Most unfortunately, and not at all in the way that Janet intended, a number of Indigo prefixed horses bred by herself and until recently kept on and well looked after at her well respected Irish draught stud are on the market and being passed around by dealers and other vendors. This is no fault at all of the stud staff, as matters were taken out of their hands.

This is so sad as Janet was always so careful to match her horses to their new owners ☹️. Some of these horses are being miss sold. The staff who looked after them so well have a lot of information on each horse, and can advise if you or anyone you know are thinking of buying one.

Not sure if you have to be a member of the group to see this, but this is the post.

As many of you know, following Janet George's death, a number of her remaining horses have been sold on through a number of channels.
Unfortunately, this was handled without regard to what Janet's wishes would have been for these horses, and with scant consultation with the people who had been caring for them on a daily basis. This has resulted in a number of horses being put on the market with the Indigo prefix, whose full history has not been disclosed in the course of their initial, and any subsequent sales.
This group is already aware of a number of instances where the horses in question have been sold on into unsuitable circumstances, had this information been known, this could have been prevented.
If anyone is considering purchasing an Irish draught with an Indigo prefix which has only recently been purchased or come into the care of the vendor, and wishes to find out further history of that horse, please message admin privately on here.
The intention of this post is not only to safeguard the reputation of the late Janet George and the wonderful horses she has bred over the years, but to also try to prevent any future welfare or safety concerns for these animals.

Thank you.

Tiddlypom is quoting from the Indigo Irish Draughts facebook page (I think), and I was just wondering where to put it on here myself. Horses have been sold without much information, resulting in them being returned.

Well done starting the thread TP. A beneficiary to her estate must be forcing this, I guess, to get their hands on the money.

Janet would be distraught. She bought back any horse that proved unsuitable and didn't sell any horses she bred that had issues she thought people might not cope with. I remember her stopping breeding from a mare that produced a foal with kissing spines and keeping her. Indigo horses were/are fabulous horses and it's so irresponsible to disperse the stud this way :(

It’s an incredibly sad and distressing situation.
Horses who are lame / kissing spines / should have a long retirement etc etc sold onto dealers .
One of which was an ex breeding stallion recently sold ( after being castrated) and sold to a lady who had no idea of his history.
He has since been returned to the dealer and now for sale again

Janet would be absolutely distraught.

I’ve managed to track down my mares dam , and watching for when /if she comes up for sale .

So please if you notice any indigos for sale please let the indigo FB know

Just seen the lady who bought Buck from a dealer in Cheshire and promised him a home for life has sent him back to the dealer! If he'd only just been gelded not surprising she struggled. I'm not sure if people outside the group can see the posts but they are public. Still some lovely foals being born out of Indigo mares.

is Amanda Weston part of the charity?

I can't see the process how it has been bequeathed to Hopton.
Basically Janet stated she wanted the yard to turn into a charity (specifically to help people with ptsd etc) using her horses. it was realised it would be too much and one of janets ex employees found hopton and got them in touch with Amanda. The person running hopton could have taken on one of Janet’s staff (which would have surely made sense with them knowing the horses and the land?) but saw them all being made redundant and hired someone else. In her words ‘well Janet isn’t here anymore is she’.

Janet would indeed be distraught. She had thought that she had her affairs laid out so that her remaining horses were safe.

I believe that the dealer shot a number of the horses that were deemed not saleable.

Indigo Reflection (Brooklet) I remember. She is the mare that Janet would size up potential purchasers on. She will be 18 now, she is one of the ones on the potentially sold on list. Janet had been loath to ever sell her again because she had failed to settle once when sold as a young horse, so Janet took her back. She was Janet's favourite ☹️.

The woman who bought Buck (Indigo Pure Arrogance), the 15 yo ex stallion, said he would need a lot of tlc and indeed he didn't look great in the pic she posted. He was grand before he left the stud a few weeks earlier ☹️. He'd lived there all his life. He didn't settle at all with her and her setup and she returned him pdq to the dealer - I believe that he's still up for sale.

This is why it’s so important to know who you gifting your horses to. They probably be sold under a white passport or name change so nobody will know the history of their horse. Don’t want to upset anyone but the rescue attitude is obviously theses fancy Irish draughty horses don’t need to be here there is more important horses needing rescuing. A lot of rescue don’t think well of fancy breed horses so I am not surprised because the rescue opinion is they didn’t suffer.
