Just saw a college advertising they want horses for loan
Over 14.2
Between 5-15
Jumping 90cm+
With flat work show jumping and xc experience

Am I the only on that thinks that’s a bit much? Like a horse like that would go for great money I defo wouldn’t loan to a college could be ridden by anyone
There is the one near me who advertises similar but instead is livery (£275 full livery) rather than loan I think and owners can come up and ride whenever with notice beforehand

Though I'd never want to send a horse to a college!

So they get paid to use your horse? 😮
Yes but full livery round her is over £1,000 a month so you are not getting such a bad deal, the college toppdoff is thinking of is one near me I think! My friend keeps her horse there and she only probably gets ridden about once or twice a week so they are not hammered and only the experienced students and staff ride her, they are really well looked after and it suits my friend as she has 3 kids so can't go everyday and doesn't want to do the looking after.

Yep, you know the one! I believe it's second years of the level 3 course who ride 🤔 it won't work for everyone glad it works for your friend!

Spotted on Fb today

FOR FULL LOAN
MUST STAY ON CURRENT YARD
secrion A yearling gelding

My yearling is sadly looking for a loan with me working 5 days a week. will NEVER BE FOR SALE.
he’s good to do in all ways.
never silly for himself.
he’s competed in local in hand completions
still needs to work on his feet being picked up
he can be hard to catch when he doesn’t know u at first but with food persuasion he will always come.
he loves his fusses and grooming.
i would like someone that has knowledge with young horses. children are welcome but with adult supervision at all times.
welcome to come out competing but please let me know as i do compete him myself (in hand)
financial contribution required

I saw this. Must not comment, must not comment...

I've noticed an increase in posts saying
"Vet has been but didn't know what it was " and then photos of a horse with juvenile warts and other one with a possible ligament injury.
These people were the ones that previously would have been told to call the vet. Now they think they're clever by claiming that a vet has been but doesn't know what it is. As if!!

For goodness sake , just get your vet out! And if you can't afford essential health care , you shouldn't have a horse !

There's a USA based vet group on Fb, mainly vet students giving advice
Does make me worried

I sent my boy to a college on loan when I was going through a messy divorce a few years ago. He was all the above and I didn’t want to be messed around with loaners etc and couldn’t afford to keep him. He absolutely hated it there and only lasted six months. They had the cheek to tell me there was something wrong with him but a few months away and he was the same horse I dropped him off as!

There is a generic theme to a lot of posts...
......."Looking for an amazing horse that must be good in all ways, under 6 years old but experienced in all ways, perfect horse, £1000 budget"......
People comment...... " You will need to more realistic, maybe up your budget, look at older horses etc".....
Then comes along the commenters... "Rubbish, your soul mate is out there somewhere.....I bought my horse for £2.75 and it went round Badminton 6 times and won the puissance at HOYS"

They don't help anyone, and yeh its could you bought Valegro for 26p but its unlikely that (normally a novice) first time horse owner will come across that. It not helpful and completely pointless to post and just encourages unrealistic expectations.

When we won the National last year with a horse that cost £17,000 at the sales (and trust me that's cheap!) Another trainer wrote on their their blog afterwards "great for the north... blah blah blah ... I looked at him at the sales and could have bought him if I wanted to" well why didn't you!?!? 17k would have been pennies their pocket! Anyone could have bought him for that price 😂😂😂

There's a farmer locally, who tells anyone who'll listen how clever he was to buy a ram for 50 quid that turned into an all singing, all dancing, show winning something or other (it varies depending how many drams he has inside him). What he doesn't talk about is the other dozens he buys that are indeed the sh1te they were priced as.

It's rare to pick up one as good so cheap. He was a 6yo that had ran 5 times in ptp's without winning so realistically he wasn't worth any more at the time. Scu liked him because of his face markings and if he won a few races round Kelso and Perth then he was worth it. Instead he worked out way way way better! But in terms of Racehorses he was cheap and this particular trainer could have afforded to buy multiple horses for 6 figures.
