Well, here's the nasty big pit being used by my JRT as a pillow

fatrussellusingbarneybraindeadasapi.jpg

Lovely photo! What a softy. I have a staffie cross too, don't know what he's crossed with but something a bit bigger than a staffie. Sometimes people look at him fearfully in public or even say horrible things about him being "a nasty dog" in my hearing. Just because of how he looks.

Hardly surprising, when you see the tabloid press stories about "devil dogs"....

All very well but look at it from another POV, if your 6yr old child had been attacked by a Pitbull type dog in a public park and had months of reconstructive surgery and years of trauma would you not be more wary of this type of dog ?

Exactly whatt happened to my husband unfortunately

Awesome awesome dogs. But not great pets. We get lots into the rescue and i recently fostered a blind girl (still thinking about adopting her).
Intense, noisy, great workers and they need to work a lot.
The merle x merle is what is causing the deaf and or blind dogs same as it does in other breeds.

But don't you think thats the same with every breed of dog.
I had 24 stitches last year from a lab that launched at me and Abe from his yard.
The dog i was mauled by as a child was a poodle.

Maybe we should ban those also?

Or maybe we should promote responsible ownership just a crazy out there suggestion.

I'm so sorry to hear that. Your poor husband. I think I'd probably be wary of all dogs after that, but I can understand your feelings.

Sadly I think it's often down to the owners, rather than the type of dog. There are a lot of lads wanting to "look hard" who choose bull breeds for all the wrong reasons. Most of them aren't dog lovers, they just want the image.

Sadly, I don't think there are any easy answers.

Rescue policy! I can only post pictures once they are in their new homes.
They take in lots of cases from court proceedings and i cant post any pictures that could locate where the rescue is or where their foster homes are.

I shall be fostering for the SPCA in a few months time so prepare to be bombarded with pictures.

Im sorry about your husband but unfortunately its the numptie owner who dosnt socialise and train their dog who are the real culprits in this. My own breed of dog in the wrong hands would be just as capable as doing as much damage but luckily they are no longer fashionable with this type of owner.

If my child or family member was attacked by any particular breed of dog I would be naturally wary around them especially if being walked by one of those morons.

Two years ago I went along to the local dog charity kennels, looking for a new dog. I had an idea of the type I wanted (Lakeland/border/JRT type) and was shocked at what I found. 75% of the dogs there were staffies, staffie crosses or similar. More of this type of dog were coming in almost daily. I later realized this is a country-wide problem.

I felt so sorry for these mostly perfectly lovely dogs (some end up in kennels for years) that I chose one of them to have. He's a handful, but then so were my previous rescued dogs who were quite different types. He's not dangerous, just insecure because he was abandoned.

There is no doubt that far more of these dogs are bred than there are homes. I think people believe they'll make money by breeding and selling and the unwanted dogs end up in the slammer, or neglected and untrained and in trouble.

Responsible dog-ownership's needed, yes, and an end to indiscrimate breeding. I don't know how that's going to be acheived though.

Just recently on FB there has been a group wanting to flaunt their Stud Dogs in bull terriers. Now this, my breed,is beginning to feel the "staffie/fighting dog " effect, good homes are very hard to find, puppies are being offered at only 400.00,less than half price to last year.Result ,I piped up on FB that in my opinion only the very best health tested show types should be bred at the moment ,as the market is flooded. There are a lot of four/five/six month olds out there needing homes.
Personally I will not be breding my big bullies at all till it improves,as yet the minis don`t have that image and stil are in demand from good homes.
What was the reaction ?.."I want it all to myself, plenty of homes ,talking rubbish" I give up,no point in trying to guide these numpties is there?
In fact one even went as far as an abusive phone call..would`nt tell me her name,so discontinued the conversation..but was so stupid it did`nt with hold it`s landline number!!:D:D:D
None so deaf as those that don`t want to hear.:(

^^This^^ The owners of Lennox fall into the numpty owners group too. There must be hundreds of 'a certain type' of dog called Lennox then there's hundreds called Tyson. My own rescued EBT was named after a big tough boxer too, until we changed his name. The d**k that owed him before was a meat head body builder. It's a pity they can't neuter and spay the owners.

Lennox's owners are not numpties. His owner is a former vet nurse and he was neutered, licensed, microchipped, insured and DNA tested, leashed and muzzled when walked and kept behind a secure fence BEFORE he was impounded. The family also has a yorkie and a boxer and foster for rescue. They have been through hell. Think/read before you type.

Cc maybe the owners should think about how they portray themselves a little better then as they certainly come accoss as lacking in intellegence with some of the comments made and have also lied in court initially.

Honestly Cally, you'd be surprised :) they are not thick, tattoed, scumbags, they are articulate, animal loving people.
Ceding a point made by the prosecution is not lying in court.
The dock can be an incredibly intimidating place.
Hopefully it will come out in the wash (it is still a live court case, let's remember) but yes, there were lies told about this dog.

Also, (if the newspaper article is to be believed) the owners told someone Lennox would "tear your head off". My dog has NEVER snarled at anyone, even when in pain at the vets. He sometimes gets overexcited in his desire to play, and when he does, I control him and apologize to anyone alarmed by the look of him (staffie cross).

I'd never tell anyone he'd tear their head off, because he wouldn't, and because it's just asking to have your dog taken off you.

Neither would I give him a name which suggests a fighter.
