How tall are you and your horse?

I'm 5'1 and currently ride a 13.3hh :) My previous two horse shares were 15.2hh and I felt quite comfortable on them. I have also ridden a 17.1hh clydesdale X and riding wise, felt fine on her, but handling wise I felt overhorsed!

I'm 5'7 and my horse is 16.2hh. My smallest adult horse was 15.3hh QH x, personally I feel I'm too long in the leg and more-over too heavy for any smaller!!

I'm 5'10", Connie my now retired mare is just shy of 15.1hh, my new loan boy is 17.2hh,

although I have comfortably ridden a 14.1hh connemara

5'1" and Faolan is a 15.2 Connie very deep through the girth, I feel quite small on him, my legs don't reach down far enough! Then again I have had him from a yearling and never thought he would get so big!

I am 5'4" and my Highland Pony is 14.1hh. He has such a large barrel that I would look better if I were taller. She is over 6' feet now, but back when she was only 13 yrs old and 5'10", the daughter of a friend of mine looked much better on him than I ever could. I used to look much better on my big barrelled sprinting bred 15.2hh Thoroughbred. For your more typical TB, I'd probably need a bigger horse of about 16-16.1hh for the benefit of appearance.

So in short, as others have said, it isn't how tall the horse is that matters, it's how much leg they take up. That is assuming that the horse has enough bone and substance for your weight. Once they have that, it just becomes a matter of appearance. Which some people don't care about. Me included.

Me just shy of 5'8
Pony 13.2 chunky monkey

Got him because the plan was for my son to move up on to him next year so didn't want anything larger and wanted something to ride out with him on his pony now.

Turns out chunky monkey is rather on the strong side but I am having a hoot on him so he's staying.

I don't care if my feet dangle down, he can carry me fine :D

I'm 5'8/5'9 and Fabio's 16.3, Freddy's 16.1. Our old hore Miro was 17.1. I've got used to big horses and now feel silly on anything less than 16hh! I'm long legged too so feel i need a bigger one to look ok!

I'm 5'1+1/2 (the half an inch does make a difference!)
New boy is 15.2
old chap is 14hh now he's lost all his muscle he does feel little, that coupled with getting used to riding something bigger but I always felt fine on him and likewise feel fine on my new boy.

Forgot to say (on iPod) I don't really mind either, I don't feel uncomfortable on the tiny ponies either, I feel I have good enough balance, even the **** bags that try to throw you off any chance they get, not one has succeeded yet!
