Scotland holiday......

So we had a quick trip to the local feed store - thankfully my good friend (who is an ex-HHOer) works there so I had memorised the name! - and Ace stood in the street in Castle Douglas while I bandaged his leg in a crepe bandage then some vet wrap to hold it in place ? He was SO good, he didn’t move a muscle bless him!

Then we went to the beach - not the one recommended, a more local one as we were a bit short of time after sorting Ace out! No opportunities to let the dogs off, but it was still beautiful of course - well, this is Scotland after all!

Colin puppy is being incredibly well behaved and wonderful, but he is finding it very tiring.... George is his usual adorable Squee self ❤️❤️❤️

I think I am in heaven now, it really is everything I’d hoped for!

Oh - Ace leg update - I’ve taken off the bandage to let it breathe and he has hardly bled at all, ironic when he was dripping all over the lodge ? I think 5 is quite normal at the lodges I am staying at - the two owners have 6 and 7 rescues respectively - but I did get a few funny looks at the beach today ? Mentally I separate them into ‘the terriers’ and ‘the hounds’ to manage them, but it was a bit chaotic initially at the beach - after a few minutes they had all settled down to ‘normal’ dog walking positions and it was fine!

It’s funny, even typing this has made me realise how much I mentally segregate them - I don’t have 5 dogs, I have 3 + 2 dogs! They have such different needs. They are all being totally amazing mind you ???

I nearly came home from my walk with an extra terrier (again) today :rolleyes: I must attract them. OH would not have been best pleased about it! Luckily (I think?) he scampered back off to the big house on the estate we walk through, straight through their garden fence, so I had to assume that's where he came from.

OMG (tongue in cheek of course!!!) - you think any newcomer could replace the great and amazing GEORGE??!!!!!

He disappeared in the enclosed 18 acre wood for about 15 minutes today, I was getting quite worried that he had got stuck somewhere when he strolled up with that insouciant ‘oh - were you looking for me??’ approach!!!!!

Bloody terriers, he knows I adore him and he exploits it to the full!!!!
 
I'm a tiny bit jealous about the beautiful scenery you get to wander around in. But poor Ace, what a rotten timing, to go, and get a cut, just when the holiday had barely begun. Hope he heals quickly, and uneventfully {{{{{{vibes}}}}}}.

Besides that, your dogs seems to be enjoying themselves royaly.
 
I would agree with you FL - Millie lurcher cut herself on her stopper pad yesterday and Ace cut himself above the hind stopper pad today - but neither has been remotely lame on it! Of course I am well aware of the effects of adrenaline etc so I am monitoring both dogs very closely, but they don’t seem one whit disturbed!!!

I will continue to monitor, bathe with salt water, cover and protect or vet as required ❤️

Oh bless you - I can confirm she really isn’t the slightest bit bothered, she has made my life very easy by stopping bleeding almost immediately, she isn’t lame or bothering with it in the least and she had a fabulous time dashing round the woods today! Of course I always keep an eye on the wounds several times a day minimum, but Millie has been indifferent from moment one (as is her habit!) so once I knew it was clean and safe I let her get on with it

Ace is much the same in a bigger more mature sort of way, I’m glad I put a dressing on his wound to stop it bleeding but I really didn’t think it would be a problem as a sighthound owner ? He isn’t remotely lame on that leg even after running around, so back to the physio after our holiday to find out what on Earth IS going OJ since the vets can’t tell me ?
 
The joys of a white back. We got our first JRT when I was competing a lot and deliberately got one without a white back as we reckoned he might be prone to diving under lorries at shows and getting an oily dirty back. This was back in the days when people were much more relaxed about dogs on show grounds, one year at the Royal Highland John Whittaker had a tiny JRT puppy that used to turn up at our lorry for breakfast each morning!

I’m so jealous - did he come and collect the puppy in person? He is one of my top three riders ever....?

It tended to wander about a bit, I did return it a few times at several shows. JW used to carry it round in his hat until it had an *accident* one day! As a teenager, I was delighted the first time I was in a prize-giving line up next to him and my mum took a photo - I was devastated when the film was developed (it was in the 80's) and she had her finger over the view finder obscuring part of the picture!
