Why?

I was at Burgham 4* that weekend and Valmy beats and Cooley roselant both competed there and that's the same standard as the olympics. In fact I think there're more that were at Burgham that are at Burghley. Ros (and the other riders) know their horses. I don't think it's a problem.
Because the Olympics is a much larger event for the horse to cope with mentally, not seeing other team horses competing ? I guess the days where you did a 3 day then the horse had a month off are gone ( and yes I know they were longer events).

He’d have had six weeks between events?!

Also Ros says herself he’s the most laid back horse in the world - she had to wake him up pre xc at Versailles.

I wouldn't be one bit concerned about those who had been at the Olympics also doing Burghley- and I am selfishly delighted. Those who are doing both didn't do a long format in the Spring season (Austin and Ros) so the Olympics was like a prep run lol. Both horses are fast and tough.
Some horses benefit from more runs for fitness and their minds. Caroline Powell's mare has just run up and down the hills of Blair.

Sad to see Tim withdraw his first horse, we haven't seen much of him and I was looking forward to it

But not 6 weeks in a field ? I think Ros is a great rider, but on this one I disagree ( not that she will care about my opinion).

What would 6 weeks in a field do? He lives out 24/7 anyway….
He didn’t start his season very early, has done no long format until Olympics and then went round an 8 min flat track. The 6.5 minute 4S at Bicton would be more exerting with its hills. The travel would have been marginal as quick to Paris by Eurostar. It would take longer to get to Blair.
The modern sport isn’t like the old sport. It’s much easier on horses and the ground at Burghley will be spot on with a near TB horse.
Colorado Blue is doing the same with a similar amount of blood and having had same preseason. Two big events a year is what most do and this is the 2nd one.
London 52 has a lot less blood and tbh he isn’t a Burghley horse and has already won Pau so can see why he has been put away for rest of the season.

It was an 8 minute track on flat ground and a soft 4*.
A 4*S would be 6.5 mins so hardly any difference, in fact at a 4S you would sj on same day, the Olympics was split over 3 days.

They won’t run banzai over a tough track - he will end up somewhere softer like Pau or Maryland. I am not sure why as he has enough blood but Yasmin has only done the softer 5* in Luhmuhlen, Pau and Kentucky.

I’m not sure I’d cottoned on to Paris only being 8 mins.

Blair 2* was 9 mins and a load of hills!!!
