Cough. Seeing a horse on Saturday. Miles away and expensive but I’m getting giddy in this bonkers market. Promising myself it’s the only one I’ll see and then (if it’s not right) I’ll give it a miss for a while and just have fun with finnegan. Hah, what a load of tosh.

So, kind of as expected, the horse yesterday was lovely and seems to be just what I am looking for. I’ve spent a sleepless night with my brain whirring and now have that anxious week of hoping he passes his vetting and fretting about making sure he settles in. Will do a proper post if all goes well and will try to keep a lid on my excitement and stress levels until I get the vet report!

Some lovely pics and reports this week!

Mine is not so exciting but I did my first competitive XC for 4 + years yesterday at the heady heights of 70cm. Horse loved it! Was a teeny bit nappy, a little bit strong but a slowish and steady clear. My first ever XC.

When it was all done, and after an amazing hotdog to add some more energy, I decided that I had had quite a good time too and about 2 hours after finishing went to walk the 80...just to go have a look. It looked like I was glad I wasnt doing it yesterday, but maybe for the future.

Pic from the warm up, finally got to wear the colours ive had sitting in a draw for years.

Good day yesterday BD with Sky .
We had a plan in place to change the warmup we went from walk to canter and only trotted just before our time and used the traver and shoulder in .
Good test in the Novice fluffed one movement the canter trot canter on the diagonal where I think the horse thought the rider wanted walk so got a 5.5 for that .
Next the Elementary 45 we had a bash at this unaffiliated a week ago but this was his first BD only three in the class .Sky looked more at ease than a week ago but the transitions between different types of the same paces are not quick enough yet or secure looking .
It was a well respected List one judge who has never seen the horse .
68.08 % in the Novice to win and a very respectable 66.55 % in the Elementary just over two per cent behind the horse that won .
Spot on sheets ,great comments .
So now we have made the decision to take a break from competition for around two months to work on the way of going and allow him to get stronger .
The judges are seeing exactly what we feel so we know exactly where are .
I am really pleased with him .
The Pro who has not competed for a while ( he trains a lot of people ) is enjoying him and I am having fun as well .Doing no competitions for a while will leave more time for me to get Sky having some fun and jumping which will be good .
Really pleased with my ID .

Not our day unfortunately.

Didn't make it out of the gate due to car and trailer getting stuck in the mud.

Poor OH felt terrible but I feel quite sanguine about it. I always think things happen for a reason and today just wasn't meant to be.

Lovely neighbour came round in his tractor to tow car and trailer out so no harm done in the end.

Hope everyone else has a lovely day.

Now slumped in chair as knackered!
Yesterday did a morning session with Trec training for the obstacles, B Fuzzy v good tho got a little impatient waiting for her turn and was a bit puzzled why we hardly got out of a walk lol.

This morning went SJ. Was going to cry off as wet...both parking and jumping was on grass...
But gave myself a talking to and loaded B. Managed to walk half the course for previous class as was assured it was same, just going up to 60.
Went to warm B up and she had put her tight antsy pants on without me looking.... had a dickens of a job to get trot circles instead of full passes and shoulder in/out. Thought canter might help.... nope, still antsy... so fired her in trot at practice fence with simple x poles at 60, like launching a blooming missile!
More attempts at moving forwards, actually managed some circles.... tipping it down..... thought a 2nd pop might be in order, anti ballistic missile launch again.
Shimmied sideways, crabbing in the deluge to the collecting ring steward to find I was in next, the one in front was half way round the course! Peered closely at where she was going to discover the other half of the course..... thought about pulling out, still raining, B still twatting about....
Nope, I thought I'd attempt 2 or 3 jumps of the course then retire, we needed to do this.
Went in the ring and suddenly she relaxed and softened! Ok, buzzer sounded, off we went, a couple of slips between jump 3 and 4, another little slide after fence 8, rolled pole at 10 (my fault as cut corner to give better line to 11) and whoop, we completed all 14 fences! And..... she was relaxed properly by fence 8 on the course.
Wandered around walking her off, 3 more jumped, rain still heavy.... to my amazement they split the class into seniors and juniors, and B had won! Bless her contrary hairy self!
I swiftly pulled out of the next class tho, too soggy by now for me.... with B it's not the height of jumps, it's what she does for prep and in between!

Now home and the blooming sun is out! Washing machine on, sodden tack to clean....

Friday was uneventful, and vet appointment was rescheduled for Monday since he got busy with a colic.

Had a lesson on Saturday that made me question my entire existence and why I am pursuing dressage, the lesson was fine, but I feel like my show jumping days were a simpler time ?

Horse is still too fat for my liking so more work on top of more work ?

Did hill walking the OH and dog today.

Edit: It was his 9th birthday yesterday. I can't believe he's already 9. Feels like just yesterday a barely backed 5 year old nervous little horse got off the lorry from Spain. Where did the time go?!

Pinched a sit on my friends horse this morning so I could hack with her and her 4 year old. The mare is fab and we had a nice hackScreenshot_20210516-182950_Facebook.jpg
Charlie was an over - achiever in the working in - quite a big oxer for an 80 class, so he decided he'd give it some extra air.
We felt a bit more together this week. I had a steering fail as he was ballooning a bit so I had my neckstrap but he started to settle so I dropped it between 4 and 5. And then weirdly I couldn't seem to steer... yeah I'd dropped the rein not the neckstrap so managed to sort myself out before we went for an impromptu swim! Popped 5 which was the last knockdown and on to the solids.
First couple were good, nice bold stride to them. Then we came down the hill and the take off for the next was really cut up. He stopped at the last second, I pitched off and remounted to represent but he was having none of it so I moved on jumped the next few, had another stop on very soft ground - we jumped the 70 on representing though so I'm fine with that, another couple of fences through the water and over a showjump to finish which he was worried for - again poor ground but jumped - he knows where he can "safely" hit a fence.
We're going to do some work over the next few weeks at this- getting stud holes in and will maybe use kelsall's xc field to practise over some real easy fences to build his confidence.
Weirdly it's left me feeling OK for somerford as they surface the landings and take offs so I think he should be fine

No riding for me today, Kira has done 5 days straight and I'm in danger of triggering an attack of the noes if she doesn't feel like she's had her R&R ;)

nice pottering though, gave the tiddlers new haircuts, first time for Hera and Frankel was in dire need, having grown a double mane down to his shoulder  not very flattering on a weedy 3yo neck. He just fell asleep. Hera fidgeted until she self-soothed, a good lesson to learn while I was there but not giving her any attention.

Spot of cantering out and about for Rooni, work has been so busy I was thankful for a quiet blast.

Then Fig had a spin in the school, one of my bestest friends had a sit on him (who usually hacks him).

Did an admirable job considering he last schooled a horse over 5 years ago. By his own admission he isn’t experienced at that aspect of riding and Fig isn’t an easy horse.

And today Rooni went to a new venue for some pre regionals practice. He was a mega good lad, we made a few big mistakes but I’m still pleased with 66% and 65%, his hardest medium tests yet and 3rd outing at the level.

We did showing today. Not my usual scene, but wanted to throw some support to our local show.

Solo utterly disgraced himself ? Combination of the rain, being able to see home and shout his friends, the arena we usually ride in being all wrong, and his Side Saddle I think is a little snug on the shoulder. Time to get the wider one back out!

Baby Pod did a couple of classes too, and was mostly much more the grown up ?

Ride judges are apparently back so thought I should give the show saddle an outing - have used my dressage saddle for our couple of shows so far this year as it is the saddle I use most of the time. So straight cut show saddle (no knee rolls at all), show bridle on and off for a canter around a route we haven't been around for six months (shut off during pheasant season, then either too dry or too wet) so that was sensible. Talking of too wet, we waited for the rain to stop, went off out, got back to yard just as first drops of the next downpour were starting. It absolutely tipped down so glad we were back. Horse enjoyed himself I think and it was lovely as so many bluebells out at present.

The lesson turned into the instructor riding Amber for me for the hour in the outdoor school and it was reasonably busy so good to see that ridden correctly Amber doesn't actually care about any of it. The issue is me being focused and riding well enough to keep her attention! Learned from that and managed a good 20mins schooling outside by myself last night so stepping in the right direction. It also highlighted a few communication issues I've let creep in so we're going to carry on working on that, hopefully with a lesson tonight and Wednesday weather permitting. They might be 50/50 between me and the instructor just so we can get everything straightened out again.
Daisy is measured for new boots however farrier spotted that's she's not quite comfy at the moment, her feet are fine so I think I just did a little too much too soon last week so she's having a few quiet days and then we'll reassess.

I lost my little cob on Tuesday so I have basically just been wallowing ?

Sorry to bring the thread down. I didn't want to do a long dramatic thread of his own because I'm still processing and not at the "remembering his life" stage.
