Just saw a really nice mare advertised by Lucinda Russell today. I know that's a bit far for you, though!
Carrie Massingham was some lovely ex racers. Usually straight from Newmarket. Please, please, please no questions about Ludo. It's a nightmare. It's not going to end well. It's breaking my heart. It hurts so much I can hardly bear it. I will not discuss him.
I need a new horse to ride, it's in my blood, it's a drug, I just can't live without it. I love TBs and TB types. I know full well how fragile they are. I have a decent budget available, but it doesn't guarantee soundness, so my current aim is £4k or less.
I'm looking for a TB, unbacked/very green or ex racer, 15.2 or bigger, age 12 max, prefer a 3 or 4 year old, straight out of training would be ideal. I love the retraining process. 2 hours max from Manchester.
Off you go folks, I'll look forward to rejecting the 14 hand cobs in Suffolk you suggest ,
If you're up for a gamble RMJ horse rescue in Malta have a couple of ex harness racers in Foster in the UK looking for homesCan we get one thing clear please.
I've had a lot of these horses.
I know it's a risk.
Life for me is not about not taking risks.
I like looking at the sales results to see which ones have been bought by people who I know are either sourcing for retraining or looking for one for themselves to bring on.If you are not in any rush would you consider a trip to the the sales?
A careful check of the veterinary reports for any entries you might be interested in will often give details of ops etc which you may not get from a private seller.
I believe that the problem is people still expect them to be given away. Obviously trainers are busy people and if they don't have anything retiring they probably won't want to chat.Mine came from Paul Midgley (Malton) as too slow - Midge was very easy to deal with, horse was sensibly priced and exactly as described. He arrived off the transporter a week after his last race, in really good condition.
Mick and David Easterby have a lovely bay 4 yr old mare on their FB page.
a friend of mine was looking recently and contacted our local trainers. I gather from the reactions she got that they are inundated by enquiries for retiring racehorses! Most asked her to email them, a couple virtually hung up on her.
Would you consider a loan? I am considering sending one of mine out on loan whilst I recover from my injury.
We only have Well Above Par still available at the moment. The lovely chestnut with all the bling has, unsurprisingly, already found a home.
Mike Smith had a lovely big 5yo Gelding advertised the other day for 2k.
We will have a few more in a few weeks possibly.
We get a LOT of people looking for horses. And the ones who just message with "have you got any for sale/loan" I tend to ignore as I don't know what they are looking for in a horse, size, gender, ability, temperament etc. I do really like the people who tell me exactly what they want, what they will compromise on and what they want to do with the horse. Then I know if we have something suitable. If not right then then I keep their name on file to gives them first dibs if one does come up that would suit.
I would like not more than 11 or less than 3, sociable with humans, not less than 15.2, strong preference for a classic head with big jowls and chiselled nose. To do very low level riding club and hack about alone and with friends. We rarely redone anything under thale age of 4yo. Some of the ones coming up are 5/6 or 11/12.
Happy to teach to hack, happy with any level of greenness but would want to know it had been sat on. Happy with soft tissue injuries if ready to start a ridden rehab. Probably happy to take on a navicilar rehab as long as no bone chips or spurs on x rays. Happy with "a bit sharp" but not with a "get off my back" buck or rear. Most of ours go places on their own no bother at all. One that I know will need a home soon has a dirty bar steward buck in it. We run everything so all have guaranteed been sat on!
Must stand square, camped under behind a big no, goose rump a big no, over at the knee a big query depending on front foot conformation, and have symmetric muscle development. We have none of those either just now.
Not keen on greys. We have none of those just now or soon.
I think that's it.
I'd be looking for permanent loan, it would be awful to have to hand back a horse I was attached to.
Have you thought about British Thoroughbred Retraining Centre. They're very good, and you'll have an honest appraisal. If they were closer I would get in touch, I really like the idea of loaning not buying, even if it costs the same.
.
My friend got one from them they were very unhelpful when it arrived lame. They in fact offered no help at all.If you're up for a gamble RMJ horse rescue in Malta have a couple of ex harness racers in Foster in the UK looking for homes
