"A show organiser won't refund my entry fees when I couldn't attend because my son was ill. This is unfair and the organisers are holding people over a barrell.
Am I unreasonable wanting my entry fee back ?"

Wtaf? Imagine if shows refunded everyone who just decided not to turn up ?
Yes , you are being unreasonable and very entitled!

I refund if its before the closing date of entries. After that I will only allow ponies to swopped or classes swopped before the catalogue is sent to print. Once the catalogue is in that's it. No more changes.

Wow easily double or treble that for full or part livery in my area.

Do you have good off road hacking, a lit school with good surface, and good well draining all year turn out too for your £360?
Yes, we have nearly 600 acres we can hack round on the farm and several bridle paths with only a small amount of road work.

We have a fully lit school with sand and rubber surface, a lunge pen with sand surface currently being built, a full set of showjumps and some working hunter jumps too.

We have all year round brilliant properly rotated grazing. There have been 3 days this winter that they haven’t gone out and thats because the yard was icy and slippy. Having good grazing is part of the reason my feed bills are so low. He gets a mug full of balancer and a handfull of chaff to stop him bolting it.

We also have a dry bark turnout for horses that can’t go out on grass, a hot wash area, washing machine for horsey goods at £1 a load, really fantastic unlimited hay and unlimited straw.

There are only 12 (absolutely massive) stables so not too much in the way of yard politics.

Pretty much the only things we don’t have are a solarium and an XC course

As i said, its one of the more expensive ones in the area and the facilities reflect that.

My fat little native has recently been spending the night in his stable, the morning on grass and the afternoon on bark with hay to reduce any lami risk as he can’t yet do serious exercise (damaged tendons)

20 years ago, in Hertfordshire, it cost me £350 a month DIY all-in (farrier, insurance, feed, bedding, wormer, yearly vaccs plus a small budget for replacement tack/feed bowls etc). I was in my first job, budgeting carefully. Horse was a 15hh TB. I cannot believe it’s gone down, given that hay was £3 a bale and straw £1.50 at the time!
It's so expensive here now

No way what 😨 like pinkvboots, in Hertfordshire, I envy your prices. I've known a few yards are upping their prices to 200-225 for DIY but that's more near towards royston I'm pretty sure
I keep mine at home but my round bales were £30 in January they ran out so now I'm paying £50 and some places I rang want £70😩

I’m looking for someone (very competent) to ride my horse for 2, maybe 3 weeks for me please whilst my back tries to rest/recover before Windsor.
Will be hacking (walk, some trot) and schooling (some canter). I cannot pay so would suit someone capable who wants to ride.
I’ll be there to get him tacked up and on foot in the school, and you can hack him on his own or with someone from the yard. Can also ride side saddle if you want.
Sorry but NO joy riders or nervous/novice.
He isn’t a novice ride and can be quirky in the school.
Would be Tuesday’s/Thursday’s weekdays after 5:30-6pm and weekends to suit you.

——
I know it says they can’t pay but surely this is where getting a freelance rider would come in? I doubt any “very competent” rider would want to do it for free?

If I were looking, I’d be more than interested.

I wouldn’t mind as it’s literally just show up and ride but the fact that they would be watching me while I ride in the arena with me would just put me on edge a bit. Depends how controlling they are while I’m riding

I'm sure there could be several riders of the very competent type they're looking for who would be very interested in this offer, the problem is that I presume they will be outnumbered by the riders trying to hide their unsuitability, and overestimate their suitability.
Unless they're very lucky, and just happen to quickly find one of the right riders, I presume it will be more hassle than it's worth to try to find one who can do it for free.

Well in Hertfordshire it would be closer to £1,000 a month for full livery, my friend pays more than you a month for her horse to be on working livery at a college up the road from me.
I enquired at a few yards in Hertsfordshire (I live here aswell), full livery at one was 1500!!!

So now I do DIY...

Someone in my local group looking for a sharer for a 3 year old horse.
"Must be experienced in backing and bringing on". They also want money !
So they want someone to pay them to come and back and produce their horse for them! 🤣
