Deciding on the type of horse you want ias fine but then wanting it to be a dun? It's a bit like looking for acertain car but turning down many that are suitable but are not the right colour certainly limits the field you are looking in. A long time ago we were looking for a particular type of horse with a certain abiity. We found it, he rode really well, had a nice natural jump, was fantastic. The only thing negative was the fact that he was grey. We knew we would be doing a lot of grooming to try & keep him clean but in the end it didn't matter, he was schooled & became a lovely jumper, could do good quality dressaghe tests & he could cross country. His ability far out weighed his colour. He is still a wonderful horse & he still roles in the mud & is a nightmare to keep clean. Would we change him.....no.

When you go to view take a friend with you, preferably one who can give you an independant view about the horse & keep your feet on the ground. The friend should be able to keep you grounded and help you come to the right decision. Allways best to have an extra pair of eyes that may help you confirm or deny your idea as to buying or not.

Friend has just sold the horse you’re looking for. £16k - worth that even if it wasn’t dun, cracking horse. As others have said there’s a premium on those colours.

I was told by old horsemen that you never got a bad dun I presume it meant buckskin too. My angel pony is a buckskin Welsh mare so according to this thread should be the devil incarnate she never puts a hoof wrong. Jumps is a true fyfr doesn't run off drives and will stand for as much fuss as the kids give out. She even makes sure they don't fall off be rebalanced them if she can

Does it have to be dun or would you be open to a buckskin? I've got a (still growing!) 16.2hh 5yr old buckskin gelding by who's by Crowns Ace of Pearl.

He has a temperament second to none! I've had him since a yearling & he's been so easy. If you can find something by Ace he's known to pass down his lovely chilled attitude.
