Oh my, he is soooooo cute!
Sending sweet Harry many healing bubbles throughout the day and night...and strength and courage for you too, he can heal and can overcome this hiccup...let’s collectively imagine the BEST health restored outcome.

You have lots of support here ob4h, know that and freely reach out! I too know ‘foreign country’ strangeness effects, but you’re not alone, and have reservoirs of strength and courage, even if at times it feels there’s not a drop left!
Team HHO are never far away! ?☀️

Thanks everyone, it really is so much appreciated.

I feel so very honoured to have him in my life. He came to me by accident 13 years ago when I was living in Northern Ireland, I was on my way to see a companion pony and something caught my eye at the back of a barn at the side of the road, on the outskirts of Londonderry.

I ditched the car and jumped over the fence to find the scruffiest, muddiest (couldn’t see what colour he was), tiny pony tethered to a post by his hind leg, he’d rated a circle around himself so being the ingenious little man he is, he was doing stretches with one leg stretched out while he stretched for more. The rope that was around his fetlock had cut through his skin and it was weeping and infected . I was met by a very p*ssed off farmer with a gun sling over his arm and his dogs, demanding to know what some English woman was doing on his land.

I nearly pooped myself he was hay aggressive but stood my ground and told him I was going to ring the authorities and report him or he could go and get me a rope and any papers he had for the pony I would give the money I had with me(I think it was about £250). He marched off with me thinking oh my god he’s likely gone to get some ammunition he was that p*ssed off.

He care back with a piece of twine, a passport, snatched the money and cut the rope tethering him.

I was shaking as me and this filthy tiny pony as we squeezed through a gap in the fence and stood at the side of the road wondering who the hell to call as I was there with just my car.

fortunately, someone at my previous yard came out with their trailer, gently cursing the silly English woman who didn’t know what she’d bought and when she arrived she said I’d have to buy her a shed load of virkon s to disinfect her trailer once she’d seen what I had hold of.

I crouched in the back of the trailer with him burying his head in me back to the little private yard I had a space at and the rest is history. Harry has been by my side ever since, he’s seen me through so many awful times, my fiancé in Ireland walking out two weeks before our wedding. Harry moved back to England with me and my other big horse, I rented a field and slept in a tent in their field as I had no where to live and little money.
I found a job and somewhere temporarily to live and then I met who is now my wonderful husband. Who immediately saw something good in all of us and took us all on, renting a beautiful farm for us to call home until we could afford somewhere of our own.

I used to think that I’d saved Harry but the truth of it is that he saved me, he’s brought me so much joy over the years, he never fails to be so excited when he sees me (despite feeling poorly now he shouts hello when I go in to check if there’s any poops - still no poops ?).

Harry, you are my best little friend and you are made of the stuff that the little girl inside us all dreams about in having their dream pony.

Thanks everyone again for their kind wishes. x

Folks......we have poo!!!! ive never been so thrilled to see poo in all my life. went into the barn and got the biggest whinny hes ever done and was met with a normal sized pile of poo! Theres slobber in his water bucket too, so hes had a drink.

Obviously, I know this is not all sorted but could anyone please help with telling me (as the only other horse we lost to colic just never pood at all). His poos hes just done are dry and firm, a couple mucus covered.

Would you imagine now that he will poo further and that I should see progressively wetter poos (his stomach is more distended as usual and I imagine this is due to the quantity of liquids put in).

I did give him a second bucket of water with a drop of ribena in to encourage him incase he didnt fancy plain water (i was grasping at straws as dont usually give him anything sugary) however, hes chose the plain water.

Sorry for all the questions, I've never got past the not pooing stage before.

apple juice ? water, when he can eat soaked might help hay dunno really but sure poo is a good sign

im hoping so, just went out and another poo, same consistency so still very firm but I’m thinking now things are flowing, they should in theory continue (I don’t know enough about if partial blockages can be an issue) So hard to explain to him why everyone else is having a haynet but just managed to trick him into thinking he was having something to eat. Just realised I hadn’t rinsed the feed buckets from this morning, so filled one up with a few inches of warm water and whilst it was empty it must have smelt like feed as he’s just slurped the lot of it like it was dinner ?.

I just want to say thank you to everyone. I probably sounds like a neurotic woman but this has been seven hours waiting for poo and sitting here alone thinking the worst.

I am hoping he is now on the mend and we can get home well and to the vets hospital for his x ray to find out what is going on in his sinuses.

Hubby phoned and said when he was saying bye to the vet, he said it is not often that he sees a 30 year old pony and we are obviously taking such good care of him for him to look as good as he does. Such a lovely comment. x

Nothing so exhausting as colic-watch. Bit late to the table but sounds like he is through the worst. Why test for Cushing's? Just have a stab in the dark and get some Prascend down him. It's not magic but can delay laminitis - a real threat to small natives (or bigger anythings, really) as the PPID disrupts the normal hormonal activity. ACTH levels are having their seasonal return to lower levels now, but it's worth a thought.

He sounds so very dearly loved and worth every bit of that dedication. Get well and stay well Harry xxx

How is he now?

He is much improved. We have had two more poops and the last one is noticeably wetter. He has gut sounds again and seems bright in himself, more water drunk also. His best buddy is a bit stressed being outside the stable, free range in the barn with his other buddy and has sweated up but they can stand and talk to each other over the door so I’m sure they’ll all be fine. Thanks x

Harry is gorgeous and he's lucky to have such a good mother! I'm so bloody relieved that he's pooing again ! I lost my first horse to colic , was told then that pooing when actively colicing just means the blockage is higher up in the intestine , but if pooing much much later , this can indicate that the blockage is shifting. Sounds like this might be the case for Harry. Im still keeping everything crossed for you both and will be checking in to see if there's any updates.
Keep fighting Harry !!

thank you so much, this is really helpful to know. He is definitely brighter. It is such a worry as we lost my husbands mare to colic in 2017, so thankfully we are a bit obsessive over any signs and it looks like hopefully we caught it early enough. x
