for the better. Many horses have gotten mysterious ailments or even a diagnosed ailment with a poor prognosis and things have turned around. It's just all so "unknown" right now, and that's just hard.

You're doing everything that you can though. Hopefully you'll get to see him and he with him for a bit today.
