this isn't actually a yard/stables, it's a museum, I think in Japan; the horses are live exhibits showcasing breeds from different countries (see the flags over the top?)

You're right that it's a museum, and in Asia, but it's the Heilan Horse Culture Museum in China.

For example this article for tourists talks about how luxurious, and wonderful it is for the horses, but I think it looks extremely bare, and seems designed so the horses have nothing else to do than be available to visitors. I wonder if there's any chance the horses gets to spend most of the day in an environment that better suits them.

thank you for correcting me! I do agree it really isn't suitable as permanent living at all, hopefully it's just like a petting zoo/county fare type deal here whereby the animals are there when it's open to the public and housed elsewhere at other times. To me it's catering to a human's idea of 'luxury', rather than a horse's.

I don't know which bit is more depressing, the fact there might be owners out there who are 'sick of' their elderly horses, or that this delightful person is so keen to sell them.

Correcting, and correcting, you only said you thought it was in Japan, and considering all the online posts claiming it is in Dubai or similar, you where at least close.
I've briefly heard about this Chinese museum before, this time I decided to try to find out a bit more, hoping to find out how long the horses are on display per day etc. But even though there's lots of photos online, I wasn't able to find out much info.

All I've been able to find out is that the Heilan Horse Culture museum opened in 2016, it's supposedly built together with/next to other equestrian facilities, and a shopping mall.

Besides the part with live horses the museum also have an area with other horsey museum stuff. The museum and/or equestrian facilities also includes for example:

However all the photos I can find where the inside of the museum stalls are visible, they're completely bare. No bedding, no hay net, nothing, except what looks like an automatic waterer.

Maybe I'm wrong, but considering that there's zero stuff to nibble on in the stall, I'm guessing the only reason for this Akhal-teke to wear a muzzle is that it likes to nibble humans?

But the little that is written about it online all seems to be about how luxurious everything is, and how the horses are so well looked after because look "some of them have plaits"...

Admittedly, now that I've seen it a few times, I think the Fjord forelock plait is sort of cute in a weird way (everything fits a beauty), but I would be happier to see the horses have bedding on the ground, and hay to eat, rather than plaits. But as I mentioned in my other reply, I presume the set up is the way it is, to make sure the museum horses are available to the visitors.
Presumably, since they can't live on air, they must have access to something to eat at least at some point during the days. Anyhow, in the unlikely scenario that I would go on a holiday trip to China (I haven't been on a holiday abroad since my early twenties), I think I would skip this museum.

@FinnishLapphund it does say on the museum site that 'The horses live in proper stables, but are displayed in luxurious marble pens to greet visitors.' I would hope that that means that the horses spend an hour a day or less being 'displayed' but I suspect it is more than that. There is no sign of grass in any of the photos I've seen so presumably they get no turnout or grazing :(

Lots of Chinese yards have high equine mortality rates. Wouldn’t be surprised if this place was the same. The knowledge is just not there yet, and the entire country doesn’t have a single piece of legislation protecting equine welfare either.

The Heilan Museum is a grotesque caricature of a ‘museum’. China does have its own equestrian culture, primarily among its nomadic peoples, but of course, instead of showing that, they do a cheap imitation of primarily Western horse tradition, and entertain people through making horses suffer.

You managed to find their own site! I've tried to find it, I googled the name, I tried skipping Heilan and just use the rest, I tried skipping that it was in China, I tried to add extra words so Google would understand what I was looking for, and I could only find various touristy type of pages mentioning it, and a Daily Mail article from 2017. I even did a search on Wikipedia, but they only had a Heilan Equestrian Club page, which didn't say anything about a museum.

Anyhow, yeah, I can't imagine the meet and greet live horses part of the museum would only be open for an hour or so. I'm sure it might be a good exercise for the horse in the photo walking around in that luxurious looking "horse pond", but I'm sure that if the horses could choose themselves, they would prefer a bit less luxury, and instead being treated more like horses.

For me it’s the youngsters for loan and people are expected to pay for the privilege of backing them.

I’ve had the time waster thing. A few years ago I tried a horse for part loan, I turned up it was much greener than I had been led to believe (hadn’t cantered under saddle). I called the lady back later the same day to say she wasn’t for me as I didn’t have the experience or nerve required. By the same evening the advert had the addendum NO TIMEWASTERS 🤦‍♀️

“Just a question
I own my own horse however iv never rode. Now shes fully backedand ready to be ridden, id like to try it is there any trainers that could help me start riding? And how much usually is it per lesson, I'd ideally like to train atleast 3 days a week.”

What could possibly go wrong?

Why aren't they asking those questions to the person who supposedly have fully backed their horse? Or their yard owner? Perhaps even the person who sold them the horse?

🤔

I apologise FL, I have just looked at the site again (where I found the information in my post) and I don't think it is the official site for the Museum, I think it's some sort of travel site that has articles about different global 'attractions'. It is the site linked by a previous poster but it initially looked to me like the site of the museum:

I know that China is very controlled (particularly it's citizens' presence online) and some of it quite closed off from the rest of the world, but I'm quite surprised that you couldn't find a website for the museum as it's pitched as a tourist attraction. Maybe they only want Chinese tourists so have a website in Chinese?

I found this site which appears to be the site of the province/area the museum is in (it still only has very limited information about the place though), but that is the closest I could get:

I keep seeing the most bonkers prices for horses who would once have been sold for a polo.

15.3 17 year old. Won't hack alone and can buck in canter, takes a good hold so competent rider needed. Can be nervous and spook so needs confident rider. Needs bringing on in dressage. £3125.

Sorry, what?

6 year old ex racer, only walked and trotted in the school. Has hacked but now sold from the field. No tack, reduced at £3000. Try knocking a zero off!

:D It was me that posted the first link you mentioned. Not remembering who posted what is easy to do, but I'm obviously blind as a bat, because I completely managed to miss the info you found on that site. There's also a link which says Visit website (as in the museum), but when I clicked it again it was the same as last time I tried "File not found".

In pure stubbornness I tried some more googling, and I've managed to find some, again, travel suggestion sites that referred to it as Hailanma culture museum/Heilan Ma culture museum, but I still had no better luck in finding an official website, so I'm giving up.

I think you're right, it's probably China being China, and it's something to do with their control over what they allow online. But by the way, I know why the latest sites I found used the word Ma, it's the only word I know in Chinese:

Mǎ = horse,
Mā = mother,
Má = marijuana.

I learnt it from some TV or YouTube documentary where a man fell in love with a Chinese woman, married her, tried to learn to speak Chinese, and ended up calling his new mother-in-law a horse because he didn't get the pronunciation right. 😆😆😆
At some point it was mentioned it wasn't the only thing Ma could mean in Chinese.

Anyhow, at least your last link finally answered how much time the horses are on display in the museum, it's open 9:30-12:00 and 14:00-18:00 every day, but on Friday to Sunday it's also open 20:00-22:00.

If you’re looking for more info on it, the Chinese name’s 海澜马文化博物馆

海澜 - Heilan/Hailan
马 - horse
文化 - culture
博物馆 - museum

I had said I had given up googling that museum, so I tried to resist giving it one last try after seeing your reply. But eventually I still did it.

Google did now find the actual museum, on Maps, and more sites that in Chinese seemed to talk about the museum without actually being the museum itself, but Google still couldn't find an actual website for the museum.
I'm definitely giving up on that museum now, if I can't even find it's website using Chinese, I clearly wasn't meant to find it.

However even though Google Maps told me they failed to find me Directions for how to bicycle, drive a car, or take public transport from where I live in Sweden, to the museum in China, they could offer me a suggestion for how to try to walk there, besides walking it will only include one boat trip from Sweden to Lithuania, and if I start going now in an easterly direction, Google thinks I will be able to be at the museum only 116 days from now.

Though to their credit, they seemed to have found a route avoiding the highest heights, so the highest point during this potential walk would've been reached somewhere along Sarichan Road, located at x distance from Kabul

Optimists:-

1)Donkey foal, a few hours old, Buy now collect in 6 months. £1000

2)
Budget £2500
Looking for 14.3 to 15.3hh middleweight type, safe for a competent teen novice coming off ponies, needs to be safe on the ground, open spaces/fields and can pop a jump, hacking and PC

3)[comment on "2"]
This is basically me too! Why do people not give 2 c**ps about the love and home waiting for the horse? All about money with these people

4)£9000
prefers to face traffic rather than it coming up behind him.
he pulls mega phases in the stable and can lunge at people walking by. His other fault is when staying away he needs lunged before riding then he turns into his lazy cob type self, I would say too lazy unless you have legs off steel
Please note - He also isn’t straight in front and dishes so don’t message if you want a perfectly straight horse. He has had a sarcoid removed from his neck which is still healing.
