he Looks so good, and yet you know he is ill. So he is fighting this, and he is still your Boggle. Wanting to run away is the flight reaction and is so, so normal - so don’t beat yourself up over it. You know he is in the best place for him, and because you love him you will be there for him.

Sending hugs, healing vibes, prayers and virtual alcohol.

100% Bog. At least he seems to think he's got this! Roll on Monday and targeted support for his lungs.

Plus, what a star, walking in those wellington boots!

This is a horse who I can’t even put back boots on. Or bandage. He must be mighty pissed about the boots 🤣

I did a late night drop of his favourite ice tea incase it helps the drinking. And some treats for the wonderful night shift ICU staff.

You are brilliant.

I love the treats for his carers.

When mine was in hospital, I wrote a list of her likes/dislikes and character. I put a photo on the top of her in better times. A montage, actually. I reckoned that they always see sick horses. I wanted them to know what my horse was like in good times, when not a sick horse. I guess I wanted them to know how special she was, how alive, how unique.

At the end, when I went to go and get her, the laminated sheet was on the outside of her notes, on a clipboard outside the stable. When I commented on it, her care givers said they had loved to see the photos and see her quirks and likes. It had, indeed, made her seem more 'real' for want of a better word. She was not 'the eye surgery' - she was Amber, the eventer, who had the heart of a lion, the power of a small nuclear missile, but who would worry if you passed in front of her vision when tied.

I don't know if that would help? It helped me that I'd made the sheet, and it was like introducing her so people knew what she was like and what they were fighting for.

That’s actually such a nice idea. I kind of wish I’d done it at the start as day 6 tomorrow! Sort of feels a bit too late. I totally get what you mean, I know every horse is special but I really want them to know how much.

That said, I don’t even think I need to show or tell them. He is busy showing them all himself! it was so sweet how his specialist vet talked about him yesterday, she kind of had to check herself as she just totally diverted off the medicine to talk about how taken with him she was. It was really heartwarming, given how many horses she deals with every day.

He is not a normal horse, I have never, ever met another like him. And I don’t say that as an owner with rose tinted glasses but just the way he interacts with the world…he’s different.

Wish some of you had met him in real life, as you’d know what I mean just from how he looks at you over the stable door.

He is special. There’s always been something about his spirit and zest for life that sets him apart. So glad the prognosis is looking a little better.

And when he walks out of that hospital it will have been that zest for life that got him through. Not doubting the care and skill of the professionals, but the horse has to want to live and you can see Bog isn't ready to quit yet.

And what a fan club he has! Come on Bog, do it for us, and for your Mum.

I always say that to my vets about BBP, they only see him when something is off (which can be often!) but I show them this picture and they understand a little bit more about who he is, like Boggle there is no one else like him (in a very different way 😄):

I know how easy it is to catastrophise when you have already had the worst happen with Basil. But try to balance it with the positives, he looks fantastic, he has the strength to tow his handler around, he’s bright eyed. Yes he is coughing, but he has pneumonia, so of course he is coughing. As a human your cough doesn’t go away overnight, even with a cold, no matter how many medications and potions you take, the cough can go on for ages even once you start to feel better. So although i know you feel really desperate right now, I feel super positive on Boggles behalf. We are all behind you both.

The cough response is a good one; it means his lungs are trying to get rid of mucous/irritation and that is healthy, even if he is still poorly and confusing the vets! He looks grand, unbelievable even considering what he has been through. I am glad his bloods are improving and hope for more improvements all round.

The ‘cell‘ photos make me well up but he looks much brighter in the 2nd pic. Your visits will be helping him as he’s bonded to you. I also hope the little things to try and keep things more normal for him will help, like taking him out for that quick leg stretch.

I didn’t have nearly such a traumatic time as you but last year when Finn was in the RVC he had multiple things go wrong and at one point I thought I might lose him. He ended up being there around 4 weeks with various complications and it was just awful. But I felt like he perked up when he saw me (and this is a horse who shows little outward emotion, he keeps it all inside).

If any horse could be loved back to good health I think it would be Boggle..!!!! He's fighting and that's a good sign, his general good nature and personality seem to still be flowing through...not many poorly horses could charm the pants off all of their carers like seems to have lol.
Keeping everything crossed that he starts to make progress xxx

Not sure what the time difference is but I hope the news is good at the next update. It must be such a worry for you. Hope you get some rest and that there is good news soon.

If he could he would have written his own prescription and discharged himself last night he would have 🤣I smile every time I think about how he came out of that box, the poor young Icu nurse going “Boggle… BOGGLE!!!”

My friend who has Peppers kids have got really sick with some bug, and Pepper is spending her entire day curled up with them. So it’s kinda cute that whilst I don’t really need her here, she’s busy helping others. It’s weird she absolutely HATES all children bar my godson (even one poor girl who she’s seen every day of her life on the UK yard and still wouldn’t let her touch her) but she adores my friends 9 year old twins and did from the start. And they adore her. So that’s nice she’s being helpful somewhere!

No call yet, but my morning routine is a coffee (and now a cigarette) whilst I wait by the phone…

Haha.. god help them. Boggle is even brighter today and has now decided he will absolutely not tolerate those back boots on 🤣 They tried to persevere but sounds like it’s a hard no from him. Haha, oh Bog. Some things never change.

He is still spiking a fever but it is slightly less frequent (they usually get the call at 3am to say he needs more banamine, last night he didn’t need anymore until his scheduled dose).

He’s still not pooed and has been tubed again this morning.

His lung sounds haven’t worsened (or improved). But his blood work continues to.

It sounds like it’s all trending in the right direction.

Thank you, yes I definitely am. I can’t explain it but the expression he gave me last night was a “I’m not done here” kind of Boggle look and it gave me an overwhelming feeling that he’s maybe, just maybe going to be ok.

Spirit has to count for something and he has SO much of it.

It counts for masses. Ludo gave up. He just threw in the towel and said "enough!". Bog isn't ready to quit yet.
