Fancy new products don’t always work!!

Have you ever used a haas schimmel brush - i was a total sceptic but its a marvel (cleans all colours though not just greys)

No I've never felt the need, stains don't bother me that much and I find a damp sponge very effective without the elbow grease. The only light coloured horse I've "needed" clean since Haas were launched hated being brushed.

Haas aren't the only maker of Coir brushes.

Yes love the Schimmel! Yes I think people think I’m saying that the brushes are just for one coat colour. But I’m saying some are made specifically to help clean certain coat types but obviously can be used on any!

I’ve just had a look at Haas brushes as I’ve never given them much thought. Blimey, £100+ quid for a set of 4 brushes!
For that I’d be expecting a little minion to pop out the box everytime and groom my horses for me!
Yes I definitely understand why people are sceptical about them, I think if you are lucky enough to be able to afford them they are great and I truly think with a bit of love grease they make a difference but there’s nothing to say £5 brushes don’t do the same thing if you work at it

I wonder if we could correlate levels of cynicism on this thread by whether and for how long people worked in marketing 🤪 ?
.

Can’t speak for others, but marketing isn’t what motivates me to try new products. I’m looking for recommendations from my saddler / physio/ trainers / peers. Recommendations that the products lead to actual benefits.

I think mine were less in 2017 but even £25 a brush, in great condition 6 years later. Should get over 10 years usage (if not more). So £2.50 or less a brush a year!

Oh gosh! How is it? Is it shock absorbing?
Oh, don't know, it hasn't come out of the packaging yet except to get stroked a couple of times. It's all lovely new sheepskin, too nice to use on the horse ;)

It's just a fully lined, edged, sheepskin saddle pad, but split and shaped as Reactor Panel booties. Glad I'm not alone in thinking the price is kind of spectacular though!

I think I paid about £60 for 5 brushes, the curry comb in a box, probably about the same time. But I did what I always try to do, buy quality in a sale

The only other thing I use is a super groomer for caked mud on the face.

Strange thread but I'll bite...
Yes there are alot of over priced, cleverly marketed items out there that will do nothing to enhance your riding or the horses' well being etc...but most of those won't do any harm either. We have come a long way since the days of jute rugs and the like, we have lovely new materials and designs that are helpful to us and much nicer for the horse. I like my tack to be simple ss possible bit appreciate the fact that there are many different technologies now that means I can change how I do things according to what my boys need...such as bits that are kinder in the mouth, girths that are more comfortable, comfortable saddle pads and so on. Every day is a school day and we have to be prepared to learn and adapt to suit what's needed. I'm a cheapskate when buying for myself but do the best I can to ensure my boys are kitted out in the most comfortable tack and rugs I can afford, alot of the time this means buying more expensive brands second hand. A nice quality bridle might not make me ride better but it will make things nicer for my horse and that's what's important to me personally.

and the latest food designed to promote "top line"..

I have never understood how people believe this and it works as a marketing method.. as a human there is no one food you can eat that will magically put muscle on your body in exactly the places you want it. So why would horses be any different?
Albeit there is added lysine and it's got higher protein most likely, but if you don't do the correct work it's still just going to make your horse fat!

For that money you could get several actual sheep…….

I remember, not so long ago, Baileys and their very ill advised campaign to promote top line conditioning cubes as ‘haven’t got time to groom, feed this and you horse will be so shiny you won’t need to’

I took to social media about that one (and I wasn’t the only one) and they pulled it pretty quickly!

What on earth were they thinking??

Health shops are full of special powders to build muscles so not just horses.

Wishful thinking!! I'm supposed to be at a show on Sunday and it rained last night and I now own a bog monster whose white stockings are a distant memory!!

Maybe I need magic brushes :D Actually if they came with a minion to get the hooligan clean I'd be buying.

Or how old people are 🤣
Absolutely!
Watching your idols and wanting the same "stuff" as them would be something most people would manage to grow out of by, what- their late teens at the latest ? So that eliminates most people old enough to be on here without lying about their age.
Being susceptible to marketing would have an older cynicism cut off, depending how many riding years you'd managed fine without the product.
By the time you get to my age I'd guess most people are of the "if it aint broke don't fix it" persuasion. I love 😍 new technology but I'd go looking for it to solve a specific problem.
At the far end of the scale, you wouldn't get total luddites in an internet discussion room, presumably.

I use the sweeping brush when horses are really dirty, means that I don't have to bend to reach under their bellies, plus I am farther away from breathing the dust in
