It won't it's only if someone goes through a door or window and triggers a censor, we live in a bungalow surrounded by wildlife deers have been our drive and its never triggered an alarm.
but I'm not worried about them coming into the house, I don't really care if they do. It won't be a pleasant experience for them. :D

I'm worried about them being outside (where absolutely no one should be in the night) and harming one of the horses. The dog's ears tell him if there is anyone within the place (where the horses are) and he will let me know where. Waiting to see on CCTV in the morning is not going to be very helpful.

People have opened gates in the night and let farm animals out (for no reason) sheep have been slaughtered on the moor, plenty of places have had break in's to buildings and things stolen. Out in the country doesn't mean safe it just means easier to get away with and no one hears

the house is small but horses are wandering around all 4 sides of it all night. One often stands on the front door step, another on the back door step (or inside if we forget to shut the door) .

If I didn't want my dog to sleep on the bed with me I would ask her to go to her bed, she has one in the bedroom and one downstairs next to my chair that she uses during the day (she is in there now :)).

Well yes it was a bit OTT but you seem very against dogs having stuff dictated to them.

I don't know why my relationship with my dogs past and present should cause you concern but it seems to.

I had a houseful of happy, well behaved dogs living in harmony. Big girl, dog number 11, is a happy and well mannered dog. Where do you feel I've gone wrong?

Presumably if their dogs were used to having free run they were used to that way of living. If yours were crated they simply were not accustomed to that.

As a matter of interest why do you crate them overnight? if they are house dogs surely they have the run of the house in the day so why not at night or at least loose in the living room.. Just curious as to why people crate overnight.

Afraid I hate to see dogs crated overnight. (unless one was in a hotel room etc)
We crated the Labs as puppies so that they didn't annoy/get squashed by the Rottweiler, or chew anything they shouldn't. They love their crate which they share(it was big enough for 2 x adult Rotts although they actually had 2 joined together to make a double with an adjoining doorway.). The rehomed brown one was a pup when she came here and really didn't want to be crated by herself, so she has one half of the double and the others have the other half. Currently, Daycare Dog is staying with us, she is in one side while the older Labs sleep on the sofa. They are quite miffed at being shut out of their crate! But they won't damage anything while the younger pair very well might.
