My beautiful Boots just died…

I’m going to Morgan’s Dog Rescue (where the little cockers were @Moobli ) on Friday.

They have a 3 year old Springer bitch who is a failed gundog as she wasn’t reliable. They hadn’t advertised her as she’s quite nervous and they were waiting for someone with experience with Springers (Boots) and nervous dogs (Tommy when I got him).

They want a reference and photos of your home and if everyone gets on I can take her home that day

Sounds promising! Fingers well and truly crossed 🤞🏼

Sounds promising let us know how it goes!

This little springer I’m seeing on Friday sounds sweet. She’s a fully trained gun dog but was gun shy so they didn’t want her, they said she’s nervous but not shown any signs of aggression and has got on fine with all the dogs at the kennels.

I’m also picking up Boots’s ashes and his pawprints on Saturday, so we’ll all be home together

You will never know for sure, but try and get to view this nervous dog in a location that is new to it before committing…..that is of course after seeing on home territory. Some I’ve come across were just a bit ‘edgy’ on home ground but fell apart somewhere new. It will give you an idea of the size of the challenge you may be taking on.

Sorry if teaching grandmother to suck eggs.

Off to meet the failed gundog tomorrow. Wish us luck.

Had another rescue contact me about a springer. He sounds delightful but does sound very much like he’s never been taught to “chill out” and run amok and have it excused as “he’s a high energy dog” before he got to the rescue.

Boots was always high energy on a walk but a chilled out dude at home.

Picking up Boots’s ashes on Saturday. I’m going to get some put in some jewellery and scatter him on his favourite beach

Very best of luck and I do hope it works out.

Just caught up with this. It really shouldn't be this difficult for a good owner to rehome a dog when there are so many needing homes 😡!

Best of luck for today. I hope this is the one.

I know they just want what is best for the dog, and I know there are a lot of numpties out there so I know it’s not unfounded but still.

This rescue has been really pragmatic, they wanted photos of the house and garden and a reference from someone with a professional association with my current dog/deceased dog. So hopefully we all get on today :)

It would be understandable, but most of them do end up rehoming to numpties! I've lost count of the times i've encountered an out of control dog, only to be told "sorry he/she is a rescue" as if that excuses the owners incompetence! It's probably ok though as they have a 6ft fence and a lawn at home 😏

😂😂 This, yes, I know of people who have ended up with dogs because they have a secure fence and are at home all day.

My dogs ignore me all day when I work from home and go to sleep in the living room

He might be refusing treats if he's a bit stressed. Or he might prefer a squeaky toy, or being told that he's very good boy. You'll soon find out what floats his boat :)
I did wonder if it was because he doesn’t know me. Tommy refuses treats from strangers. He seemed happy to come back to me for some fuss. And he stuck to Tommy like glue to be honest so I think he will take his lead in most things.

He is an absolute sweetie. Him and Tommy chose each other
