Burghley thread

I was watching on Burghley TV when it just stopped, now I can't carry on as it says that it has finished.

Can you not watch it in 'catch up' mode?
You can but it defends when they put it up. Keep checking. You can watch it until next years burghley I believe so it’ll be there at some point.

Ros and Walter are supreme. He didn’t look troubled by any of it and 8 seconds under!! One of the great horses.

Harry Meade is a well deserved no 1. Three horses in the top six. And a thoroughly pleasant chap.

I think Ollie blamed his horse rather by inference there. Didn’t say it but did say it if you see what I mean. Must’ve been very disappointed.

Loved Topspin and Icarus (he didn’t know quite what to do bless him!).

And a word for Bling who I saw at badminton and was quite green. She grew and grew over this course.

Four combinations pulled up on course by the GJ (apologies if the names have been listed together before.)

no 5 Joseph Murphy Bellinine Fighting Spirit fence 27
no 34 Elspeth Bryce Lacoste fence 22
no 42 Alexander Tordoff Cool Jack fence 30
no 58 Tom Bird Rebel Rhyme fence 24A

Thanks for listing! Why was Joseph pulled, out of interest - if you / anyone else have any insight or opinions?
Just curious as he’s fairly local!

Commentary said blood in the mouth at the time. Not all reasons were given for the others.

From what I saw…

Delighted for Ros, Austin, Tim & Harry. Super bad luck to Will, saw him the fence before (great dressage, most relaxed I’ve seen that horse). Awful luck to David, I love Galileo and it was just such bad luck (was also very pleased with his dressage as that horse is hot & not easy!).

Elspeth & Alex should have pulled up long before GJ did them the honour… Meanwhile, the 4 aforementioned + Laura & Lucy all finished full of running loads left in the tank. Tough uphill course I could feel it just from walking so no doubt it really did push the limits of fitness. Commendations due to Emma HW for taking the longer routes, horse gained in confidence and allowed her to set them up properly.

A few that retired after a refusal etc again, well done for not pushing on ‘just to get round’. Really liked that. Ultimately, glad everyone came home safe.

A short inspection list for tomo, be interesting to see what the final names are for SJ!

PS the line on the pedigree fence was just YIKES!!!

Masterclass from Ros and Walter. Think Salty just gets better and better. Harry’s rounds hairy in places, but I think he gave all the horses a super ride and to get 3 horses in the top 6 is quite an achievement!

really felt for Emma Thomas because he’s not an easy horse, and I think that’s his PB dressage at 5*. I thought the rest of their round was the best I’ve seen them jump, but was just confused.

Bling isn’t my favourite horse (not disrespect, she’s just not my type) but all credit to Laura because she looked a million times more confident than at Badminton and I thought it was a brilliant round.

I think GJ did a great job today, there’s been a lot on social media over the last few years about tired horses, and felt they really made the right decisions from a welfare POV today and that should be applauded

As someone else said, very few of the mistakes we saw today were punishing to the horses. Just misreading fences/poor lines/bad luck. Will be interesting to see how the finishers trot up tomorrow morning!

I’ve just finished watching. I tried to watch it live, but the cafe was just too busy! I thought it was a really good Burghley Xc. Lots of scoreboard changes. Even some big names caught out. Not many falls or things that made me wince.

Ros and Walter are just poetry in motion.
Lots of lovely young horses showing a lot of talent.
Gaspard is awful to watch. I’m amazed he never gets stopped. And I agree with whoever disliked the dropping of the reins at the end.
I also breathed a little sigh of relief when the German guy fell off.
Oliver was having a nice round until the run out. He didn’t look to be hunting too much (as in over pushing) and was patting her now and again. I didn’t think he blamed her for the run out, he said he didn’t know what happened. It was a big blinking corner, easy to miss. He wasn’t the only rider caught out there, including other big names. I think the Maltings was my least favourite bit of the course to watch (it often is on other years too!). So I feel a little sorry for him. I’m glad he carried on and hope he gets a good round tomorrow.
Only 30 in the show jumping tomorrow. Here’s to a kind course that doesn’t cause too many issues.

HM and Annaghmore Valoner have been given extra time penalties because they left the box too early, according to Eventing Nation, so Tim Price and Vitali are now third.
Wow, that’s a most un Harry Meade like rooky error 😳. They now have 3.2 time penalties.

Sorry just come onto this: any idea of this is on Freeview TV today (Sunday)??

Missing the good old days when it was always on.

Gonna be wet here today in the Wet (aka West) country, so settling down with a glass of red and some cheese & bic's would be nice..........

I do have an aged relative who lives within striking distance of Burghley. Keep meaning to go visit the old bean at Burghley time......
