I once got 80% off an advertised price for a horse with issues purely from chancing my luck. If someone is prepared to be candid they might get a good bargain... or they might get a duffer. Which is fine at £500, not so much at 3.5k unless it's a mare with exceptional breeding! Reminds me of the Connie that was on HQ ages ago, it was lame and they didn't know why but the asking price was £5,000 which is just mind boggling.

Not a private individual- they're a business offloading . As usual I Googled the phone number -

[........] - xyz Farm is a specialized young horse training facility located in the scenic Derbyshire Dales. Run by [... and ...], the farm offers services such as breaking, backing, long-reining, and addressing behavioral issues in young horses.

Here at [..] Young Horse Specialists we predominantly offer long-reining, backing and breaking. We also offer the option of a two-week assessment to have horses that are already broken and are displaying concerning behaviour, or where owners are looking for a second opinion on a horse.
We are very passionate about giving young horses the best start to their life, and believe doing ‘something’ earlier rather than later is the main ingredient to producing a well-rounded, confident horse for the future, that is able adapt to new environments, competitions, clinics and stay away shows etc.

Can't afford the vet indeed! XC course, 2 schools, round pen, gallops, stable bigger than my house.

They may not own it and the unreasonable price might be coming from whoever does. They may have agreed to advertise it to prove to the owner that it will not sell at that price.

Broodmares with great bloodlines, already in foal to fab stallions, are going for less than that right now. There is NO market for an empty maiden mare as a broodmare. So they need to sell at 'NQR, might come good' price. And the buyer knows they are either wasting a grand plus work-up/rehab costs or gaining a fab little horse for a lot less than market price. It has to be 'take a punt' price. So if anyone is seriously interested, then I think it would be worth contacting them with a very low offer. At the moment is is a hard sell, to a limited market, at the wrong time of year, and probabley costing a lot in livery bills and feed.

TB gelding, 6 year old
no health issues and clean limbs. Has raced.
does not want to be loved and cared for, he pulls quite the faces in the stable ... well in general. Although, does have moments where he puts his teeth away and enjoys a hug when no one is looking. Obviously so he doesn't ruin his street status.
He needs flat work but knows all basics and his leads.
Saint to hack perfect in heavy farm traffic.
knows very very little about jumping but super honest so far
He actually really seems to enjoy work once he’s tacked up and on the go
Nice horse for someone who's not terrified of a challenge. He’s just gone sour and got away with far too much but once you know him you don’t even notice him pulling a face.
He does wind suck. Absolutely no beginners even though he’s safe and quiet he would just get away with to much.

This horse sounds like he’s in so much pain and absolutely done with people
But.... with a sensible, knowledgeable owner who is prepared to chuck him out for 6 months and then see what's going on he could be a corker - I'd punt £500 on him...I once had a totally sour SJ horse I bought for £600 who turned out to be the most super safe reliable hack ever - just hated jumping, so did I so no issue, sadly lost her when she got cancer of the left eye and started showing signs in the right but we had some amazing hacks together.

I would definitely agree but they seem to be selling him as a riding horse in the low 4 figures

Maybe I’m grumpy but I hate ads from the pov of the horse! Especially soppy, ‘my mummy is very sad, I love cuddles’ type stuff. And even more irritated by it when said horse is 5 figures and the only pic is a head over a door, and the only info about the horse is ‘I like a bit of everything’. I mean who arranges to view in the basis of that nonsense!

More Vinted specials... hunt coat with mud spattered all up the back which, when you add in delivery, Vinted fee, and a dry clean, is approaching the price of a brand new version of the same jacket (of over £200!)

Or...£50 for an absolutely filthy tweed hacking jacket with a hole in the armpit.

Bargains ahoy!

Eta - I did just pick up my latest order which was a silk stock tie and actually was a bargain for £10 :D

I'll raise you £55 for a pair of wellies with a hole in!

Seen on horsey FB group, apparently they "can be fixed with waterproof glue". Yes, they were an expensive brand but wellies with a hole in are totally pointless! I couldn't help myself and had to comment and the ad was then deleted.

I never understand why people sell things that say “needs a wash”… ok do it then!!! And I don’t mean rugs that need a professional clean, that’s fair enough…I’m talking about clothes, saddle pads, stuff that could easily go in the washing machine 🙄

Twitter this time rather than Facebook!

So if he's being tested for HYPP he has Impressive in his breeding. The first horse to have it and still bred from many years later, even when it was well documented that his offspring had a 50/50 chance of having HYPP. Some idiot used him 15 years after his death to breed my QH cross, who "thankfully" only ended up with PSSM2.

These double muscled "halter bred" QHs are mutant enough, why would you knowingly breed from a PSSM1 positive horse!!!

To loan, preferably long term.
(Potential Lwvtb for the perfect horse)
Around 16hh, safe and sane ride for mum and (xyz) to share.
To hack, lightly school and accompany me on outings.
The following requirements are a must:
Be suitable for a novice adult to progress on (Canter, very small jumps)
Travel on the left in a trailer
Have ground manners and respect fencing
Safe to hack
Turnout with my easy going mare
We don’t mind older and have no preference to looks/breed. However, please no health issues or vices!

I'd like one of those free too, please!

To be fair I think there are a fair few of this type of horse knocking about - probably older who aren't really up to much of a job but not ready to retire. That being said it would be more realistic if the 'No health' issues bit was removed, otherwise they're searching for THE perfect horse!

That's pretty much what I'll be looking for when I'm back in the saddle, and the forum assured me that I'd have no problems finding one on loan.

That said, I'm looking for a hand or so smaller, I'm not so fussed about a few health niggles that need to be nursed along, and I'll be looking via word of mouth rather than FB.

I find it odd that they say 'my horses love to be awkward and make things harder for me' which is anthropomorphising and not very enlightening. It sounds like a disinterested owner with three bored, under-handled horses who have started to play up when taken out as it's exciting to finally leave the field, with an owner who will want to take over a lot of the riding when the summer comes. It just sounds a bit sad that three horses have ended up with an owner who seems to resent them for ~6 months of the year.

I may have just interpreted the tone wrong though.
