Horse/yard pet hates

No under 18s? I hate little kids who run around screaming and being little kiddish but most people at stables who are under 18 i know are sensible around horses.

*runs off to cause havoc* :)

hmm i have a few lol

People who use your stable for the farrier and dont bother to sweep it up (with shavings down)

People who spin what you say to better themselves

People who turn up to the yard drunk

People who use your stuff like its spares

People who turn there horse out hour early because they couldn't wait when they know your horse doesn't stable alone (nice vet bill)

i could go on lol since i moved to England ( no offence had own land in Scotland) Ive found nothing but bad yards! when Ben comes back im finding a big yard and keeping myself to myself!

The one that gets me more than any other is: rich people who know nothing about horses buying one because "owning horses is what rich people do". We had a neighbour like this: three thoroughly spoiled children who weren't the slightest bit interested in ponies but seemed to have two each, even though, as far as i could tell, they did absolutely nothing with them. They were all kept on a yard so were quite well cared for, but I have come across the odd horse who becomes horribly badly behaved after being badly ridden / looked after by someone who hasn't a clue what they're doing. The poor things are usually being sold on as a menace horse by an owner who's grumpily moaning about how the previous owner swore they were bombproof.

I have a neighbour exactly the same but he doesnt have kids, he just has horses for no reason, does nothing with them, he cant ride, he began with a shire mare and then kept putting her in foal, I road the oldest son from her who was a Shire X and he kept it at the yard im at even though he has a field of his own . A girl broke him in and rode him for a while but then she went to uni, then i started to bring him on again, payed for the arena use and extras and got no money for it, didnt complain, but then one other girl rode him once and got 20 quid!!! So i stopped riding him mainly due to not enough time anyway, he really needs to get a sarcoid removed as it keeps bleeding but the man is on the vets 'black list' due to not paying a bill even though he is loaded. The mother Shire had 2 other pure shire colts sired by a stallion with excellent bloodlines (fee for serving was expensive) He sold 1, but the other son and mother is kept in his field, hes just moved the Shire X in with them too. He wanted to sell the Shire X for 3 and half grand! :O! well overpriced as not alot has been done with him and hasnt been ridden for a year, he still needs alot of schooling, cant jump well and hates hacking alone, took me an hour and a half to ride half a mile from all the bucking, rearing and backing up. Some people can be very silly when they get alot of money. Not all but some

People "borrowing" stuff then not putting it back where they got it from so you end up hunting for it!!!
People that borrow stuff then break it......
Use your feed because they ran out!! without asking til you mumble something along the lines of i am sure my feed is going down!
People that used to wind my dog up by leaning on the car so he would start barking and going mental, go and stand by your cars if your chatting dont lean on mine!!!

No complaints about my yard - I've found a great place, but this post has reminded me of the "bad old days"

People who describe themselves "Competition Riders" (not that they did much really) looking down on those who choose to hack not compete. Saying they are lesser riders, wasting their horse.

NOt having anyone to hack with who will get out of walk.

Leaving my horse out on his own (bringing theirs in early) when he hates it, running round, in a lather, then complaining he is wild.

Glad these aren't true of my current yard, so I wont complain about lack of sweeping or YO's mum putting my cooler rug on her moulting grey!

can I have a whinge too !!

People who dump their muck on the nice track Ive just spent ages making on the muck heap - Im a lot older than you, if I can move it so can you !
People who let their dogs poo everywhere
People who do a flit owing money to several people on the yard that you thought were friends
People who order hay/straw then dont attend to offload and stack and pay !

Interfering people who have a lot of horses of their own, who do nothing with them just turn them out for 2 hrs a day rest of the day stuck in their stables, and try and tell me what I should be doing with my horses and who had the gall to catch I horse I have been given to ride and ride it themselves!!!!!!!

Doesnt help that horse is relatively young and unschooled and girl cant ride for toffee, uses her hands for everything legs only move to kick hell out of horses ribs when it doesnt understand what its being asked!! needless to say the owner chewed her out.

Fuming wasnt in it, sorry to rant.

Wow, I'm probably guilty of all of these things.... I don't sweep up straight away, I have a horse who (last year) was hogged with his forelock left on, I hardly ever use a noseband on him (giant head, can't find one to fit... Oh and I like his big white face) but then I never show...

I don't poo pick, I harrow and do worm counts. Crikey, sorry everyone I will be good in future!

What winds me up though is people with fat horses- no your horse's crest is NOT muscle, it's flab.

Also people filling up water/giving hay etc because they think you won't do it! I don't mind them being helpful but when you have travelled to your yard at 10pm because you've been working all day and find that you didn't bloody need to go anyway- grr....

Erm, people not patting their horses straight away when they finish a jumping round/do something well. People not getting off staight away when they've finished. Poor grammer and spelling (sorry, I know it can't always be helped but I do hate it). When sweaty horses are not washed off properly after being ridden, when people look down their noses at you because you CHOOSE to ride in jeans and an old hoody instead of the latest Toggi/harry hall gear (when they are the ones who look like numpties).

That was cathartic, thanks for the thread!

Are you sure that's how you're supposed spell "grammer"

Yeah I know, got told that already :o I'm ashamed, I read through it TWICE and didn't even notice. I'd love to say I was being ironic but it's a bit late for that now. :D

Shall I add;

People who correct my GRAMMAR?? hehehee
