Oh and I also can't be the only one who gets second hand annoyance when someone posts a looking for post, then the seller posts their horse and then 3 people reply to the seller "price and location pls"

You wouldn't believe the number of people who message us about horses leaving training asking if they are suitable for novices/mother daughter shares etc.

A group 1hr lesson at my nearest school is £40. The good school is £45 and they’ve got a waiting list. So not quite double the price of the local one, you can ride 5 days a week and probably do more interesting stuff than a group flatwork lesson as well. That seems pretty decent to me even if the horse isn’t top flight.

£75 a week plus chores just seemed high to me.

People who reply "PM me" to a post advertising something. If you want it, how about you pm me.
I don't understand why people do it, and it gives me the rage!

The owner is only getting 1 day a week though. So if you do 6x15 that is £90 per week, £360 a month. There is no way the horse costs less than that to keep, even on DIY. So the £15 a day is just the horse’s costs split evenly between sharer and owner.

Dont know where in the country you are but it is very possible to keep a horse for less than that a month if on DIY.

Mine is on 5 day full livery and costs me £360 a month including feed and a trim.

This is astoundingly cheap. DIY livery around here is £160 per month, and hay will cost around £100, add in shoes and feed, and you are easily up to £360 without irregular items.

Well in Hertfordshire it would be closer to £1,000 a month for full livery, my friend pays more than you a month for her horse to be on working livery at a college up the road from me.

Its at one of the most expensive yards in the area. So not cheap for my area.
£320 a month for 5 day full livery.
£30 every 8 to 10 weeks for a trim
£30 for feed every 3 to 4 months. (Chaff and a bag of balancer).

No way what 😨 like pinkvboots, in Hertfordshire, I envy your prices. I've known a few yards are upping their prices to 200-225 for DIY but that's more near towards royston I'm pretty sure
 
20 years ago, in Hertfordshire, it cost me £350 a month DIY all-in (farrier, insurance, feed, bedding, wormer, yearly vaccs plus a small budget for replacement tack/feed bowls etc). I was in my first job, budgeting carefully. Horse was a 15hh TB. I cannot believe it’s gone down, given that hay was £3 a bale and straw £1.50 at the time!

Im not in Hertfordshire, I’m South Yorkshire. It was even cheaper when I was in East Yorkshire.
 
Maybe I’m just asking very low contribution. £20 a week for 2 days, horse is on 7 day full livery so no chores. I guess it is just what works for people. My sharer has just given up hence my musings

ETA someone commented wondering if he was suitable to bring on to event…. At that price I very much doubt it.

That is very low. I pay £20 a week for 2 days with all jobs on those days and I thought that was cheap! Without jobs even more so.

Wow easily double or treble that for full or part livery in my area.

Do you have good off road hacking, a lit school with good surface, and good well draining all year turn out too for your £360?
