I'm sorry about Jess
I had our elderly mare put down yesterday, she went easily thankfully. It's not nice when they fight it
Think of the good times with Jess xx

Thank you xMule, I am so sorry.
Can I thank you all again for your kind words and sage advice. YCBM is correct regarding this forum being a great place with some wonderful people. I love being a part of it
I finally got a response which read ' dommage '. This means shame, or 'a shame 'in this case. At least I think it does but I guess she could be saying shame on me for not saying yes.
Then a bit later she added that we'd missed the chance of a spectacular dog. So uncool to guilt trip me like that, so I rummaged a little and found a post dated 4th April. That's quite a bit of time between now so I can't help thinking she's been trialed somewhere and it didn't work. I don't know and I probably never will but I do feel a little sad and really hope she finds a good home.

I really like the French stag hounds, their heads, being flatter than our foxhounds, are very attractive. I'm not sure if you want anything with quite that much drive though!
I'm having a total mental name blank on the breed that is used as a gundog in the UK but looks like a hound. Come on gundog people...
I'm not a gun dog person but...
Bracco Italiano?
Vizsla?
Ooh yes I do like them. A little heavier than Jess, but wonderful presence . Difficult to find here I bet and mega expensive!Bracco. Well done you. My brain is having the weekend off. I thought Shady might like them.![]()
I did think of a Visla but dear god , a Weim and a Visla ......I'm not a gun dog person but...

Thank you xxSo sorry Mule xx
I did think of a Visla but dear god , a Weim and a Visla ......
Jess was perfect for both the Weims as she had oodles of energy but was by nature quite a quiet dog so taught both to be chilled in the house and people visiting were not to be eaten. I love Weims but the guarding bit has to be discouraged and she was a great teacher.
Ohhh yes! Get a Great Dane! One day when I give up horses I will have a Dane!? True
Great Dane?

Oh look at them allIf hound breeds, preferably with long-ish ears, suits you to own, I've read the following about Italian Spinone, "can be a bit clownish", "Never bossy or whiny, unless he does not see humans as pack leader, this gentle soul loves children, those he knows, and those he does not."

Or how about going down "a bit" in height, Basset Bleu de Gascogne, is supposedly a bit calmer in their temperament

Or Basset Artésien Normand

I've heard that some Petit Basset Griffon Vendéen can be a bit stubborn and headstrong, but they're cute

I crashed into a full on get together once involving about 20 hunters and 30 odd dogs whilst wearing pink hi viz and it's embarrassingly lodged in my brain as one of my many less than glorious moments. The silence and then sudden talking as I scuttled away.......
A German Pointer was my second choice after another sanglier hound. I think the match with a Weim would work very well. Similar but easier to train. Also they are very beautiful dogs. OH is not so keen for some reason but can't really say why. To my eye they are almost like Weims in a different colour, just less mad !!what about german short haired pointer, athletic and biddable if trained properly, or if it has to be a hound there are plenty of podencos in rescue or beagle if you want smaller
Merci chérie xxx. Crazy far away breeder sadly got cancer and is properly poorly.I’m so sorry about Jess. I’m sorry she didn’t go speedily, a fighter to the last, obviously!
What about another Weim to match the pup? Are you still in touch with crazy far away breeder?
Was that when you needed a wee?! ?
