Jumping into the weekend.. plans?

Fab lesson on Toby. He is very unbalanced so it can feel scrappy and pretty awful at times. But by the end of the lesson he was going much better. He is making progress week on week which is nice as there is a lot of work to do!!

Happy birthday AE.

Of to pick asbo pony up tomorrow morning.

Had a lovely hack with livery this morning, we've really enjoyed this time without asbo pony. We've been able to hack without the worry of him hurting himself or causing general mayhem.

Can I justify getting a companion for a (now) companion pony?

I got a companion for a companion! I originally had a Shetland companion who helpfully screamed her head off every time I hacked my mare. So I got a NF in the hope of keeping the noise down, but she was a screamer as well, so the noise doubled! I now have a lovely stable herd of two horse geldings & the two pony mares & no-one ever screams at or for anyone :-)

We ended up having a blustery outdoors jumping lesson on grass. I’m always a little nervous jumping on grass, worried he will get too strong, slip, whatever. He was good as gold, listening to me and not getting too strong. Much more “underneath me” and balanced. Started with X poles and ended up doing about 80cm. He did an unexpected flying change at one point - well i was told apparently I had unwittingly asked him for a flying change! Will have to learn to be much more careful with my legs and balance! Very pleased with him, feel like I need to get fitter!

I hauled the grumpy moo out of bed to go for a hack, and she behaved perfectly. No napping, no reversing, and she listened to me when I told her the flappy bike trailer thing was safe and she could walk past it. She even managed some nice work on the bit and a few nice leg yields.

And then we got home and I decided it was quiet so it was time to get a move on with getting her to load on my horsebox, as opposed to everybody else's. I got to the point where I could pick up a foot and put it on the ramp, then popped her away for ten minutes for her to think about it. When I got her back out, I slung the leadrope over her neck while I sorted some stuff in my pockets, and she promptly wandered onto the box all by herself. Did it again a few times, then called it a day because it was starting to get busy.

She still isn't standing straight enough to shut the partition, but we made so much progress that I'm thrilled with her.

I managed to dodge some pretty awful showers and we had another fun jumping session.

I needed to slow M down a wee bit after the last try where he was a tad onward bound so set up a 1 stride grid with slightly short striding, upright to spread to upright with only about 4 or 5 strides to the arena fence where we halted. He jumped really well, really carefully and much more rhythmically and controlled. Good result!

The weather has been mad today Wheels! I’m hoping that’s the rain over & done with cos I need to light the bbq tonight!

Had a fabulous time at another clinic today, a couple of really good lightbulb moments, horse went like a dream. It’s nice because what we’ve covered really complements what I’m doing in my normal lessons. Hopefully there’ll be more again soon.

I was going to book an arena hire for one evening this week as they have dressage boards set up only to find out they are open between the hours of 10 and 5 at the moment and not evenings. Oh well

Might take a sneaky half day flexi...

I hope you had a lovely birthday AE! And that everyone else has had a good weekend. Just as we were beginning to get back on track, Chilli got kicked last Saturday so now has a great big hole in her leg  But it could have been much worse.

I finally finished a painting I started of her for my mother a couple of days ago too:

She is being a very brave patient and coping really well with being in her box after being out 24/7 before injury. I'm very proud of her.

Sadly it means there will be no weekend plans for Chilli and I for a little while (again), but a friend at the yard is really kindly letting me ride her mare so I'm going to have a jump on her on Tuesday and see how we get on!

Beautiful painting. Bit gutting about the leg but it looks to be healing well for just a few days. Fingers crossed you get on well with the new one.
Wheels I feel your pain, the assumption seems to be everyone is off work and I'm stuck with full time hours!

The weather has been mad today Wheels!
I got absolutely and completely drenched ? the time it took me to run 10 feet from the barn to the feed room and I was dripping.

We had a birthday on the yard and humans got chocolate cake and ponies got my leftover apples. Possibly said goodbye to this little pocket rocket who has a home lined up. Wanted to give him a quick groom but the wee prick rolled in a muddy puddle 5 mins before I got to him and I just did not have the time to wait for him to dry lol i got a tiny whinny and he ran up to the fence to say bye as I left ?

Busy week!

Fig is going great guns. We had some fun over poles at the beginning of the week and then rain stopped play on Thursday.

Rooni has been lovely; the carriage and frame has suddenly blossomed.

He had a jump this week as a treat and was 150% confident. Kept everything little to practice our approach.

On at 5am yesterday for a local hack. It was beautiful!!!

By chance the farmer had left their (usually locked) gates open so I cantered non stop through a few fields. Bliss. Then met a very noisy very playful 30+ group of young bulls which Rooni handled extremely well.

Fun ride today which was good in that he was ace, had my feet out the stirrups for most of it, but frustrating in that really some of the tracks should have been rerouted as they were borderline dangerous. (They were after we said so, I was lucky Rooni is bf he coped ok!).

But the organisers did a great job in spite of the overnight downpour and tried their best. I look forward to the next one ahyway!

Fab 4 sessions. 1 was test riding effectively, only made it 1/3 of the way through the test but getting sharper (me not him!).
2. Cones but underbitted- clear first go through so not terrible but getting hot as the session went on.
3. Cones far far better, able to work on me again.
4. XC again vv good little horse.

Now to come up with a plan before out first event back which I think is going to be over in France travel restrictions pending, can’t find a ‘little’ run up event running!9491AD41-3CED-469C-B05E-8DB95B6E93BF.jpeg

B2 is home. He loaded like an ass. And was generally a pain when he came off at home. I've turned him out and I'm going to leave him a week or so until my feelings towards him have changed. I'm really at a loss as to what to do with him. He's going to cause issues with us hacking out as he doesn't like being left, I can't ride him, if he wont load in hand showing isn't going to be much fun. can't move him on as can't risk someone else trying to break him. I've got a completely useless beautiful pony! :(

Just a couple of pics from my lesson, not quite as impressive as everyone else's :D. I did the course twice, first was terrible, second time was much better! I'm trying to change my mindset to focus more on the positives so i'm going to say despite the first round we did a really nice second one and I am so pleased that in these photos i'm actually looking where i'm going! Looking down is such an issue with me (it's nerves) so this is good after not jumping courses for 10 weeks or so.
Must remember to be straight in my approach though :D

She’s super! She pops them nicely.

She jumps anything she is sure of really nicely. But I really love how she will slow to look and then go. Even jumping out of trot if needs be. So easy to have stops XC if horses won't do that! But she is brave and clever. Love her loads. She is a superstar.

I took the ginger to my sister's and she was very good, we had a great jump yesterday- we are now back in to a rhythm and she is jumping super after a lockdown jumping break.
My older mare was inseminated on Wednesday so she is just light hacking while we wait and see if she has taken ?

We went to a local yard to use their amazing XC field! First time doing this this year barring the odd think I find to jump out hacking so I think sky was super excited to be out and had the greatest time! He felt really keen and super!

Videos below - bit of a fail on the first but that's what it's all about isn't it? Getting it wrong then trying again and correcting yourself!

Can we count tuesday as weekend? I'm off work this week so we went jumping. Had an arena hire today, they had a course set up so we just had a play round. Supercob was great, the occasional moment where he backed off but popped everything first time. One or two untidy poles but that's a bit of me carrying what I did in my lesson forward and trying to do a bit less to help him which is interesting for us both ?FB_IMG_1592928620960.jpg

According to the weekend plans etiquette you can post right up until wednesday night :)

We had an arena hire too, first time out for us since lockdown began and it was very much needed!

Arena hire here too... managed to bugger my back 5 mins before setting off and probably should have cancelled really... nothing really went to plan, I was intending to take Darcy but the horseflies were brutal and he really can't cope with them so wound up taking K instead. Unplanned so she'd had no oats and I didn't have her iceboots either. Oh well! She did 40 mins of work she wouldn't have done otherwise ? pivo did well , airborne change still below ?

Fab painting and horrible cut, I hope it heals soon Rosieowner.
If Tuesday counts as the weekend! I took Rose to AMD for a lesson, it was bloody hot but I wore my air jacket and had a really good lesson. Still getting back from such a long break and really struggling with my fitness, especially when it's hot but although Rose was a bit lazy to begin with, she did some really nice work, was very on side and we were both completely shattered and dripping by the end of the lesson. The air jacket is really helping my confidence and apart from feeling hot I don't notice I am wearing it. I had a cold shower and was in bed at 21.00 with a good book, totally wiped out!

Filmed a dressage today, was interesting lol. We did it early before it got dreadfully hot but even so, he's been jumping a lot recently and while I love that he's very game face on and on board for anything hed have much preferred the canter to be a lot more onward bound, so he got a bit tight and stuffy. It is what it is, if id worked in much longer hed have been totally flat with the heat. It's all good learning
