I can sort of forgive Holland Cooper and Fairfax & Favor, as I suspect they’re more in the “country WAG attire” business, as opposed to pretending to be strictly equestrian. What I can’t forgive are the likes of PS of Sweden (who do a decent bridle) following the Kardashianesque fad, especially the claw-like nails, the weird putty lips, the bulbous bottom, the colossal coiffure etc ?

I attach the evidence..

Aw she’s got a nice toned bum.
To me I think she looks like a fit looking 50yo that’s had a lot of work done. Much the type that buy the spendy tight fashionable horsey attire? I think these are good!

I don’t like the over provocative, vacant, young, obviously photoshopped ones.

I think the below F&F one sparked a social media trolling avalanche a while back, re appropriate mucking out attire ?

Right - I can explain.

She’s popped out for lunch and she’s thinking “ooo I look nice” so thought she’d grab a quick pic with her number 1.

I remember this pic and didn’t like how she’s obviously gorgeous and she’s been quite dramatically shopped especially on her face ?

Do you find them worth the money? I’ve got a substantial sum (well it needs to be having looked at the prices!) in a voucher for Christmas and was quite disappointed. Such a lot of money for fashion boots (I’m not into fashio)when I love my Ariat‘s or bareback equestrian that I can go to shops, days out, walk the dogs, ride and do jobs in, last well and keep my feet warm -multifunctional, so to me worth the money. Can’t bring myself to order any just yet!

I wear my explorers like that - yard, walks, etc. They aren’t great to ride in but they are fine for messing around. They are waterproof too which is helpful, and they don’t slip.

I actually wear my reginas and amiras to work. It’s probably not the most conventional corporate shoe choice but I wear them with skinnies, a shirt or blouse and a jacket and I’m convinced I’m getting away with it. And then I don’t have to change shoes when I do morning and evening horse checks.

Black Heart Equestrian? The girl who owns it (long dark hair) is always sat rather moon shaped on her horse, unsure if she naturally looks that way or it's as forced as it looks.. Very good rider though so musn't be like it all the time

I own a lot of black heart stuff and I really rate it... however I’ve never actually looked at the ads!

I think they are pretty good with returns if it’s an F&F voucher?

One of my explorers had a slight issue with the sole after about a year and I sent them back to be mended but F&F actually sent me a brand new pair of boots, no questions asked. I had thought they would just dab some glue on it ?

I believe the black heart model/owner used to be a miss England or something like that

Makes sense. I’ve come across some of her YouTube videos too when I’ve been mindlessly browsing and I can’t sleep, comes across about as genuine as her marketing does ?

Yes I really don't like Blackheart YouTube videos. In my opinion she comes across trying hard to be sexy with her voice, poses and outfits. She did a video once addressing this and got really defensive. Don't get me wrong I'm totally against trolling, but I'd much rather my daughter watched the like of Esme who seems so much more genuine and wholesome.

I think she looks pretty good but is no way 50 years old

OK Ive just had a peek at the YouTube videos mentioned. Feel pretty rubbish now as I had no idea it was a one man band and its her own company. In my ignorance, I thought Erin was a model for a big company. She can certainly ride, and her clothes look nice (tho not for my figure sadly), but I'm just not sure if all comes across in the right way. There are clearly many others who have the same opinion as me. So my opinion, as a fourty something, is stop the hair flicky thing and tie it back (it's not a timotei advert), tuck in your bum as we want to see the clothes not a bottom, and ignore grumpy old wotnots like me who would kill for a figure like that ?.

Just looked on the Holland cooper site and they have white puffa coats I dare anyone to wear one at the stables!!

It all looks a bit gawdy to me I know my friends 14 year old daughter likes it, I don't know anyone who wears it though.

It reminds me of racing car driving clothes of yonder year, with cigarette brands emblazoned across everything.

OK now I'm sure I'm about to show my age here, but I'm going to ask anyway.
What is it with certain riding clothing adverts where the models are head to toe in skin tight lycra and stick their bum and boobs out??

Ha! This is what most of my male friends imagine horsey women to be like! I never correct them although the one's that have visited the yard I keep my horse at do seem to be slightly disappointed by the crud encrusted women there! As a male rider I rarely see clothing for me being modelled at all, and when I do it seems to be by quite pretty, feminine-looking men - although I appreciate that there's nothing wrong with that in a woke sense. However, it would be good if riding clothes manufacturers did include a few normal looking blokes occasionally (even if they're only a small fraction of their customer base) as it may encourage a few more men to consider riding as a sport/hobby. I think overall a more sporty approach to marketing, rather than a fashion approach would be preferable.

My husband has made the exact same comment many times!

I would agree that these adverts are being pushed towards a certain demographic of young women/teenagers. I think people are entitled to wear whatever makes them feel happy and comfortable in themselves, but like with any aspect of the fashion/beauty industry, there's a danger that young, insecure girls will feel pressured to look a certain way because of these ADs, and that could be very damaging to their mental health, because not everyone naturally has the figure or face to look at way (and like many have pointed out, photoshop/airbrushing/surgery!)

I'm in my 20s and slim, but I personally don't wear makeup and feel most feminine wearing natural fabrics like cottons and linens with a looser fit. In terms of equestrian clothing, I don't feel that the current trend really fits my personality, so I just wear simple beige jods with (at this time of year) lovely knitted jumpers and an old wax jacket I found in a charity shop :)

Holland Cooper use very very slim models. There have been negative comments on their social media pages about it.

I completely agree and applaud her for starting and running a successful business. She’s also young and I think it’s a feat within itself. But it just proves sex does sell. As I said it irks me so I don’t follow her and leave it at that. Most people quickly realise once they get into riding that horses really could give two ? about how sexy you are ?

My OH rides and does Ironman/triathlon . He has previously pointed out that the men in the swimming/running/cycling advertisements can manage to look perfectly manly and athletic in their skin tight lycra onesies , whilst the ads aimed at male equestrians often look less mmm …. ' sporty ' shall we say . I think many equestrian brands miss a trick with their male customers by not marketing their products in a more ' sports wear ' style .
I guess it depends on who you're trying to sell your product to though , doesn't it ? For me , when I look at Fairfax and Favor , Holland Cooper etc type ads I see the clothes as high end/luxury ' going somewhere nice ' clothes ( although I do have a pair of FF Imperial Explorers which I wear for horses/dogs/walking and they are the best boots EVER ! ) . I wouldn't dream of wearing most of those clothes anywhere near a horse . They're selling a fantasy , not practical riding equipment . Not only do most of us not look like those models , but most of us don't own those sort of horses either . If you've got the money to indulge the fantasy then good for you . Those of us who actually have to get dirty on a regular basis soon get to know where to spend our money wisely , and save the good stuff for off yard activities .
