Hooray a positive at last! aka - I love my Pelham and I'm not afraid to admit it

This has made me laugh. Where are the pics of this bit less wonder. Nope. Just Pelhams and gags. Gods sake. What was the point of her starting

hhhmmm when u put it like that....I will never be able to hear someone saying that they have been riding bareback now without thinking they have a different reason for doing it entirely!

I think you'll find a lot of people find the stirrups very useful for "control" ;) :D

Oh god!!!!! I love it that apparently people on H&H forum dont see their horses according to the FB thread....well at the moment I guess it is always dark when I see Ginge before work and after work- I clearly dont truly love him or treat him properly as I cant be bothered to see him in the light!

I seriously cannot believe how much sex has been talked about on the FB thread...how perculiar?!

Lmao!!!

Should anyone be reading this. Psychoanalyse this....

So, most days, I ride like this, give or take a hat also.....:

Some days, even like this...

But SOME days....

I'm in the double reins....my other horse is in the long shanked roundings [see previous, also ridden with just a rope....] and a pony in a gag. Oh. And yes, we're at a meet.... ;)

Or a double schooling....

And then on other days...I end up like this! No tack at all....

I now realise, my daily riding preference, must be an indicator of something else completely!!! ;) :p

ChristmasSparkles your apparent confusion as to whether you are a 'metal free horse person' or a an abusive person with horses suggests confusion in your sex life.

I conclude that you are, therefore, Bisexual.

She wont be coming back, she has asked to be banned forever lol

That could be my fault as i "accidentally" may have informed tfc of her excessive swearing and sexual references, oh and calling members dipshits:D
She even went to the trouble of quoting the warning on the fb thread, apparently the hho moderators are just as deluded as the rest of us now, bet saying that went down well! Maybe i should ask to join there page, do ya think id be welcome;)?

I bet OP never thought a quick bit success post would turn into a sex thread!!! Even I didn't see that one coming.

I go away and watch grimm for an hour....come back, all hell breaks loose and I get diagnosed I must be bi-sexual due to my differential rising styles with my horses. [Lmfao. All I have to say on that one!!!]

Oh.

My horses too, live out 24/7 and are all barefoot. I don't know what to say to that one....I'm confused. Still. :p

On a serious non-serious note. Thankyou all for such giggles tonight! I honestly had such a **** day and HHO has actually brightened it up tonight with all these silly OTT defensive threads going on! [NO riding at all today! Have a nice bareback gallop planned tomorrow to blow away the cobwebs....dare I say ;) ]

All I can say is I'm glad the posters in question weren't young. To then get comments of that nature for what they choose to put on their ponies! ...Can't say I'd be too pleased as a parent [if I was one..which I'm not. Theoretically speaking!].

Aw, facebook isn't working for me :( I can't read their post.
It's been an enjoyable thread!

However, I am upset that they don't think I love Ned. He's my favourite (Joint favourite, with the dog) being in the world!! Every time I see him, I work to try and make it just a bit easier for him.
It would be lovely for all of us to ride with no tack what-so-ever, but I'm afraid it's not always possible to ride with nothing. You're more than welcome to try with Ned though.

EDIT: Also, I'm so so so sorry to the poster a few pages back, who wrote that awful story about her friend :(
A similar thing could have happened to me. Horse was in a gag, large ring and changed to a pelham (funnily enough!) he just could not be controlled in it and he tanked off towards a low hedge. Had he jumped that hedge, I am 100% certain he wouldn't be here as there was barbed wire just after the landing point. His front hooves would have touched down and that would have been it. Changed it back to the gag and all was well. He was light and easy in the gag, rode at the buckle most of the time, but as the other poster said...something was just wrong with the pelham.

Moral is - use what works with your horse.

Thanks ;) and I'm finding it rather amusing btw

I love my Pelham so much I might actually marry it :)

Errr I dont think that's legal.

Far better to marry it than just be sleeping with it, that would be immoral at the very least.

This has to be the most funniest thread in a while also.

So to get things straight....if we ride in tack and gear, we're in need of a good 'nookie'. If we ride bareback with no extras...then we're clearly satiated?

PMSL.

The irony.

YEAH, there we go, if you see me out riding stark naked and bare back it isn't weight saving, it is because I'm getting enough, Just a winner all round:D

This thread made me laugh :D thanks all for the entertainment, I should have gotten some popcorn, thought I might say to the people who said in some of the older comments about pelhams fitting better due to low pallete and mouth stuff etc.. thats more to do with the mouthpiece, if its the mullen type that your looking for then why not try a simple eggbutt mullen first. And the amount of pressue the pelham exerts is just as bad as hauling on the horses mouth in a snaffle, if so much discomfort is needed to control the horse then I would go back to basics, as I would much rather be able to get the horse to listen to me with little force then upgrade to the next strongest bit

Wow, some of these natural horsemanship people can be so aggressive with their opinions like we're all really abusive, then we see loads of pictures of them with dreaded treed saddles and pelhams, didn't look hard enough to see if they were shod, deary me. Arguing for the sake of arguing!

Hi Everyone, Yes I have just joined the forum today and the first thread that I open and read is this one. To say that I am stunned is an understatement!! I cannot believe the rudeness and bullying from one person, pushing one beliefs down peoples throats does not open the way for a mature and informative discussion.

Like people, horses are all individuals and will prefer different methods, training and devices to be happy - Some horses prefer to be bitless and others can only be bitted, and prefer different styles of bits. It is up to us to read and make the best judgement call on what best suits our horses in the kindest possible way.

My horse prefers Bitless, treeless and is barefoot, but it took 5 years for us to find his happy place. Though this suits him it may not suit another horse. My beliefs and experience may help someone on this forum just as I know that many of you will have something to offer me and my horse.. I am looking forward to many discussions in the future and hopefully a lot less bullying - It is upsetting to see a person that (maybe is) using the same methods as myself, be so closed minded and ruin a healthy discussion by forcing her beliefs on others. Please remember that not all us bitless riders are so closed minded or rude..

Welcome to the forum, interesting to hear of different methods and beliefs.

I would just be yourself on this forum and stick by your beliefs no matter what. There are certain posters who have a pack mentality on here, and that just shows their weakness to be honest.

There are lots of lovely posters and lots of people who will just say exactly what they think, which is what it should be about, rather than ganging up like vultures!

The only time I had to use a pelham, was when my horse took to tanking off on roads, putting us both in danger. This worked for him then, but not needed now, as he doesn't need a strong bit anymore. Correct schooling and him finally 'growing up' (he's 10 now) means he's in a sweet iron bit, frenchlink snaffle.
He's got a way to go still, but he's light in the hands, and improves everyday. This is a Cob x Shire i'm talking about, not a warm blood (just an example)..
He's not been a danger on the road for 4 years now, and that's something i'm really pleased about :)

Confused as to why people get so hung up about pelhams. They are not any more harsh than most bits in the wrong hands. Jointed snaffles can be very severe in the wrong hands.

As for roundings, they halve the action on the curb that would be placed on with a single rein, so actually less harsh than double reins, provided of course the rider is not balancing on the one rein.
