HHO horsey weekend, a musing!

I'd be interested, where exactly in the country are you thinking? I wouldn't bring a horse but would have to bring the dog :)

PS if you're cooking JS I'm definitely in!

I have a few venues in mind, top of the list currently is Cricklands, but I am going to get dates for a few a little further north. If people want this, I will do more and see which is best.

Dogs will be allowed wherever it is as I'll be bringing mine :)

Cooking - cakes and treats are a given, If the numbers were small, could be fun to bring the smoker and BBQ and get Dan to do it all, lol. Big numbers though and it would need some thought but this would not be about that, I'd be happy with people bringing camping stoves or whatever...there will be options for food to keep everyone happy. :)

Ok that's do-able I think (Gatwick area) :) I'm still definitely interested, would it be worth setting up a WhatsApp/Facebook group?

I would be interested depending on costs. Am in Essex as well, so could possibly take one of the horses if somebody wanted to share travelling costs. Am only a happy hacker though.

Firstly, I'm in awe of you that you have held up your hand to organise this. Having organised events myself in the past, I know what you may be letting yourself in for, so thank you for offering and the work you've done thus far.

I'd be really interested in coming. Half of me thinks I'd bring the pony and the other thinks he might be a bit outclassed in that company, being a hairy highland as he is (even if he is a very classy highland, of course!).

So, definitely interested in coming along, either alone or with pony. We're 120 miles away or so, so a bit of a stretch with the trailer, but doable. Add me to the list and I'll watch with interest.

Rightyho :)

Don't worry about being a hairy highlander...The Sunday morning is just an option. ;)

Great idea and sounds worth traveling too - I'm East Anglia. Only got a 3.5 tonner so can only take one horse but do have full HGV licence if anyone wants to share/hire a larger box, Jessie Jingle mentioned needing transport from Essex? My problem is work shifts covering 24/7 and only have 2 days holiday left after booking local(ish) be events which I'd like to use for teams so would all depend on dates not clashing with work.
Good on you though for offering to organise which I know can often be a thankless task.

Transport would be great, how far is it from essex?

South east! :D

I'm not even that, I'm a 'ride around my own field, occasionally braving the road but don't like open spaces' person.
I'm also happy to horse share so if someone wants to take a go at exercising or practicing something then they are welcome to try on Kyra.

I'd be up for this! Horse might have to stay at home unless a) I find transport and b) I find my brave pants to display my riding in front of a bunch of way more competent people!

I would be up for this with or without Levi Ned but if someone's interested in going from Cheshire/north Wales could share transport? May be easier horse free and more of a social?

Sounds like a great fun weekend and I would definately be interested although I wouldn't want to trailer Roberto there but would be happy to pay fuel costs if someone local to me had space to box there (South Beds)
Depends on the dates as I have to work around kids/summer holidays and plans I already have booked.
Another venue that would be good is Bury Farm EC as it has great facilities and stabling. It's close to M1/M25, is fairly central and easy access from the north.

Bury Farm is pretty close to me! I would be thrilled with that :P That's where Monty Roberts does his demos, isn't it?

I would be interested if you decided to do the 'bring a horse' option as have new four year old that needs his ....ummm......horizons broadening! Also, if you don't mind an 'oldie' joining in. Have 6.5 ton lorry so could offer lift to one other from the Warwickshire area.

Can I have that space on your box? I'm also in Warwickshire. I have a new 3.5 year old that could do with a safe but going out and seeing the world experience.

Yep! No probs so long as youngster is an okay traveller by the date of the do and won't kill the box! :) Am happy to do a trial run before hand if you don't have any wheels to try him/her in beforehand. PM me if you want any more info

I'd be interested either with horse if somewhere not too far (bury farm would be very easy for me) or without.

I'd be interested in the bring a horse option depending on cost. Could possibly fit a small horse on the box with mine. Hereford area.

Yes he does and used Roberto for the 'start up' there. It's only 3 miles from me but is used as an international venue now - even the alpaca nationals! Ponies uk, rare breeds, top show jumping and showing.

I thought that was where I saw Roberto! It's about 20 miles from me, so not far at all :)

I'd be interested, but couldn't bring horse as is pretty much retired. Would it be possible to hire/borrow a horse from the centre? I wouldn't want to miss out on the riding fun :)

Waiting to hear back about the facilities. :)

Huge indoor arena, big covered arena, only open on one side, big outdoor arena. Loads of show jumps, all colours and plenty of fillers. Off road hacking round the boundary of the grounds, plus a very comprehensive BE XC course! Jumps from 60cm up to 1,10m I believe.
Stabling available, there are about 20 boxes IIRC.

Very easy to get to, plenty of parking although I don't think there is availability for lorry hook up, but there is a hotel right next door!!

It would be worth phoning them, they're usually pretty open to new ideas, so long as dates don't clash with their events calendar.
