@ycbm

Clare Ellam has a rehab yard, and deals with alot of racers. Happy to send you over her details/page if you do Facebook.
I know clare and would happily recommend! She’s very reputable and well connected around the midlands, so well worth having a chat. Lostford Equine Rehabilitation is her business if you want to Google/ Facebook?

ETA Clare is trainer/ physio/ nutritionist so well qualified!

I've contacted a yard about a loan horse that's had a year in the field after pulling up with a racing injury and now needs a quieter life. I think that would suit me very well. I'd enjoy the rehab aspect.
.
Will it be a permanent loan?
You don't want to do all the work (however enjoyable and rewarding) for the owner to ask for the horse to be returned.

They say so, and he will go with a contract. I'm relaxed about it, I would enjoy the work and I would insist on something the contract about being paid if he's taken away after being made worth more.

I've decided not to pursue it. I looked up his record and he has had three spells of a year or so out of racing in the last 5 years. If I do ride again, something I'm now not sure about, I change from day to day at the moment, sorry, I would want to do 2 hour fun rides and not worry about breaking the horse.

ETA the explanation for two other long gaps I've been given is a wind op recovery. I've had a tieback done on a horse and he was back to normal in weeks so I don't really understand that.

Most exracer loans from the trainers yard have a clause in to say they can take them back if you are not looking after the horse correctly - ie it turns into a cruelty case - but only that. It's one of the few permanent loans that really does mean permanent.

That's good to know from the horse's mouth, if you'll pardon the expression 😁

It looks like he broke down then they raced him again and he broke and they raced him again and then he broke a third time. Poor little soul that they kept racing him even though his body was clearly unable to cope with it

Very out there shout, as I remember your excitement in your posts about him - what about another Joe?

Although would be great to see an ex racehorse get a lovely home!

I have the advantage of knowing all of mine for years before I take the home 😂 and to be fair I haven't brought one home in well over a decade which I would say is pretty good going seeing as I work in the sweety shop! But one will be coming home with me at the end of summer when he retires from racing. I have ridden and looked after him since he was 3yo, he is 9 now.

@ycbm i have a friend down here who rides out with Seamus Mullins yard. You can’t get much further south but if it would be worth asking her I will do. Her OH is a jockey and she’s a vet and she has just taken on a stunning mare.

Wee bit too far to travel Clodagh but that's a lovely offer, thank you. I don't think I can take the risk of buying unseen now I don't have my own land. I viewed a promising prospect this morning only to find a sarcoid right on its eye 😨

I'm going to go see the rehab, I've had some reassuring information about the gaps in its training record.

Clearly has a sway back, but she's a nice type

Sway backs really disturb me, which is a great shame because I'm sucker for a bright bay with no white legs and she's perfect otherwise.

The owner of the rehab says he's taken but with my experience and what I want to do she'll easily find me another and email me soon, which is nice to hear :)

Watching with interest. I’m no help as near me are a few but I’m down south too. A friend has taken one from a yard in Salisbury who is the most sane sensible six year old 15.2. Needs loads of rehab work which she is happily doing and really enjoying him. They are out there. Fingers crossed for you.

Congratulations on not presenting me with coloured cobs everyone, but you really aren't doing very well with the 2 hours travel from Manchester 🤣
There are a couple of race yards in Cheshire, that's within 2 hours. The only horse I know of who they are thinking of selling ticks all the boxes but is dark grey. I think he may already have gone but might be worth getting in touch with the yard and asking if they have anything coming up.
