If I get no answers I will cry:(:p

I will happily answer these later when I have more time, that is if the likes of me are of use, some of those questions don't really apply to me, e.g. didn't purchase or rescue.:p

What breed/ X breed is your dog? (you can do one for each dog if multiple amounts)
Two German Shepherds

Did you purchase or rescue your dog?
Bought both

Why did you want a dog?
We've always had them, primarily for pets, then showing, now working, if they have the aptitude.

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected?
These current two, yes.

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons?
Yes, we've moved on pups bought specifically to show, when they didn't make the grade, and one crossbreed because it was not safe around livestock, all to family friends or friends of family members.

Would you get another of your chosen breed?
Absolutely!

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks
Always had German Shepherds. Male was grey, which is why we took him over his sister, but ended up getting her too.

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why?
Adult dog/older pup. Can't be bothered with baby puppies :p

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why?
No, it's all been a learning experience!

Is there a bred you would never consider and why?
Akita. Just always struck me as being 'too much'. Rough Collie, personal grievance :p

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog?
Health issues - we were notified before purchase that B had nether regions issues.
Dog aggression - mainly made worse by weak handler (me) but knew there was a possibility.
High-strung female - another reason my mother chose the dog over the bitch but we ended up getting her anyway, but was aware from seeing her behaviour in kennels.

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment?
Because I have known breeder all my life, I know he health tests, shows and works his dogs.

What breed/ X breed is your dog? (you can do one for each dog if multiple amounts)
Abe- Australian shepherd mix
Did you purchase or rescue your dog?
I rescued him
Why did you want a dog?
Because i am mad? No really because my our house was empty without a dog and we wanted someone to hike with us.
Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected?
No not harder to train. Different than my gundogs in the past though.
Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons?
Nope
Would you get another of your chosen breed?
I would get another Australian shepherd yes. I don't see myself being without them now.
What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks
Because he needed a home and was not coping well in kennels
Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why?
Adult dog i am so not interested is wading through the puppy minefield.
Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why?
No
Is there a bred you would never consider and why?
Not really a toy dog fan
If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog?
He chewed and had SA but it was easily solved

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment?

There you go done!

I'm not doing one for mahalo because well he's legally not mine yet.

What breed/ X breed is your dog? (you can do one for each dog if multiple amounts)
Isa is a British Inuit (so technically GSD x Husky x Malamute
Shadow is a collie x greyhound

Did you purchase or rescue your dog?
Isa was purchased
Shadow wasn't technically a rescue, but his owner had to rehome and we got him from her. Didn't have to pay anything for him.

Why did you want a dog?
I got Isa when I was with my ex-husband - he already had a GSD and we decided a second dog would be a nice idea.

When we split up, he kept his GSD and I took Isa. I wanted another dog as I think two dogs are a good idea, so that's why I got Shadow

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected?

Isa was very easy.

Shadow, being slightly older (six months) already had some 'issues' - I had real problems with his recall, which did get resolved but it used to take me 20 minutes to catch him in the field!

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons?

Yes. Many years ago I had a lurcher and a lab x. I had a nervous breakdown and went to stay with my sister who hated my dogs. My parents talked me into giving them up - never forgiven either of them for that one.

Would you get another of your chosen breed?

Definitely, on both counts. I've previously had a lurcher and an ex-racing greyhound - love longdogs! And Isa's so wonderful I'd definitely consider getting another Inuit.

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks

FIRST thing was looks - I met an inuit when I was on holiday and loved the look. Did some research, spoke to some breeders, temperament-wise they sounded like they'd fit.

Re Shadow, the person heard I was looking for a second dog, sent me a picture, and yes I fell in love with him there and then! We introduced the two dogs, which was obviously the final say with him, as not much point if they hated each other!

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why?

Got Isa as a puppy as we felt our existing GSD would accept a puppy easier than an adult.

With Shadow, I was really looking for a young(ish) adult as Isa was only 18 months but didn't want to go through the tiny puppy/housetraining stage again! He was six months old when I got him, which was perfect.

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why?

No.

Is there a bred you would never consider and why?

Boxers. All the ones I've ever met seem to be a bit mad, and they seem susceptable to a lot of health problems.

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog?

No issues with Isa, beyond the usual early training things like chewing and housetraining, all of which was expected anyway.

Shadow had truly awful recall when we first got him. Wasn't expecting it when we got him!

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment?

I did a lot of research on the internet for the breed, spoke to some breeders by telephone, visited a couple to meet their dogs and see what they were like, and one of them recommended the breeder we finally went to.

Hope that helps!

What breed/ X breed is your dog? (you can do one for each dog if multiple amounts)
Bichon Frise

Did you purchase or rescue your dog?
Rescue

Why did you want a dog?
Always had them & wanted one to keep me company when hubby's at work

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected?
Harder, she was kept for breeding previously & had never been properly house trained

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons?
No

Would you get another of your chosen breed?
Yes

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks
We had Bichons when I was young at home, they have a big personality, they're crazy & playful & are very intelligent

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why?
Would have had either but my little dog needed a home & she was 3, & when I saw her she was petrified so could't resist taking her home, would have done the same for a puppy too

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why?
No

Is there a bred you would never consider and why?
I like the look of Staffs & rottys (they;re my favourite looking dogs)but would probably not consider one as I would like to have children in the next few years & would worry about one turning on a child..Bad press I guess

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog?
Toilet training, I didn't expect to have to toilet train a 3 year old & was told she was fully house trained before I got her

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment?
N/A

What breed/ X breed is your dog? (you can do one for each dog if multiple amounts)

2 collie crosses and 1 Border Collie. (Jess 7/8 yrs old was approx 1 yrs when we got her. A stray from local pound.
Skye collie x 4 yrs Was 3yrs when we got her.
Monty BC 2 yrs. had him 3 weeks.
Did you purchase or rescue your dog?

All Rescues

Why did you want a dog?

companionship, fun, I enjoy training, enjoy agility and Flyball

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected?

Jess was very difficult for about 2 years. She was very confused and insecure. Took her a long while to settle in.

Skye insecure, very quiet at first, no confidence. No recalll (LOL) Now settled and has recall. Yeah!

Monty Has settled very quickly. Recall coming on very well.

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons?
No

Would you get another of your chosen breed?
Yes

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks

didn't particularly "choose" the breed as such. Just instinct that they would be part of our family and lifestyle.

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why?

All adults. No reason, they just found us.

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why?

No

Is there a bred you would never consider and why?

Not really. as long as the dog fits our lifestyle I have no preferences. It's just that as we enjoy agility and flyball that collies and their crosses fit what we all enjoy.

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog?

Recall problems with 2. Not expected

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment?
haven't ever bouight from a breeder

Here are my answers. I've answered for all 3 dogs.

do you know there is a site called 'survey monkey' where you can make free surveys? I've used it a few times for my business and it's great and really easy to use (for you and the survey taker), plus people can respond annonymously so you get more honest answers. You just post the link to your survey, so you can put it in your sig, on fbm, tweet it, whatever you want.

What breed/ X breed is your dog? 1.Boxer. 2.Mixed v.small terrier type

Did you purchase or rescue your dog?1.purchase 2.given from a client

Why did you want a dog? 1.love dogs and our lab had recently died. 2.company for the Boxer.

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected? 1.easier 2.easier

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons? No

Would you get another of your chosen breed? 1.yes, definitely 2.I don' know if they exist, but yes.

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks 1.sex, size, colour, temperament of mother 2.size and temperament

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why? 1.puppy because we own
a B&B and so need a dog to grow up in that environment. We felt an adult dog that was not used to living with new people every day would not be happy. 2.puppy, but had no choice really!

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why? apart from 'puppy regret' for a few days, no!

Is there a bred you would never consider and why? no, I've never thought 'I'd never have that breed of dog', although I prefer big dogs and until last year had very little experience with small dogs.

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog? 1.main problems were; house training, jumping up and pulling on the lead. I was aware that a lot of dogs do this so I was prepared but as she gets inconsistant messages from me and my partner re: jumping up and pulling she still does these things to some extent. House training took longer than I had hoped but at least we have tiled floors! 2. only problem with the little one is nipping, she has really sharp teeth and nips even when she's just licking you. I didn't think it would be a problem as we taught our other dogs not to bite very quickly, this one doesn't seem to get the idea though!

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment? 1. i saw an advert on kijiji, went to see the pups at home and meet the mother. They were well handled, lived in the house, were used to kids and cats, obviously well looked after, parents hip scored etc so I decided to put a deposit on the pup I wanted. 2. didn't choose her really, a client's dog had pups and she was struggling to find homes for them so I said I'd take one.

What breed/ X breed is your dog? (you can do one for each dog if multiple amounts)
Labrador

Did you purchase or rescue your dog?
Purchase

Why did you want a dog?
Companion

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected?
Much easier, in that we didn't train, she just knew 99% of things!

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons?
No.

Would you get another of your chosen breed?
Erm, yes in that I love labs but no in that I don't think that it could ever live up to Chloe so wouldnt, def not a black one anyway.

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks
We always wanted a lab it wasnt a choice.

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why?
Puppy, wanted something that we could ensure would definitely fit our lifestyle (horses, long time at home etc)

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why?
Never ever.

Is there a bred you would never consider and why?
Rotti, anything much bigger than a lab just because of house size and any future children.

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog?
Well Chloe has had hip dysplasia, and we knew it might be a possibility with the breed.

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment?
Kennel club top breeder thingy.

Any reason why Cayla?!

What breed/ X breed is your dog? (you can do one for each dog if multiple amounts)
Sweep - cocker spaniel
Max - Labrador

Did you purchase or rescue your dog?
Sweep - bought
Max - rescued

Why did you want a dog?
Have always had dogs not sure what to do without one :)

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected?
Both as expected - quite easy

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons?
No

Would you get another of your chosen breed?
Yes - have had vickers and labradors before

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks
Sweep - he chose me
Max - rescue matched us up

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why?
Sweep was a puppy Max was a year - told rescue I wasn't fussy

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and
why?

No - well maybe when they are filthy and wet!

Is there a bred you would never consider and why?

Anything small and happy is just wrong! Nothing smaller than a cocker for me.

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog?
No real problems with either of them.

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment?
Sweep came from neighbours - wasn't intending to get one just went for a cuddle

God you are sooooooooooooooo demanding!

Do you have any idea how hard that was to do on an iPhone??:D

What breed/ X breed is your dog? (you can do one for each dog if multiple amounts)

Springer spaniel and flat coated retriver

Did you purchase or rescue your dog?

Purchase

Why did you want a dog?

Had previously had a rescue dog who sadly passed away - home wasn't quite the same :D

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected?

retriver picked things up quite easily - only issue we had was pulling on the lead
springer hs high play drive so it is easy to keep his attention - did have some issues with him jumping up on furniture/chairs etc to begin with

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons?

Nope

Would you get another of your chosen breed?

yes

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks

wanted a bitch for the retriever - good size for what we wanted and good temp. Springer was a bit of random purchase

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why?

puppy - retriver was part of a litter than had been bred and was being sold as a charity fundraiser - random I know - people were invited to pay for the puppies and all money was donated. Springer was the last one left in a litter that was in the local free ads

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why?

Mini poodle - grotty little dog who had been a lap dog for her whole life - not particulary suited to family life

Is there a bred you would never consider and why?

Probably any of the very large breeds eg great dane etc more due to space constraints than anything else

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog?

No real issues other than the retriever is a very good doer so her weight has to be watched and the springer has been intolerant to some foods so it took a while to get a diet suited to him

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment?

retriever was bred by my dads old boss and we could see parents and grandparents - springer was a random purchase

What breed/ X breed is your dog? (you can do one for each dog if multiple amounts) Both dogs are German Shepherds

Did you purchase or rescue your dog? Honey was rescued direct from owner aged 6 months, Asty was rescued direct from owner aged 4 months.

Why did you want a dog? Loyalty, Companionship, Guard

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected? Honey was very hyper so hard work, 6 months on she is almost normal. Asty we only got yesterday and is not settled in yet but should be very easy as a blank canvas.

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons? Several years ago due to relationship breakup I had to rehome two of my three dogs. Family members took one GSD and a Leonberger. I kept one GSD.

Would you get another of your chosen breed? GSD's every time for me. If I had to choose another it would be a Rottweiller.

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks - Past experience.

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why? Both young dogs as I felt Honey would fit in well with my current elderly GSD and Asty would fit in well with Honey being of similar ages.

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why? No never.

Is there a bred you would never consider and why? I personally do not get on with small breed dogs.

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog? I knew in advance Honey needed extensive lead socialisation. It has been very tough but 6 months old we are making progress.

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisement? N/A

What breed/ X breed is your dog? (you can do one for each dog if multiple amounts) Lab, Springer & Collie

Did you purchase or rescue your dog? Purchase and Given

Why did you want a dog? Never been without

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected? All three easier than expected

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons? No

Would you get another of your chosen breed? Yes another Springer

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks Breeding and sex not too worried about looks

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why? Always a puppy - I like to train them myself

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why? Nope

Is there a bred you would never consider and why? Not keen on small dogs/terriers. Can't see me ever having one until I am about 80 ;)

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog? Severe elbow displaysia (OCD) in Lab. No I didn't think we would have these problems at all. It has been stressful, upsetting and costly. I wouldn't get another lab again and I wish it was law to have elbow scoring done along with hips and eyes!

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment? Breeders known to me so wanted a pup from that particular litter of parentage. Except Rosie where I did see and answer an advert

Stupid thing wouldn't let me post that without adding after the quote!

Two pure greyhounds, one greyhound x whippet

Did you purchase or rescue your dog?
All three are rescues

Why did you want a dog?
I have never ever lived without a dog - I find life without one impossible to contemplate?

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected?
These three have all been easy (well apart from the badly trained one of course :p)

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons?
Yes - when I split with ex-husband, we were meant to take two dogs each but he wouldnt take 'his' two and insisted they were re-homed :mad::mad::mad: B*stard does not even begin to describe it :mad::mad:

Would you get another of your chosen breed?
Ummm yes I do keep collecting them :)

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks
I took whatever the rescue organisation thought was suitable for my lifestyle? When I was looking another one I got Flick (white, small greyhound bitch) when I was actually looking for a large, brindle greyhound/lurcher dog :D

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why?
Adult - I work, there is no way I could cope with a puppy even if I wanted one, which I dont. There are too many gorgeous dogs in rescue to ever justify breeding puppies as far as I am concerned

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why?
Nope - never ever, I love them. Even Talisker, the most challenging rescue I have had, turned out to be my favourite ever dog.

Is there a bred you would never consider and why?
CKCS - too many of the damn things when I was a kid :D Any of the ultra-cultivated breeds (e.g. basset, bulldog, chihuahua) which have inherent breed difficulties

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog?
No problems encountered at all - they chase things, but I knew that already :D

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment?

What breed/ X breed is your dog? (you can do one for each dog if multiple amounts)
Greyhound

Did you purchase or rescue your dog?Rescue

Why did you want a dog?Always wanted one since a child but work prevented it until changed jobs

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected?SLightly harder but is easy dog !

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons? No

Would you get another of your chosen breed?Yes absolutely

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looksTemperament - wanted lurcher/grey/whippet type. Wanted dog who didn't need hours and hours of exercise and wasn't too manic indoors

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why?
Adult. Couldn't give sufficient time to a puppy and wanted to rescue

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why No regrets
[Is there a bred you would never consider and why?
Not really. My thoughts on breeds are driven by those that I actually know. e.g never particularly liked boxers but friends have one and he is a fab dog so would consider this if circs right. Think spaniels would be too manic for me tho ![/COLOR

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog?He has mild separation anxiety which I was expecting but was more difficult to overcome - rescue were great theo. Also he is v nervous dog with people he doesn't know ( not aggresive just backs away of someone we meet out on a walk tries to touch him - especially men). Wasn't expecting this, altho its not an issue.

What breed/ X breed is your dog? (you can do one for each dog if multiple amounts)
Vizsla
Did you purchase or rescue your dog?
Purchase
Why did you want a dog?
She was purchased with the intention of working and showing. SHe also superceded our last vizsla, the house felt very empty without one even though I have 3 other dogs
Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected?
Pretty much as expected although if I had to chose I would say at times she suprises me by being easier than expected.
Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons?
No
Would you get another of your chosen breed?
Yes
What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks
Ultimately conformation, breeding and temprement of parents. We were also only looking at bitches of the one breed.
Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why?
Puppy. You wouldnt find an adult dog to work and show successfully
Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why?
No
Is there a bred you would never consider and why?
Many, lots just wouldnt fit in with my lifestyle etc
If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog?
No
Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment?Through having the lines I wanted/not having lines I didnt! I was specifically looking for a puppy to fill my criteria that was not from the usual breeders but was still responsibly bred

What breed/ X breed is your dog? (you can do one for each dog if multiple amounts)
GSD

Did you purchase or rescue your dog?
Buffy = home bred
Evie - from a breeder friend, but was given her, didn't purchase
Why did you want a dog?
Always had them, cannot imagine living without a dog.

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected?
Buffy, very easy
Evie , slightly challenging but not totally unexpected.

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons?
When I was breeding for show, rehomed one or two that didn't make the grade. Hated doing it which is why I gave up breeding for show.

Would you get another of your chosen breed?
Yes

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks
My mother bred GSDs, have always been my breed of choice. Chose bitches, because I wanted to have a litter (sorry Cayla) to continue my line.

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why?
Puppy, I love the whole puppy rearing/socialising process
Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why?
No
Is there a bred you would never consider and why?
Not a huge fan of giant slobbery breeds, but have fallen for dogs of breeds I previously wouldn't have considered so never say never.

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog?
Buffy has bad hips, parents had low scores but know from experience that it is never foolproof so was always a possibility.

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment?
Evies breeder an old friend who had his first GSD bitch from me, wanted to keep the same lines.

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog?
Had many issues with her, dog aggression, people aggression, being able to get anywhere near her! Yes they were all problems easily invisaged when she came to me.
Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment?
N/A

What breed/ X breed is your dog? (you can do one for each dog if multiple amounts)

Dog is whippetx colliexterrier allegedly, bitch is a 1st cross bedlington whippet

Did you purchase or rescue your dog?
Rescued dog, bought bitch

Why did you want a dog?
Always wanted a dog, waited until I had a place with plenty of land and the time to look after him

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected? Very very easy, just trained from day 1 as he was stuck to me like glue and just so wanted to please. When I then got the bitch as a puppy 8 years later she was easy to train as she copied my otehr dog.

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons? No

Would you get another of your chosen breed?
Yes definitely - an absolute convert to the bedlington x whippet lurcher

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks
Always wanted a lurcher, a fast working dog, rabbit and rat control, an ability to keep up with the horse in a flat out gallop. Phenomenal temprement

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why?

My first dog was a 6 month old rescue, and my next was an 8 week old puppy. I wanted a young dog to train with the horses, and cats. I ended up with a 6 month old who had some serious hangups caused by his idiot original owner. When I looked for a second one i knew exactly what I wanted breed wise and wanted a puppy to train as a blank canvas

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why?

No never!!

Is there a bred you would never consider and why?
Personally I dislike small yappy dogs, would never have a yorkie, a JR or a patterdale
.
If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog?
My old dog has seperation anxiety, and it has been a bit of an issue over the years, as he was tricky to leave with anyone else which made holidays a bit tricky. Now he has just about got over it, he has a select circle of friends that I can now leave him with and he is settled, however that was the reason I actually went for a young puppy when I got my next dog, so i could crate train her from day 1.

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment?

I went to a pest controller who was specifically breeding 1st cross lurchers. I have to travel from devon to Lincoln to collect her.

What breed/ X breed is your dog? (you can do one for each dog if multiple amounts)
Willie: some kind of mix, poss. lab/pointer/spangle/hound, etc. He's 60lbs
Bella: beagle
Dakota: beagle

Did you purchase or rescue your dog?
Rescued all three. Willie from a shelter, the beagles from a breed specific rescue.

Why did you want a dog?
I've always had dogs other than when I was at university and then graduate school. Once I was finished with school and we got a house, we got dogs. It just seemed natural. A house is pretty empty without one.

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected?
Willie was harder; Bella was easier; Dakota was as expected/harder.

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons?
Other than losing custody of a lab in a divorce, no.

Would you get another of your chosen breed?
Yes but I would be open to many other breeds as well.

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks
Breed, temperament, and personality. I've no preference sex-wise.

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why?
We chose young adults because we both work and didn't think a puppy would be easy for us to train, etc.

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why?
No, even though we didn't really plan on getting Dakota.

Is there a bred you would never consider and why?
I'm not a fan of sled dogs or really big dogs because of the practicalities of owning them. Also small fluffy dogs or pugs are just not my type.

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog?
Willie needed some serious boundary setting when we first got him because he was confused and untrained. He also has health issues, including hip dysplasia. We haven't had any issues with Bella. We knew what we were getting with Dakota because we only took him in to foster for a few days because he growled at his first foster home's kids and their dad in the first 24 hours of being there so he needed to get pulled out of there quickly. He was still more than we bargained for because he was very fearful of anyone or anything and we ended up fostering him for 6 months during which we had to do a lot of extremely patient training with him before he could even start to be considered to be rehomed to an experienced adult home. At that point we just decided to keep him rather than set him back again. In one way, he was also less than we bargained for because although he had growled at others, he bonded with both us and our dog walker extremely quickly and is one of the most loyal and affectionate dogs I've ever met.

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment?

What breed/ X breed is your dog? (you can do one for each dog if multiple amounts)

Labrador.

Did you purchase or rescue your dog?

Purchased him.

Why did you want a dog?

Moved to a smallholding & gave up work, wanted the company.

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected?

Easier in many ways, although some things harder & some still work in progress. More fun than I expected (had a few dogs before, but all rescue adults, this is the first puppy).

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons?

Only 1. Got a rescue border collie when we first moved here, but even after 6 months of hard work on training I couldn't stop him chasing livestock (pulling me off my feet or breaking long lines etc) & we live in sheep country. I regretfully had to take him back to the rescue centre we got him from.

Would you get another of your chosen breed?

Yes.

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks

Having researched many breeds following the rescue collie which didn't work out, I wanted something 'easier', without such a high chase/drive instinct. Never really wanted a Lab, but they seemed to be the best fit for our criteria. Sex/looks were less important.

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why?

Puppy. After collie the collie I was heartbroken & couldn't face another possible problem dog. I thought if I got the right breed & personality, & worked hard on the training I could end up with a dog which would fit in with our lifestyle. It's working out well so far.

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why?

Not regretted as such. The collie brought a huge amount of stress to my life & I hated having to take him back, but he also taught me a lot, which I have taken forward & used on the Lab.

Is there a bred you would never consider and why?

I'm not really fond of small 'toy/handbag' types. I also wouldn't knowingly take on anything which would be beyond my level of experience (that's a lot of breeds at the moment but notably the high drive/energy breeds such as husky, dalmation, akita, german shepherd, border collie). Who knows in the future.....

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog?

No major problems. He is very keen to greet people/other dogs, but that's because he loves everyone & wants to play. Training classes has helped with this, but he still gets a bit excited. No medical or aggression problems etc.

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment?

Saw advert. Did research into breeder. Spoke to someone who knew them etc before going to see litter. Parents hip & eye score tested, met the mother, many from this breeder go on to become guide dogs so bred to be level headed.

Right, this would be really helpful to be if people could answer honestly and it does not have to be one word answers, sorry this is possibly the easiest way I can do this, also if anyone wants to PM an answer feel free, this is not a judgemental posts, its actually for course work.

If I get no answers I will cry:(:p

I hope this is helpful & gives a slightly different view than that of the many really experienced dog owners you get on here. This is my first puppy, although we always had dogs growing up & then I had 2 rescues (collie x lurcher & an ex racing greyhound) when I was married, but they were both adults when we got them. This is my step back into owning a dog for nearly 20 years.

What breed/ X breed is your dog? (you can do one for each dog if multiple amounts)
Springer spaniel and Field spaniel

Did you purchase or rescue your dog?
we bought them from a family who didn't want them anymore....

Why did you want a dog?
My family have always had dogs, the house isn't right without them!!

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected?
they actually seem to know the basics but have learnt lots more really easily which suprised me, we were told they were rebels!! Molly will hopefully do field trials soon, and maybe Archie if his legs hold up :D

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons?
yep - I used to have a boxer with my OH. When we split, I lived in London in a flat and worked all day, he was moving out of town and had flexible hours. Was logical that I gave him the dog :(

Would you get another of your chosen breed?
Yep....but I would also consider lots of other breeds or X-breeds

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks
We initially looked for a lab and a spaniel but these two spaniels were perfect when we met them - it was meant to be!!

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why?
We only looked for adult dogs, we don't have the time to manage the demands of puppies....and given what we're achieving so far it is nice to know you don't need to own from a puppy, you just need the right training and partnership :)

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why?
Nope, never

Is there a bred you would never consider and why?
I am not overly keen on GSD's or Rottweilers, and would not have a toy breed....I would also not consider a long/coarse haired dog.

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog?
Archie has just had to have two pins in his front legs due to a hereditary condition that Springers are apparently prone too. I didn't know about this when we got them (though still would have even if I had)

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment?
Doesn't really apply (though when we met them and found that the family kept them on a 10x15ft patio and wondered why they were difficult we couldn't wait to get them out of there!!)

:):)

What breed/ X breed is your dog? (you can do one for each dog if multiple amounts)
Border Collie x Springer Spaniel

Did you purchase or rescue your dog?
I bought him

Why did you want a dog?
Have always had dogs it's ingrained :)

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected?
I thought that with his breeding he would be very trainable but he's very slow to pick things up

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons?
No, unless you count returning two rescue dogs to the RSPCA - They were not good with kids or small animals (got into guineapig hutch and killed both guineapigs) even though RSPCA said they were

Would you get another of your chosen breed?
I'm not sure, I've seen a lot of these crosses about and most are loopy whereas Jake is laid back and acts like a little old man even though he's 2

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks
I wanted a boy and he had to be either a Border Collie or a Springer Spaniel :D

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why?
Puppy as I wanted to be the first and only person to train/own him after his breeders (got him at 7 weeks old) and had given up on finding a suitable rescue

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why?
Never regretted Jake or his breeding. Occassionaly (sp?) I wonder why I got the terrier but every now and then she does something sweet or goofy :D

Is there a bred you would never consider and why?
Anything from the toy variety/anything small enough to fit through the cat flap and the majority of terriers. I'd fall over the small dogs and terriers are too energetic/demanding (my other dog is a terrier:rolleyes: )

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog?
He's obsessed with moving light/shadows and is sensitive to most dog food which I didn't expect

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment?
Saw an advert for Springer Spaniel pups just down the road from me, phoned breeder who said they also had Spaniel x pups

:D:D:D

Okay have 3 doglets so will do one for each so sorry for length!!!

Mac (11yrs)

Black Labrador (Show Type)

He was first family dog. Wanted to have family walks, learn responsibility etc.!

He was about what we expected, though had a lot of trouble with toilet training and he has 'selective hearing' shall we say!!! :P

No

Would consider but after 2 hip replacements would approach with caution

He was one of the last 2. Both boys, chocolate and black. Dad wanted a black one!

Puppy - the gorgeous school dog was having puppies. Seemed like the perfect situation as we knew the bitch so well

He is the sweetest dog ever, even with his hip problems we wouldn't trade him for the world.

A few breeds. Husky or a Mal, purely because they need such different care and I know I wouldn't be able to give it what it needed. Saying that our next dog will be a Samoyed, but we have researched like crazy and met a few. A few years yet though!!! I also wouldn't consider a fighting breed. Have always stuck to gun dogs and the Samoyed is going to be a bit of a leap into the unknown!

Severe hip dysplasia (he had no hip joint in one hip!) Both parents were hip scored. A risk we knew about when looking into buying the breed.

School dog

------------------------------------------------------
Ronnie (8yrs)

Golden Retriever (Show Type)

Purchased

He was mainly because Mac was lonely, but also because we wanted another dog :D

Easier. He is the most amazing dog you'll ever meet. He looked after me while I was bedridden :')

No

Mostly likely no, purely because no one could ever compare to him. He's a one in a million dog :')

My neighbour was having a litter and once again we knew mum really well and was able to go down every day to look after them from birth. Perfect situation really. My mum had a Goldie when she was younger though and the breed has always had a part in our family.

Puppy - as above. Love the whole life span, watching them grow and thrive, so have always looked to puppies. My sister had a bad experience with rescue dogs so cautious. Though have met some gorgeous ones and looked after my grandparents rescue terrier often.

No, he's perfect! :D

He has peripheral neuropathy and idiopathic epilepsy. Were not problems we were really prepared for but i will always care for him : )

Neighbour

------------------------------------------------
Pixel (4months)

English Cocker Spaniel (Blue Roan - Show Type)

Purchase

She is my first dog, as occurred to family's and my boyfriend purchased her for me to complete our little family :D

Much harder, we discovered she was only partially sighted a month ago :(

Yes i think so. I have always adored cockers!

Just always loved them! Thought a bitch would be less trouble for older lads. They prefer the ladies!!!

Puppy - as above

Not regretted, but after she had her whiskers chopped off and turned out to only be able to see lights and shadows, wondered if the breeder was the right choice. Once again would never trade her :D she's very special :)

Bilateral Micropthalmia and Optic Nerve Hypoplasia making her partially sighted :( we were careful to find a breeder which fully tested the parents eyes so it was a bit of a shock.

Off the kennel club website.

Hope that helped you! Oops! Bit long!

What breed/ X breed is your dog? (you can do one for each dog if multiple amounts) parson russell terrier

Did you purchase or rescue your dog? purchase

Why did you want a dog? companionship

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected? bit of both. recall/sit/stay very easy. walking on lead still an issue

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons? no

Would you get another of your chosen breed? not whilst i have M. if i lost him then maybe, depending on my circumstances at the time & my ability to provide the amount of exercise needed

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks looks & breed character

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why? puppy, because i had the time to devote to training etc

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why? yes, when he was about 6 months old and never seemed to sleep. ever.

Is there a bred you would never consider and why? too many to list. either i dont like their looks and/or or their type wouldnt fit in with my lifestyle

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog? stubbornness - expected. mouthing/nipping - expected. separation anxiety - not expected

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment? my own research, recommendations and visits to breeder

What breed/ X breed is your dog? (you can do one for each dog if multiple amounts)

Siberian husky (or at least probably/a great deal of)

Did you purchase or rescue your dog?

Purchased, £100, private rehome

Why did you want a dog?

As a companion, for enforced exercise and because our family has always had one around, I generally just like dogs! I also get the warm fuzzies from training, it's a very fulfilling pasttime.

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected?

About a million times harder than I ever expected despite doing some research.

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons?

No, unless you count the young lab bitch we had when I was a tiny wee toddler - we puppywalked her for the armed forces.

Would you get another of your chosen breed?

Only if I had a significant change in personal circumstances which would allow me to build suitable outdoor housing, easier acccess to rally sites, be able to afford a rig etc. Would love one now but it wouldn't be practical. Definitely a second dog of a different breed in the works.

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks

OH would only let me have a dog if it subscribed to his arbitrary standards, including 'looking cool', I was prepared to put the work in to deal with such a dog if it meant I could have one.

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why?

Adult dog - hate the puppy stage, very cute but you can't do anything useful with them for about the first year.

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why?

Oh god, yes - in the first few days I found myself with my hand on the phone ready to ring the guy and take her back. On more than one occasion. :o Very glad I didn't now. See 'problems' below!

Is there a bred you would never consider and why?

Nothing with a smushy snout, nothing with very short legs, nothing with a very long coat. No skinnydogs (*ducks*) and no terriers.

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog?

Crippling separation anxiety - well known in the breed but I had no idea how bad it could be, could not be left alone at all for many months, extremely destructive behaviour and incontinence even if just left in a different room. Pulling on the lead was easily solved, poor early socialisation resulting in lunging excitedly at other dogs fairly easily solved with time. Expected most of it except for the worst of the SA.

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment?

Had been turned down by Dogs' Trust and two local rescues as no real garden to speak of, saw ad in local paper, called up and was directed to a Preloved advert with pictures. Saw the scrawny wolfydog face and that was that...

What breed/ X breed is your dog? (you can do one for each dog if multiple amounts)
Lurcher of some kind. Very like a pure grey though so maybe grey x whippet or 3/4 greyhound?

Did you purchase or rescue your dog?
Rescue

Why did you want a dog?
Always wanted one from when I was tiny. I got one whenever I was in the position to offer one a good home.

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected?
Much easier. I expected far more issues with recall.

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons?
No

Would you get another of your chosen breed?
Already planning it.:D

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks
Breed rescue matched me to the dog.

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why?
Adult. Not many greyhound puppies in rescue centres.

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why?
Never. Not even when he ate the Christmas turkey.

Is there a bred you would never consider and why?
Toy dogs. They just don't do it for me.

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog?
He is a terrible thief food wise. I also had a few issues with separation anxiety when I first got him. I had done lots of greyhound homework before I got him so kind of expected both.

Wouldn't let me post without writing something at the end.

What breed/ X breed is your dog? (you can do one for each dog if multiple amounts)
Border terrier X Poodle

Did you purchase or rescue your dog?
I rescued him

Why did you want a dog?
Always dog mad as a kid, missed my family pets.

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected?
Much easier than expected, I think I was very lucky.

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons?
Yes, as a child we had a rescue that turned out to be aggressive, we had small children in the house so it was an accident waiting to happen.

Would you get another of your chosen breed?
No, I assume he came from a dodgy breeder who decided it was a great idea to mix the two, he has no paper work and no serious breeding history.
My family has Briards, I would get another any day if I had the money.

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks
I felt very sorry for the situation he was in, he clearly needed a home, and I had been looking for a dog for a while.

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why?
No choice, was given a puppy!

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why?
No, he has been a little saint.

Is there a bred you would never consider and why?
I don't like miniature breeds - just personal taste.

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog?
No problems.

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment? I rescued mine, but my family drive to Wales to buy Briards from an official breeder who is big in showing and well known for very good dogs.

What breed/ X breed is your dog? Generic terrier. Mother was a Jack Russel X Cairn and father was probably the spotty long legged brute down the road!

Did you purchase or rescue your dog? Neither. Grandmothers 12 year old dog hadn't been in season for years...and suddenly popped out two pups! :o We were coming home from abroad and so nabbed a free pup. :)

Why did you want a dog? Mother had always grown up surrounded by dogs, and I had also known my grandparents dogs, and wanted one of my own, you know, like 11 year olds do.

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected? Easier. Although being a dull 11 year old I had read just about every dog training and behavior book in the world and managed to do a reasonably job with an odd mismatch of clicker training, cesar milan styley and "normal". Never had any formal help or training and yet she is a well mannered and obedient dog.

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons? Yes, had to rehome our pomeranian to the gardener when we had to move to a flat, in Sri Lanka.

Would you get another of your chosen breed? Yes. Muttley terriers are the best.

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks Always known terriers, but it was more a case of taking what I was given!

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why? Puppy, because it was there. And I guess, as a kid I wanted a cute wee puppy.

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why? Nope. :)

Is there a bred you would never consider and why? Anything over spaniel size. I can't be doing with big dogs, not sure why. Never really known any until recently and I just dont like them.

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog? She can be nervous around strange dogs and doesn't make friends easily, a bit like myself really! Didn't cross my mind really, as all dogs I'd known where happy and friendly. She's not aggressive to them and its not really a problem, living where we do.

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment? Grandmother plying me with pups again...!
