I am seeing a lot of chancers advertising distinctly average animals, often with issues (sarcoids, prior injuries etc) for really quite ridiculous prices. I realise that demand has driven prices up but I’ve seen a few “I can’t believe he’s not sold!” from owners with an extortionate price tag on something they’d have been lucky to get £850 for pre-covid.

That being said it's definitely not a seller's market anymore. I'm seeing nice looking horses with decent grassroots records for sale for quite reasonable money on HQ for months on end now. During/shortly post Covid absolutely anything was being snapped up at extortionate money!

Absolutely no stoppers
Good to hack
Nothing on vet record and clean X-rays

Aaaaaaand…

No silly prices!

The no silly prices ones seriously irritate me! Shorthand for I want literally the perfect horse, but I refuse to accept I need to pay for it.
I am guessing that they do want a horse at a silly price - as in ridiculously low
Perhaps they should have said No realistic prices

Someone looking for a share for her 2 Horses. 1 that can't be ridden and an unbacked pony. Must do all jobs on their days and in return they can spend time on the ground with the Horses. Not too bad for someone who doesn't want to ride but wants Horsey time. BUT they also want you to pay for your days

They should be paying the sharer, not the other way round

Pony club camp maybe - I saw another ad asking if anyone would lend a pony just for this. Not totally unreasonable, but a long shot.

It's a very long shot! I might lend a friend a pony never a randomer on FB.

Even more optimistic was the person looking to borrow a horse for the weekend for Man V Horse! Sure, random stranger, take my horse and hammer it over steep rocky terrain for miles at speed in the Welsh Hills!

Someone wanting to loan an under 12yo saint for a teenager to hack, do farm rides, and it must be comfortable at 110+ with scope for more. it won’t be hammered, they have lessons and it’s a good home, so definitely a great opportunity if you have an incredibly valuable unicorn to give it to someone to use for free, possibly damage then hand back as no more use. 👍

Tangentally related to Facebook, but on the subject of lending horses to strangers, I recently sold a saddle on the marketplace to a lady.
When she collected, she was lamenting about how no-one on her local horsey groups would lend her a horse for an event, and how awful they all are, so she ended up buying her own horse.
That event?
The Golden Horseshoe, aka 160km over two days.

I could only smile and nod politely, but in my head I was thinking 'Well duh, if someone's put all the time and effort into training their horse for such an event, they're A. Going to want to ride it themselves, and B. Not entrust their pride and joy to some randomer over facebook!'.

I'm seeing an increasing number of for part loan/looking for share ads that specify 'must be experienced rider under 11stone' when the pics of them riding said horse are quite the opposite...
I saw one yesterday for loan/sale that the owner had outgrown. The picture was of the owner (ok I'm assuming, here) on the horse of about 14.3, very much overweight. I mean, technically she's correct in saying overgrown, but it did make me giggle. I'm certainly going to remember that turn of phrase when I next pile on the pounds.

I have a friend whose horse is called Brexit
She doesn't call him that at home though!

You've made try to think of good pet names made from Brexit. Sorry, I think the majority turned out to not be good.

Bret. Brit. Bex. Bet. Bit. Rex. RT as in Artoo without the D2 ending. Ex. ET. Xerxes. Xeb. It. Iter.

Just seen a fresh out of racing, with tendon injury that needs 12 months rest. £2500.....

It must not have fashionable bloodline as it would go for 10k plus in the bloodstock sales if it did.
That's insane- I'm not in the thoroughbred world, but I'm slightly disappointed that they're keen to breed from horses that have gone wrong so young. (I might be wronging these people and perhaps it was a freak accident that has lamed her, but...)
I suppose it's the same as anywhere else though, there are a lot of unsuitable animals that get bred from 😕
