Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah this is torture, not allowed ANY booze on Dukan and last drink was now..... *scratches head*.....18 days ago!!!!!!

I am having day dreams about GIN......I can feel the tonic bubbles hitting my nose as I lift the glass, and sip the lovely cold citric gin smell.....oh wait...it's sugar free squash :(

wwwwwwwwwwwwwwaaah

this is why I'm on the Seafood died (see food and eat it ;) :D ) and also broken elbow means no running :P Pass us a glass ,ta! :)

do you know that no-one has mentioned wine gums, food of the gods and the best thing to chew on, as you drive up and down, up and down looking for that show site, even better mixed with a bar of Cadburys Dairy Milk!

^^If you're going to change the topic, you should really start a new thread as it's not fair on the OP otherwise. ;) ;) ;) ;)

I am surprised no one has brought up the issue of proper wine drinking equipment. Is is permissible, under any circumstances, to drink wine out of a mug? Does it change the question if the wine cost under £5? What about a styrofoam cup (as I saw a very famous clinician do once - for breakfast!!!)?

Technically it is a sin to drink wine from anything other than a correct style of glass. The wine should be chilled (white/rose) or room temperature (red) or hot (mulled). Obviously there are (often) situations when you have to improvise. I have used both the articles you describle above TS, and also a coffee flask and plastic childs beaker - the type with two handles - v. v. useful when consuming vino collapso in any quantity - they also bounce so when you drop it you can catch it again without spilling a drop. Under terrible desperate circumstances I have also consumed wine from the lid of a deodorant can, the little pots you used to get camera film in (irritatingly tiny - many refills needed) and cutting out the middle man completely - the bottle.

disclaimer - the desperate measures were MOSTLY when I was a student ;)

On the subject of fluid holders may I just add that soup bowls do not work! If you want the majority in your mouth not down your front.
However teapots are very good! Hold a good volume, hard to spill and if drinking from the spout the top allows almost continuous pouring as there is no need to adjust air pressure in the container.

Drinking from the box is difficult, you need to take the bag out of the box first, I have tried :o My line of thinking is if it holds liquid it is fair game ;)

This has to be the most successful post I've ever started. It's running to 3pages - normally I'm the queen of thread killers, one post from me and "plop" the thread keels over!

I'm learning quite a lot about types of wine, advice from drinking schoolmasters and variety of drinking vessels both good and bad - keep it going!

PSML!!! That is fab!!

Have quite a wine shopping list now, thanks guys!!

New to these forum things but......LOVE this thread!!

Am heading to a show this weekend and it may take a large amount of these wines to get me into the ring!!!

Far back in the mists of time when I used to play polo quite a bit, my parents used to time how fast they could make it to unload me, 2 or 3 horses, studs in, tack on, daughter on board and first glass of wine poured... :D

Nooooooooooooo! Im on weight watchers and am banned from wine (I can have 3 G^Ts for one glass of wine!) - can we start a bombay saphire/Gordons club?!!!

See Kirstyhen, I remember when we arrived at Burgie and cracked open the wine, AND finished it, all before 10.30 in the morning  :D And I know we used the excuse that we had been awake and driving all night and our body clocks were out and all that, but... So I think you protest a bit too much, what you really mean is that you would PREFER some sloe gin, and that's fine :) Best of luck, kick on :) :)
