Infact, I often encounter inconsiderate horses around my fences, owners should keep them on leads. Also noticing how many posts I have makes you a cyberstalker. Moomin1- excellent. Although what do you expect if you leave your posts in grass. Please consider having fence-rays done, there may be rotation of the postal bone, & corrective fencing to be done, it may well need heart barks.

Thanks for the advice littlelegs, I will be more careful from now on. It does lean at a very odd angle. This particular fence which has laminate-itis is just too chunky - probably a result of too many chips in it.

All of my other fences get sanded down every 6-8 weeks and fence oil applied.

Ooh well gates can have two sides to them you know! I've not met one yet which doesn't swing from one side to the other in an argument. They'll trap you when you aren't looking and sometimes won't budge when they don't feel like it.

Yes but then we know everyone on here is quite frankly "gateist" just cos they have their fancy posts and fences they just look down on us with our humble gates. I daren't even ask for advice about rusting and whether it is caused by an over oxygen rich diet... I expect I'd get asked why I'd bother having a gate anyway.

Wooden gates are far too high maintenance I'd have to worm it frequently and get specialist help to check it for splinters on a regular basis. Not to mention the carpentry lessons as I can't make it behave by myself - simply don't have the experience. Anyhow everyone on my yard has metal gates it's all about the super shiny accessories you can get for them!

My fence was old and saggy and wasn't up to the work I wanted it to do anymore so I rang up an ad that promised a good home to old fences - something about keeping it warm near an open fire or log burner the ad said, how kind to look after an old fence like that I thought. Anyway it loaded ok onto the truck that came to take it away and then a very nice young man brought me a lovely shiny new one. Its home bred as its parents live out in the woods on the farm still and he has matched it with some very nice shiny mesh stuff and everyone who sees it says how attractive it is.

PLEASE HELP!! My friend just bought a fence from a back street fence supplier and it's all gone wrong!

The fence has sap oozing from it's post knots and woodworm! It also has what looks like dry rot, but she refuses to isolate it from the other fences!

The vet has told her to use Cuprinol, but she won't do it as her alternative wood guru told her not to. She has said she might creosote it with some old stuff she has in the shed.

It's nasty too-got me with a rusty nail. The supplier won't take it back either!
