If they can only pay 2500 for a saintly perfect horse and think ‘love’ is gonna conquer reality, they have neither the budget nor the common sense required to offer a good home.

Love doesn’t cover vets bills or the budget required for a valuable animal, although it does seem to indicate severe delusion.

I recently paid 9k for our 7 year old ID. We looked at another who was similarly priced but didn't proceed as she was a little bigger than required and subsequent to viewing we were told she didn't hack alone. She was however a lovely horse and a talented jumper. The person selling increased the advertised price to low 5's and she sold within a month. I think to a hunting home where hacking along wouldn't be an issue. When I asked the vet vetting our horse if she was fairly priced she was very clear she was.

Do the math...

1)this one started work aged minus 3
Spent 8 years or more in riding school in [..]and present home 6 years. Prefers to ride in company, will go out on his own but whinnying a lot. Selling due to my age, now retired, winter's getting tough.
[..] is a gelding, approx 11 years old, open to any vet. Welcome to try on field, road and over a fence, will jump. Needs warming up due to a lot of beginners riding him recently.

2)and a true one--
12hh , 8 years . Will do 20mph all day long and will go at 5mph. Ridden by 7 year old. 110% in traffic. 5* home. £1,200 No withheld numbers,

Was #2 on Dragon Driving?
Speed seems to matter there, but 20mph sounds a lot for a 12 hand pony

I’d like to make my own post:

Companion/playmate wanted, must like doing hill sprints around track system, wrestling with a 3yo (pony, not human), rolling in sandpits, going out for walks, staying within electric fencing.

The cheeky bit is I want someone to lend me one and still pay for its hoof trims and preferably a contribution to any hay it needs 😄 Not sure I’ll get many takers!

Am sure if you advertised full livery for a youngster on your track with hay and a buddy included etc someone would snap your hand off!

You might be right, I’m just dithering over the extra insurance and liability issues of having someone else’s horse around so haven’t committed to the idea yet.

I could send you two and would be happy to pay farrier and hay.

BBP - you might be surprised. I offered similar and mostly had people with youngsters contact me (typically I wanted something older)
I did the care but only charged expenses (bedding, trims, hay etc) I didn’t make any money from it. Worked well for all involved, might be worth putting an ad up

My bugbear: “no time wasters as:

-this is breaking my heart
- this is hard enough as it is
- this has been a difficult decision
- etc”

As if the rest of us, who actually want to sell the horses we are selling, should have all the time wasters!

I mean why does anyone think a sob story with a no time wasters warning makes the sale more appealing?

I think you may get a taker too. If I were rehoming Rigs, I would consider it!

Just seen an ad selling a 23 yr old riding horse that they’ve owned for 10 years (which is bad enough) but he comes with a 26 yr old companion horse 😮
i hate these ads so much, especially "we've owned him for a very long time" if youre going to buy a horse you need to prepare that retirement is a thing - not every horse will retire young and not everyone wants to retire their old horse because what a waste of funds on a retired horse apparently!!!
