The item in question is the latest post on Shouty Vet's FB page about shoeing which has developed into some barefoot comments. Paula if you are on here then don't bother any more, you tried. (and clearly failed 🤣🤣🤣) Head and brick wall come to mind. 😄

Seriously what do people think of her side view (and also the front view) of the horse's feet after shoeing? There is also the benefit of her somewhat sarcastic comments. 🤣🤣

I am not concerned about her views on shoeing and studding eventers but more about what she, as a vet, thinks is a good foot.

To my mind "pretty is as pretty does" with those feet. I would want to rehab them. 😀

all those posts and pictures are in the public domain so I see no reason why they cannot be discussed.
 
I was reading her thread. Will I comment publicly and in particular here on the hoof she is showing in the images, not a chance.

Recent experience on here has definitely put paid to any real participation in this type of thread for me, unfortunately, but I appreciate others might be quite glad about that!☺️ I do applaud PI's resilience and huge efforts to engage shouty vet's groupies in meaningful discussion but I can't see that happening on there anytime soon. Or here, come to that. I will follow the thread with interest.;)

I dont think it is a good foot. From the side it looks distorted and like heel is collapsing.

It looks okay to me from the front. I didnt understand the facebook point about pasterns, but would love someone to explain it.

I also thought single front toe clips were now frowned upon by many farriers. I have had farriers refuse to do them even on vet request. But I am not sure what the logic of not liking them was.

not sure if you mean because of management or upsetting people. If the latter then please carry on. I don't always agree with you, :rolleyes: sometimes you are somewhat close to the mark :eek: but I do enjoy your posts.:D:D You come up with some very good comments that make me laugh. 🤣I would miss it if you stopped. 😭😭 Please feel free to insult me if you wish . 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣

Yet one was taken BS a couple of years ago after having his hind shoes taken off for a spell - she wasn't sure how he'd jump as he was footsore :-( . (Just to clarify, he had no shoes on his hinds at the time. Despite the sweeping statements that competition horses must be shod.)
 
Side view isn't very pretty, but it is typical of horses that have spent a long time in shoes IMO.

I'd be worried if the two of mine who were shod 'couldn't walk' if the shoes were removed - and one of them is shod because she has a very funky bone structure in her feet (likely hereditary given my farrier now does her 5yo daughter).

I found it!

Not as interesting as I hoped, TBH. The sort of feet that many, many horses have. Neither view is perfect but I have seen much, much worse.

The feelings are entirely mutual paddy555 as I believe we have agreed before when we have had a 'discussion' with opposing views. 🤔 😅 I really don't wish to insult you now or at any other time, but as I am sure you know that can quickly change at any given moment.:oops:😂😂

My reason for not engaging on this post is not personally connected to anyone in particular, and certainly not because you started it as I usually enjoy you threads too. It is the feeling that at any moment someone will cry 'Wolf' and the damn thing will be closed anyway. It is potentially an interesting discussion but not worth getting myself banned over, or being berated by more judgemental forum members for bringing the forum into disrepute and going 'too far', in their opinion anyway. ;)

Far too long in the tooth to change my posting style at this late stage so I shall quietly follow and note with interest where it goes from here. Enjoy! ☺️

I have seen worse i agree though its not great if a vet thinks they are good feet.
Also that she feels no horse could compete jumping without shoes and studs.

Agree. But vet was implying has great feet and great shoeing.

If I was a vet I’d be embarrassed to post the side photo without a caveat this was a work in progress. Id not claim it was good!

The under run heel is very common in long term shod horses. But it’s worrying when an equine vet seems unable to see the issue.
 
Absolutely agree about the way others are addressed :-( .

It's interesting though, because on the recent post condemning the little pictures of skeletal development, and encouraging that horses are broken in as 3yos (which later becomes the start of the 4yo year, but younger if they're racehorses), there seems genuine keenness to investigate research which might further prove the aspects she wants to prove. Just no interest in researching anything which doesn't fit with what she already thinks (with regard to feet and what an ideal foot looks like). To me that's not really a scientific or evidence-based approach - which surely as a vet is something you should aim for?
