I was walking my dogs and all were off lead pottering about and a woman with a springer spaniel off lead was walking towards me and the dog flew at my terrier , who is a confident, friendly little chap, and it got him on the floor , the owner didn’t call her dog or rush to pull it off so I whacked it with my leads, I’m not ashamed to say I hit it as hard as I could because he was in his back with his underside exposed . The dog let go of him and the woman the grabbed it. She said sorry then walked off but I didn’t feel she was bothered, if that had been the other way round I would have made sure the tiny dog was ok and I would have offered to pay vets bill if needed. Luckily it didn’t bite him but he was a bit bruised… that’s the first time any dog has ever had a go at him and he is 6 now ..

I'm so sorry to hear that happened to your dog. Good on you for defending your dog and I hope he is okay.

It’s astounding isn’t it. You think anyone who’s dog attacked another would be mortified and grovelling and sorting the situation immediately 🤷‍♀️. I hope your boy is ok.

splashgirl45, I love your whippety-looking dog! I had a Grippet (greyhound x whippet) rescue for 9 years. She was wonderful in all respects, and I still miss her 10 years after her death. Love dogs with long pointy noses!

I’m starting to wonder if I’m the irresponsible owner. 😢 I took Mitch to the park where we met a golden who we know (owner is a fellow teacher, we chatted last strike day). He was fine with the golden and said hello to the owners but was clearly intimidated by 3 tiny terriers who came nowhere near him but were noisy. He hid behind me. He is usually overexcited when meeting other dogs but didn’t want to say hello to the terriers so I didn’t push him. He is usually nervous around bigger dogs and we rarely meet up with others, we just move past.

I absolutely won’t force him to socialise but he normally loves meeting other dogs. He can be nervous so I don’t want him to lose his confidence.

The deerhound lurcher who has rushed my dog and got right up in her face several times is now, as predicted, over twice her size (and fat too) and barelled towards her today over an open field with loads of room.

I bellowed 'PLEASE CALL YOUR DOG' several times, my dog was clearly unhappy and climbing up the lead and I barely heard her using the dog's name ineffectually from hundreds of meters away, so I headed back home. But as long as she and her friend and their dogs had a lovely walk.

There was another woman in the field with a lab but it never came over/bothered her.

Up the road from my mums there’s a couple who have two mastiff type dogs, used for breeding. The bitch has boobs to the ground. They live in a back yard. Mums friend lives next door and can’t use her garden at all as the smell of muck is so strong.
They got out the other day and attacked an elderly terrier. Thank goodness the Walker screamed and some other people came out and they managed to get the small dog away. He hasn’t lost his leg but it was touch and go.He’s 14 years old.
The police were great actually and came out immediately, but the dogs are still with the owners. Tbf they can’t have intended to kill the terrier, or he’d be dead, but what an all round s*** show.

I love him too , he is mainly whippet with a bit of bedlington and collie, just 11 months and a bit bonkers sometimesF9870B27-5698-48CF-97F5-6C379C0C7D43.jpegF10A2276-652B-4F7C-A27C-B4C2A093AD64.jpeg

I applaud you but please be careful. In many cases the owners are more vicious than their dogs. I hope your chap is OK.

These numbers are frightening, 652 incidents of dog on dog or dog on human attack I'm a 6 month period and 13 prosecutions. No wonder there are so many irresponsible owners out there, there are no consequences.

'Protect Our Pets' is scary reading. They are campaigning for dog on dog attacks to be a criminal offence. The difference in police involvement by county is strange.

He is fine, but my reaction was automatic , there is no way I would let my dog be hurt and stand aside, it happened to be a woman but I would have done the same if it had been a man , there’s no question

A different one to my usual rants. This time, idiot breeders who should know better. Neither of my breeds, but the person is well known in their breed and fairly successful.

Took back a bitch who’d bitten a child. Owners were responsible and contacted breeder for advice. They’d been struggling for a while despite it not being their first of the breed.

From meeting the bitch? I’d say it was the dog rather than owners. Generally a poor temperament. Neurotic and a bit of a fruit loop. A dog which would be manageable with the right person but incredibly hard work even then - I’d struggle to think of many people who’d suit her. Thought it when I met the bitch as a pup with the breeder (who I know well). Her sire is similar. IMO given the context of the bite I’d have PTS.

Breeder put her in whelp to prove a young stud she has. The dog is a bolshy, cocky thug of a young male. What a combination.

And thus it continues.

I did this once. Chap I used to see on the local sports field, he had a little terrier that was a bolshy little so and so. Not really aggressive as he wouldn't have done any real damage but one day, off lead as usual he just grabbed my old boy by the throat. Jack looked so confused and didn't know what to do, I whacked the terrier with my lead and he let go, looked a bit shocked. His owner didn't say anything but I know he would have been annoyed as he had been when someone else reacted badly to his dog's behaviour. I didn't see why my harmless old boy had to put up with someone else's spoilt thug of a terrier.
