So, my little man Harry, is very poorly. We have been battling a suspected sinus infection for the last seven days, slight improvement. Appetite amazing throughout (eating his two buddies breakfasts as well when he could!), temperature has remained in normal ranges everyday.
This morning I found my precious wee chap stood with his nose on the floor, elevated breathing, sweating (although it was a barmy 17 degrees overnight), glancing at his tummy and raising his back legs to his tummy.
Emergency call to the vet who came promptly, against the odds injected him with pain relief and anti spasmodics and managed to get a nasal tube into him and got a good amoint of water and epsom salts into him.
Vet examind his teeth (different vet this time), can't see anything on the surface that is alarming, so doesnt immediately suspect his teeth (but obviously cant be certain), pus pouring out of his nose after i took him for a wee walk (where he jogged and shouted for his buddies).
So, we await poop and he's very mad that he has been told by the vet no food for 24hrs (hes a foodie), his two buddies that he shares a stable with are currently free range in the barn (causing mischief already i suspect and i suspect my ifor that is parked in the barn will be licked thoroughly (they are strange and lick anything new to them!).
Meet Harry, the gentlest soul you will ever meet, he has been my companion for the last 13 years and if a horse could own a human's heart, he has mine. He has undiagnosed cushings (vets have agreed lets not put him through the trauma of needles until absolutely necessary) and he has been doing brilliantly on cushcare and agnus castus on top.
He is frightened of men and will lead even my gentle husband on a wild goosechase on occasion if he doesnt want to be caught. I turn up and shout "Harry, mummy's here" and he comes running and shouting. I sit on the floor with him often chatting and singing gently to him until he starts to get a glazed over look to say "enough mummy". He will stand just breathing against my cheeks if im sat down for hours while he snoozes. If hes really frightened he will shut his eyes and bury his head in me.
He's approximately 30 years of age, so I know we are on borrowed time but if i could just get to spend a little bit more time with him I would be so grateful. My heart feels like there is a crack right down the middle that is getting wider as i type and am imagining my life without my tiny 32inches tall buddy.
If he makes it through 24hours, the vet hospital will be doing xrays to find out the cause of his sinus issue.
Please could I ask if you can spare just a monent thought to offer him a prayer, then please do so. We have had a horrifc 2020 already and I hope that this will just be a bump in the road and we can fix him.
Thank you everyone. x
