Irresponsible Owners

Tho' dogs a bit less so - why are small children so sticky? And don't even talk to me about noses....

At least dogs are somewhat self-cleaning.
If only! I again had to hose my three today. I’m sure they’d eventually be clean, to the detriment of the entire downstairs. The corridor was not a pretty sight after much Mitch madness post hosing yesterday.

It's beyond sad that no one helped her
It’s quite usual to see loose dogs around here. So if they were roughly close to home no one would turn a hair. Once Tawny got out and next door was round in a heartbeat, ‘we know you never let your dogs out unaccompanied’. But we are a rarity.

ETA Tawny was only standing by my gate trying to work out how to get back in again. 😁

Loose dog sprinting up and down the field I was hacking past today, no owner in sight 🙄 luckily it left me alone but it chased the other dogs who were already there, jumped over the fence easily to where I was and generally caused havoc. Random bloke who walked past me asked angrily if it was mine!
I think I would have given him and earful for being so rude!!

I said it was absolutely not mine, tone was a bit shirty but I wish I had said a lot more!

Somehow I don't think a rider on a very green pony would take a loose dog with them and let it run wild........ but there we are.

I did keep an eye out for potential owner of said dog to give them a telling off but alas.

This sort of stuff happens all the time! 'oh don't worry he's friendly' shouted from the distance as dog bounds up from behind... I'm sure he is, but the horse I'm sitting on doesn't know that does he?!

Saw all the dogs today that I won't see for the other 364 days of the year, the weirdo with the Schnauzer who hangs around outside my house, I've seen him march on just fine down the main street so I've no idea why he passes my house at the speed of a glacier (he was literally there when I took the old dog out and had gone about five paces in the other direction when I returned ten minutes later) and a lone black terrier with no one around, just curling one out in the verge.

It's amazing how many apparently completely invisible dogs suddenly materialise at those magic times of year when the veil between the real world and the ghost world is thin: Christmas, new year and Easter weekend. They must slip through a crack in the space-time continuum the rest of the year as surely all dog owner walk their dogs daily so they'd be seen otherwise .

I must have some special powers of otherworldly communication as funnily enough I can often hear those ghost dogs during the rest of the year loudly creating apparently from within their owner's house 🤪

The thought of not taking out the dogs is anathema. Plus I’d be besieged by them being pains all ruddy day, it’s just not worth it, I may as well take them out, for a proper walk, too, a quick lead walk just would not do! I’m aware that we have built in the expectation of going out by a certain time and for a certain time. Maybe if we’d never done that, they’d be happy with no walk? Dunno, never tried it, although they’ve had little diddles on the green outside the house if lame and SURVIVED!

Weird one today. About ten minutes into a long walk, couple came round the corner, big lump of a mastiff/bull type on lead, at a distance. My lot were intimidated as she was huge and they always wait to see if they’re allowed but won’t go up to much bigger dogs. I asked if I should put mine on lead as theirs was ‘No, she’s fine, just a bowling ball, she‘s young, yours will tell her off’ and promptly took her off lead!! She bounced at mine as I told the owners mine would not tell her off, they’re far too submissive and shoved them past extremely quickly. Have a brain and it’s not my dogs’ job to tell off yours! Why not just keep her on the lead til we’re past? She was three times the size of Goose! Another dog we’ve never seen.

I often wonder what people do think when they don't see regulars for a while. Bandit hasn't been out out for a walk since beginning of December. I wonder if people are thinking of haven't seen Bandit for a while hope they're ok or haven't seen Bandit for a while, wonder if she can't be arsed to take him out anymore?

I wondered about teeny tiny staffie I hadn’t seen for days. It’s funny, but I’d seen her most days over summer then every day I do the walks, but hadn’t seen her for ages. When I did see her, I was weirdly relieved! She’s 13 but very energetic, just like Bear! The owner said the mud does his head in, can’t blame him, it’s awful currently.

What’s up with Bandit? Is he ok?

Thanks for asking, he started limping at the beginning of December so he went in for x-rays to see what was going on. Although the x-rays were inconclusive we are treating him for elbow dysplasia so he's on restricted exercise. He's starting hydrotherapy in a couple of weeks so hopefully we'll be able to start doing a bit more as the weather gets better.

Poor lad 😢 I hope his muscles strengthen around the joint to support it. They're such a worry.

Despite the naughtiness yesterday, ours have a new bed and tripe treats for tonight, it's difficult to stay annoyed at them. Shoulda got something small and lapdog like!

Glad we’ve got this thread to rant!!! Saw 2 large vislas off lead and as one of my terriers is a bit reactive I put my 3 on the lead and stopped and waited for her to put hers on. Stupid women kept walking towards me while calling her dogs who then bounced all over my 3. I said one of mine is scared of big dogs and she said they’re friendly I’ll be past you in a minute. At no time did she manage to keep her dogs away from mine, no apology while I’m having my arms pulled in 3 directions because although my other 2 are not reactive they got a bit scared and wanted to get away … I was really annoyed but didn’t have a go at here so it’s helped me calm down by putting it on here …

I commend your ability not to say anything disobliging to the bouncing dogs' owner.
My capacity to do so in such circumstances would be minimal.

I was walking with my Grandfather (late 80s) a couple of days ago and a woman had 7 off lead dogs with her was on the other side of the field. Cue three huge lab/golden retriever mixed things rushing us all… Spaniel is pretty wary now after being attacked by an XL Bully down our road about a month ago (that’s a whole other story). Thankfully she did eventually manage to call them back after I shouted “can you call your dogs please” for the third time, but the ignorance of some owners, especially in secluded places is just astounding.

People really need to think about what effect it has on the dog who is being bounced on.

Whether other people's dogs are pushy, a bully or aggressive the effects are cumulative and even a good natured dog can get to the point when they've had enough.
