How recognisable are you?

I am not sure anyone knows me IRL. I am not really 'out there' in the horsey world, though I do have a particular breed of pony and within that world my family is well known. I'd be interested to see if anyone does know me. Guesses by PM are welcome!!

I am very easily identified. I am rather out of horse related events now, but I probably met some of you when I was at Ingestre as client/livery.

I think you kind of have to take what people say on here with a pinch of salt. I do know a couple of people who have been on here over the years who talk the talk and make out that they have all these years worth of riding experience on various horses, backing, breaking and training them, but the reality is they don’t.
I try to be as transparent as possible and I’m quite open that I used to be far more successful competitively, and with tricky horses, when I was younger and braver. My brave pants flew off at some point in my twenties and I think they are still stuck on a tree somewhere 😂
I’m far happier now pottering around on distinctly average ponies, when I’m not flying off them and breaking my bones 🤣

I've spotted a few HHOers out and about in the wild through things they've said when I've met them. No one has ever spotted me though I don't think 🤔 I'd be fairly hard to trace as even my FB isn't in my actual name. Not that am particularly interesting or secretive, just would rather people I was at primary school with didn't try and track me down 🤣

Or the odd person who posts (repeatedly) a pic of them jumping a huuuge fence, which they did just the once, 20 years ago, whilst making out they were an Olympic equestrian 😂

I haven’t posted any horse names and my user name is a rock group so pretty random. The couple of posters I knew in real life don’t post now. I post a lot about ex racehorses but not generally what we are doing.

Musing... it's odd how one can be perceived as you get older.

Those I've met in recent years would very likely disbelieve what things I got up to in the past, then there are those from my past who struggle to believe what I do these days. With the absence of much social media in the last century there are only the odd photos or mini image proofs that are yellowing away in some safe place. Crashing off a few times hasn't helped my seat position these days....

In particular, one friend I've known for 50 odd years said recently, "you always said in your 20s to 40s that if you didnt compete you'd give up horses, you'd never become 'just' a happy hacker and RC person" . Surprisingly, I'm actually doing the latter and very much enjoying both.
Maybe having a nearly 6 yr break whilst renting my little yard out put things into perspective for me. Who knows? 🤔

Not sure how identifiable I am, but one of my favourite hobbies is stalking horses across the Internet when I'm looking to buy (or a friend is). I'm quite good at it, even if I do say so myself! And have managed to find out all sorts, and ultimately saved loads of time not viewing unsuitable horses that are described as saints and yet have evidence across the Internet of them bucking their riders off in spectacular style.

My most recent "catch" was a lovely looking mare who was more suited to hunting and jumping home. Turns out that she had arthritis in the spine/neck and had been off unsound for months and was only "sound"* for straight line adrenaline fueled activities.

*reader, she was not even sound doing this.

Lucky escape..!

I love the sleuthing crowd here. I wonder if your real jobs are with MI5 🤔
I however am too lazy to be in that crowd so just watch you work from the sidelines.

Damn! I've been busted, but for your information it was actually 40 years ago.........and the fence was 4'6", non of your new fangled metres. That's the only reason I don't jump anymore, I don't do metres. 🤥😊

Same here. Disappointed when someone says they are doing an x metre class and I convert it to feet and inches and realise it’s what used to be the 13.2 jumping at the local gymkhana. Similarly don’t do cms for horses. Bring back hands 😀

I’m probably pretty identifiable but that’s ok, I rarely post anything controversial. I didn’t post too much about my horse because I didn’t consider myself to be a proper rider compared to some of the amazing people on here.

I post far too many pictures to be anonymous and everyone knows what I do, what my dogs are called. I have a few HHO members on my Facebook so I’ve outed myself to them and their FB friends. 🤷‍♀️ I’m very boring so I doubt any of it matters.

I don't recall ever sharing my horses names, or my own, and although I share photos, nobody has ever said they know me or them.
I guess people would recognise me from the boys though.
My sm is all private though.

I’ve got a wonderful Mussolini-esque (as in photographed from low down) pic of me sailing over a ginormous fence, which was actually about two foot high, although it did have a massive ditch (slight indentation) underneath 😁

Thousands of my H&H posts vanished in a previous upgrade but I’d say I’m very easily recognised from other social media / slightly public life. I’ve Met several HHO members over the years. My problem is I’m very face blind so I rarely remember anyone and then come across as highly ignorant 🤣

The good news is you don't have to do meters to restart your Olympic career. All the horses these days can do the conversions for their riders!

No I don't think I will, there comes a time to gracefully step aside and give the youngsters a bit of a chance.☺️

I've no idea 🤣

I'm sure if you knew me in RL you'd recognise my posts though as I don't lie. What would be the point?! I'm more than happy to own being a happy hacker with a fabulous pony so it would result in some pretty pointless sleuthing.

I'm fairly certain I know one member from another, now long gone, forum but haven't spoken directly to them on here. I don't think I'd recognise many others though if I came across them in real life though!

All my social media is private, so you'd have to do some digging if you really wanted to find me. I'm mindful of what I say but anything I type I'd say in person anyway so...

I like to think that my profile on here is reasonably low key, although anyone that actually knows me may well recognise me from a few of the posts I've made.

Saying that recently I've realised that another poster is someone who I know fairly well and is a FB friend, but I haven't told her that I know. I also recently saw a post by someone that related to a horse that they had loaned to my friend, and some of the things it said weren't very fair. I had to sit on my hands not to write something but the people that commented said what I wanted to say anyway.

This metres thing ! It scares riders . Back in the day a 2ft 9 course was as low as you could get because put it any lower and they still jump .....two ft nine! But make that a suddenly scary 80 cm ..... IMHO no horse or pony over 14hh can jump less than 90 / 100 cm over a jump cleanly . They only have to tuck their little legs up and they clear it. It is all in the riders mind . And the trouble starts when the riders bottle at a sane height that horse or pony can judge as a sensible jump . Is it a trotting pole or a jump or just a trip hazard. 90 cm , that's 3 ft , back in the day , in pony club ,that was barely acceptable as a beginner.

I like trip hazards.

Axe’s post about JJ and the replies made me think.
Surely, if we are truthful and not talking rubbish, which incidentally I’m sure a lot do in forums we are easily identifiable by people who know us?
I, only once have recognised someone and actually it was really lovely as I’d been at livery with them years ago and it was nice to message and catch up. I’ve been recognised myself a good few times. I don’t particularly care. I admittedly sometimes ask stupid questions but as I’ve said before the silly things you may run past and laugh about on a yard when your home alone can fester a bit!
Are you easy to identify? Either to people who know you in real life or maybe that person stalking the horse you’re trying to sell?
If not or if so why?

I use my pet's real names on HHO, and just some hours ago I tried to re-post (hopefully successfully) photos of my cat enclosure on a thread, in one of them you can see a little bit of my house. I use the same avatar on HHO, YouTube, and Facebook. Even though I haven't really visited my Facebook page for years, there's pictures of my old pets on there, and only 2 other persons in all of Sweden have the same surname as me, the other 2 is my parents, and they're not on Facebook.

From there to real life, the step probably isn't too hard if someone really wanted to. But I'm so boring in real life, why would anyone bother. I try to be careful in the areas that I think I'm statistically most likely to get in trouble, which is why I've never had 123456 as an internet password anywhere, and why I have an internet security program on my mobile phone. Other than that, I just don't think I'm a likely target for anyone, and if that changes, I will just have to deal with that when it happens.

By the way, I'm pretty sure I've mentioned my city in a few posts through the years

Me too!

I'm so invisible that a friend had been searching on Google for something to do with ulcers and came up with a thread on here I'd started. It mentioned my two horses who were pretty recognisable if you knew me then.

Except she said "oh there's another lady with an ulcer prone Appy and an Ardennes you know - she posted on HHO forum"
