Walked into town this morning (dentist, ugh) and passed a lab hanging on the lead several paces behind his owner. He was in very poor condition with hip bones and vertebrae visible, ok not so unusual in what was clearly an ancient dog, but his back legs were crossing over with every stride and his front legs so stiff and painful.

They had to step onto the pavement at one point to let a car pass and the poor lad slipped on the ice, back legs slid out completely, but the owner didn’t pause and just carried on chatting to his companion.

I'm afraid I'd have said something.

To add, having tried to communicate to the owners of staggering obese/severely lame dogs being dragged around and around the block, or mentioned it to their mates, you just get made out to be cruel and uncaring and the worst in the world, because it's all about the owners' feelings and they Love Their Dog and Rover loves his walks and his daily packet of Digestives, even though the same people wouldn't take grandad out for a run in the blazing sunshine/extreme cold then stuff him full of burgers. Because THAT would be unethical.

One of the many similar posts on local town FB of ‘does anyone have cctv/dashcam footage’ of a minor prang.

Car pulled out of a car park into the path of an oncoming cyclist who was doing 15mph on an electric bike. The cyclist was thrown off the bike into the road, and the bike was mashed up.

When someone asked for more details, in the reply the cyclist stated:-

“I left that to the police thinking they do that . I was in too much pain and was comforting my dog that was on my back . Fortunately she wasn't hurt🙏as I landed on my hands and knees.”

Cycling with a dog on your back, what could go wrong 😳.
I saw a goat behind a man on the back of a bike in Greece 🤣

Took Zenya to vets this morning as she is having a lap spay (not my usual practice as they don't do them). Walked up to reception and while I was booking her in a Boston terrier got away from its owner and had a go at her, they did have the grace to apologise, but then a few minutes later it did the same to the most gorgeous, huge rottie. Both he and Zen showed how dogs should behave by ignoring it, but can you imagine if they had shown even the slightest reaction, they would have been the "vicious" ones.
Vibes appreciated for her ladyship, its going to be a worrying few hours.

If it had happened to mine the world would have had one less Boston terrier in it. 😏 Let us know how she goes. V is booked in end of December and I’m already a bit flappy.

This is exactly it, to the point I daren’t comment to friends or family any more even if they ask. Dad asked once if I thought his dog was fat (she looked like a cushion with legs when they first got her) and I’ve never heard the end of it since.

Yeah my Dad's poor cat could barely walk, it was just a circle with paws, and I nearly got thrown out of the house for mentioning they might want to stop feeding ad-lib.

The owner of the dog that looks like an XL who is trying to rehome on FB. Needs a quiet home. No good with other dogs. The dog has snapped and bitten children and friends visiting the home. The comments are unbelievable not big issues and beautiful, precious, innocent; calling the rescues that won't take her in murderous.

The vet chat reminds me of something that happened many years ago.

I was a teenager. About 19 maybe. I took my dog in to the vets for a vaccine or something and saw a young, male vet.

We chatted quite a bit and I think there was a bit of a vibe going. He explained he had a Labrador who comes to work with him.

Anyway, once the appointment was finished, I was at reception paying and he just opened a door and let his Labrador out to say hello to me and my dog! No lead on it. Didn't bother to ask me if my dog was okay with other dogs or if I was happy with her meeting others.

My dog was a typical Border Collie type who didn't appreciate a high energy, unexpected greeting but she didn't actually react at all. Luckily.

It was really bizarre looking back.

Out with Lab and saw xl bully on extendable lead with a pink muzzle. I took Lab as far away as I could but it came off the path and stood staring at us. Woman owner kept on chatting and walked off with dog behind her. She didn't even look at us or where her dog had gone. it eventually followed her when the lead got to its full extension.

Four alpacas attacked by two dogs on private land. One of the four alpacas, Lady Penelope only 5 months old, died from her injuries. The surviving three alpacas are seriously injured. Presumably the two dogs and their owner/s are not dead or injured

Yep, they both look like they're having fun, but it's only fun and games until someone ends up in hospital, or heaven forbid, the morgue.
I find that video terrifying, neither child nor dog should have been put in the position to possibly hurt the other.

There’s a nervous rescue GSD type dog missing on the moor. For a few weeks now. Apparently it would never chase sheep or anything and is happily living on rabbits that have died of old age and other delicacies.
It’s missing because the owner travelled it to the moor in the car with no collar or any restraint and when they opened the boot it jumped out and ran off. No sign since.
Now my theory is some farmer took charge of the situation and it is at the bottom of a slurry pit somewhere.
Anyone suggesting the owner was stupid and is now deluded about its safety is a ‘hater’. We need to pray for him to be found safe.
They’ve had a fair bit of weather up there the last week or so. I just hope it died quickly.
(You wait, it’ll be found safe and well tomorrow 😄).

Monday, rural area, woods, river, traffic. FB posts show at least 2 dogs lost pretty much every day in this and its wider area. Van in front stops so I and the car behind stop because we can't see through the van. Person from van gets out and person behind gets out and off they toddle. On return one of them tells me that there are 2 loose dogs, one large, one small. Person says to me I just don't understand it there are so many lost dogs at the moment. I tell her that the problem is that the dogs are not on lead and clearly their owners don't value their dogs. That was met with silence. Then they were worried that the owner might be in the river and wonder which emergency service to phone. Luckily we were in a valley in the woods and noone had a signal. So off we finally set including the oncoming vehicles. I didn't see the dogs and they haven't been posted as missing and noone has fallen in the river so I guess that it all worked out in the end.

Making no attempt to restrain a dog in a vehicle is just one of the ways you (one) can let people know that you're not very smart.
Just reminded me of at least 3 instances this summer of seeing people driving along with the dogs head and shoulders out of the window. Dogs like that don't they? You see it all the time on TV. No need to worry about flying debris (you know, the small piece of gravel that can break your windscreen), being hit by oncoming traffic or road sign, or it possibly falling/jumping out of a moving vehicle.
