Can't be a shortage here.

I can name at least 8 - 10 that cover my area. We're Staffs/Cheshire border between Newcastle-under-Lyme and Crewe

Well mine are now kept Bookham way were we have a reliable yard farrier but don't know of others locally.
Prior to that we were near J11 M25 and found it very difficult to find a reliable farrier. Lots of farriers but some not even qualified and most pretty useless. Also it's a vast horsey community where mine are kept so all the farriers are very busy. Ours is always booked up well in advance.

not sure how things are now but when i left guernsey a few years ago there were only three and didn't trust any of them. ended up shipping a guy in from jersey when my girl needed remedial work.

suprising number of horses for a small place but could be hard to break into. brilliant place to live though

Interesting that so many people have differing views on Cardiff and the surrounding (Vale of Glamorgan) area. I'd say we have enough. There are 4 different ones that come to my yard and I could name at least another 5 that work in the area. I have only used two of them (who are both great and reliable) though, so couldn't comment about how good the others are.

I'd say there are a lot of farriers in the Cardiff area but they are all busy and so you need to book well in advance, and they can be difficult to get hold of in an emergency, so would that count as a shortage?

Est Dorset, plenty of farriers - but the good ones books are full - fortunately I am on the full book! Phew. Have seen some real crap around in the last year to the point I would say unsafe to ride!
So, in response to your question - could probably do with some more.

Newcastle/Northumberland, some decent/some shocking......no " perfect". As in do a bloody good job and are reliable! Like anywhere the really good ones you either can't get in touch with or won't take new clients on.

I have a fantastically reliable farrier but unless under vet guidance can get a little sloppy, kinda thing, but generally does a pretty good job!

We had our interview in February, had sold the house and most of our possessions and 'Landed' in September the same year!

Bought a farm 2 days later

Took a year to find a decent farrier though.

Orkney Islands. When I lived there we used to have to pay his boat fair and put him up.

Terrible place for lami though and some of the methods were um 'unusual' to say the least

South somerset - IMHO plenty of farriers around BUT not plenty of GOOD ones!! My farrier actualy comes from Dorset, and he does further across the county than me! Wouldnt change him for the world!!

Dorset could probably do with another good one!

We have a few really decent farriers who have totally full books. Means the unlucky rest have to make do with poor shoeing.

Rutland - there are a few farriers around but as others have said a shortage of good reliable ones. We have 5 different farriers come to our yard - I would only use one of them other than my farrier if I had to.

Plenty of horses round here and they all seem to be busy.

My farrier is great!!

Definitely shortage up here Aberdeen/Aberdeenshire.And will say some farriers up here take advantage of that as know clients have very little chance of getting another one.Know a few that just don't bother to turn up on prearranged visits ,don't bother calling to tell you or return calls/answer phone.Think if there was more choice they might try and keep clients '
Thankfully not mine he's great

West Oxfordshire has a real shortage of good or reliable farriers when I lived there last year. There wasn't a single one who was any good or who bothered to turn up at all half the time, let alone on time.

Not many in Shropshire either. Ours comes from somewhere in Staffordshire to do our big yard.
