Xxxx is the nicest mannered girl you could ever hope for. Easy to do everything with. Will stand for hours to be groomed. Will lead for miles with kids aboard. Calms the most nervous of people.
Stands 13.2hh looks more 14hh, chunk of a mare. She’s approx 15 yr old and does have some arthritis in her offside knee so shows slight lameness in trot.
I love this mare but cannot keep them all
6 🥕 🥕

To my mind the strange / sad thing about this one is that there doesn't seem to have been any attempt to treat the arthritis (although I've no idea how straightforward, or not, knee arthritis is to tackle). If it was under control and well managed then 600 quid for a confidence giving light hack sounds alright.

I just despair about the state of horsemanship and expectations by what seems to be a significant majority. It seems they want to pay £10 a week for full livery and £100 for a three day eventer with riding lessons thrown in. And god help any yard owner who makes a profit. How evil that is. Unbelievable.

Yard owners still have to pay their staff though, what about national insurance contributions personal insurance for working with horses sick leave etc. 🤷

And so many people want a perfect unicorn…forever. For the lead rein and first pony and second pony x every height increase. What happened to teaching children to ride?

Incidentally, I saw an ad today that made me smile…it was describing a New Forest part bred, honestly, and every quirk listed was just…the epitome of the New Forest breed!
- Bolshy on the ground with a novice;
- Tendency to buck when excited/bored;
- Can get fizzy out hacking;
- Prefers someone to be confident and in charge if being asked to hack solo or is spooky and unhappy.

Someone commented that the ad sounded just like their New Forest! I find them endearing in their cheekiness, but can see why others don’t!

Just seen an advert looking for someone to work five hours a day, five days a week, in return for food and bedroom.
There is a limit to the amount that can be knocked off the n.m.w. for accommodation of £9.99 a day I believe, certainly not the approx £60 per day they should be paying.

I think its £62 a week, but there must be a way round it as I see ads like this all the time, asking for skilled carpenters or landscapers or people to do hard manual labour and you get a spot to park your van, or a stay in grotty accommodation and people go and do it.

People will do it if they employ vulnerable people that do not know but if they are getting less than new taking the accommodation into account they should contact HMRC.

Examples of wage calculations for accommodation.

WANTED

2.0l + SUV with tow bar suitable for pulling horse trailer - must have mot and solid chassis.

Around £1000

I'd like one too please 🤣🤣🤣
I’ll take two.

Also seen multiple horses recently advertised for 2k plus. That are young horses with vet issues. Most recently this one is bad to load. Known to rear. Issues when they attempted to ride. Known to rear. Impairments apparently. Doesn’t pick his feet up. 5yo. But he free jumps 1.45. 💀👀

I remember years ago going to see a horse with temperament issues, after they’d had X-rays, scope and physio, and she was £250. And that was purely to stop the chances. I decided against her as I had one aggressive beast already, but it seems nowadays we pay money to inherit people’s problems? Think I’ve had enough FB today already.

I saw that one 🤦🏼‍♀️

I also saw someone advertising 2 horses needing a share. Both were coming back from injuries (I’m not judging this) so 1 could walk only and the other was 5 minutes max trot/canter. Riders must be no heavier than 9 stone. (also probably fair enough for horses with injuries) The best part was “ contribution required.”

So they want a very lightweight experienced rider to rehab their horse and they get to pay for that honour.

A few years ago these would have sold for meat money perhaps meat money is £2k now?

I saw an advert on facebook for two old retired horses looking for a new home after their owner died. I recognised the name of the owner and he was a friend of a friend. What I find annoying is that he knew he was dying (elderly with Parkinson's) and sorted out for his artwork to be donated to a local museum but didn't plan anything for his horses. Now his daughter is trying to find a home for two "inseparable" elderly horses that only need "some space, a little attention and to be together". How many good homes are there about like that. I took on an elderly horse as a companion, but I can't imagine many people wanting two...

I've seen someone advertising a 3yo trakhener gelding for sale for £2500, unbroken and has a sight impairment so not taking well to being a ridden horse - but worth 2.5k because of his exceptional breeding and because the lady paid 3K for him...

Plenty of comments on the post finding this baffling!
I saw that one, someone asked if it had been ridden as the advert said it had been on Jack's but the poster replied saying in hand hacks.

Just realised I quoted and typed nothing 😆😆

I am always amazed about people who write an ad for a 6k+ plus horse where you’d need to make compromises on the cheap end expect it for free/cheap or to be able to put all the conditions and risk on the seller! There are unicorns and very special sellers out there but they are a rarity not the norm.

Having been helping a friend find a horse with a medium budget we’ve gone into it with a mentality that there will be things we need to compromise on! 🙃 and a list of things we won’t! But the market is a minefield these days, but these wanted ads always give me a laugh.

Seller…usual ‘I want a unicorn’ with a very long, very specific list of criteria that would add up to in excess of £6k - probably £6.5-8k.

Ad is reposted monthly or more for nearly a year, then mysteriously the seller begins to post ‘anonymously’ - leaving the previous ads online with the very very specific wording that makes it abundantly clear who they are.

Someone suggests they might need to up their budget as previous ads stated budget lower than those types go for.

Poster explodes in a fit of shouty anger.

Ok then…I guess I know now why you haven’t found anything and are needing to post anonymously.

Hi all,

Is there anyone out there looking to help out at a small private yard with 6 ponies.
Many people about who are more than happy to teach you the basics including stable management, yard duties and horse care. Looking for someone anyday(s) of the week, just really want someone who’s willing to dedicate their time to make sure the ponies are happy.
Recently got lights installed so there is light for evenings.

Looking for general yard duties to be done including:
-mucking out / skipping out.
-in summer poo pick field (not massive)
-make some Haynets.
-rugs put on if need be.
-opportunity to be around, and groom the ponies if wanting too.
-wash hooves/legs if muddy.
-pick out hooves.
-bring in /put out in field if asked too.

Yard has a range of ages however not looking for someone too young in case there’s a day no one else can get up to help. Most of the time there is usually at least one person who will be up willing to help.

Not looking for a financial contribution more looking for a contribution of your time and effort. Lovely ponies and people to be around.

📍Hastingwood, Harlow Essex.

If you have any questions please feel free to pm me 🙂

To be fair most stables have teenage kids (including mine!) hanging round to offer free help in the hope of some pony-access.... Mine eventually got paid the princely sum of £1 an hour for their time.
