My beautiful boy.
Wednesday lunch time. I feel like such a complete and utter cow. However I once left it too late and the daily guilt is massive, because I do think about it almost daily years later. I can’t handle that again.
Have spoken to my lovely vet and she agrees. As some of you may know my OH really fights me on this decision (hence the above)
So tonight I need to tell him and handle the nasty WW3 that’s about to break out.
This is him this week. He imo looks wonderful D4E13747-988A-4A92-9DFC-86168C905102.jpeg3D9AFCC7-47CA-42C8-B723-F26631888798.jpeg

OP if you and your vet think that it is the right time, then you are doing the best possible for your horse. I'm really sorry for you that your OH can't understand this, has he heard the vet's opinion? I hope he is more understanding this time than you are expecting. Well done for making such a difficult decision and putting the horse first. I hope you are OK and that you enjoy the last few days secure in the knowledge that you have put the horse's needs above your own.

Sending virtual hugs.

It's a rough time to have to name the day but as you know it really is the kindest thing we can do for our horses. I hope your husband recognises that a vet does not suggest PTS if there are other options that would help the pony. Having to make this choice for my girl a couple of years ago was the most difficult thing I've had to do as an owner. It was harder for me but I know in my heart it was better for her to go when not in excruciating pain which is the direction her condition was heading. Her last days were full of food she enjoyed and lots care and attention - not a moment of pain. We take on the hard stuff to give our horses the best right to the last moment. I hope you get the support you need from husband, you know you have lots of support on this forum ❤

Really sorry, hard times indeed.☹️ The only PTs decision I really regretted was the one I left too late, to this day I cannot look at the sad pics of his last few weeks that just tell me I tried to keep him going too long for my benefit not his.

A difficult decision for you but I am sure it is the right one for your beautiful horse.

I'm sorry, its never an easy decision but you know you are doing the right thing because the vet agrees with you. Do you have to tell OH before the day? Or could you just tell him that the vet came out to do a health check and called time?
I must say it makes me cross when people refuse to put the animal's needs first.

I'm so sorry you fear you won't get the support you need from your OH.

You know your horse, AND your vet agrees.

I don't know your horse, but I know that no-one who loves their horse, as you clearly do, makes that decision with anything other than the horses' best interests at heart.

Thinking of you

It's bad enough having to make this decision without having to face opposition too. I am so sorry for you but in total admiration of your bravery to do what you know is right and best for your horse.

Sometimes others have to be reminded that it is the welfare of the horse that is paramount - not their feelings.
